INTRODUCTION

As we know Business Information System project is the best

example of teamwork. By doing this project, we have learned how to

cooperate with each other and we take any responsibility all together.

Interrelated components that manage information to support decision

making and control. In the other hand, it will help with analysis,

visualization, and product creation. In this assignment, we will

introduce about the latest IT gadget,we choose Playstation 4 as an

example. After that, we choose ‘K’ Line company for example of one of

the maritime industry company.

TASK 1 : LATEST IT GADGET

 SONY PLAYSTATION 4

MGT 2303 Page 9

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

During a press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo

(E3), Sony finally debuted the PlayStation 4, the latest version of

its popular console. Sony announced the device during a press event in

late February. The company began developing the PS4 shortly after it

released the PlayStation 3 in 2006. While we learned a bit about the

fourth-generation console in February, Sony didn't reveal it at the

time. The PS4 has an X86 processor, enhanced PC GPU and 8GB of high-

speed unified memory. It also includes a dual-shock controller that

includes a touchpad, headphone jack and share button. The share button

is particularly interesting. The PS4 has dedicated, always-on video

compression, allowing you to share gameplay clips with friends on the

fly. Using the button, you can also let friends watch you play a game

remotely, or have a them virtually take over the controller to help

you finish a level. A new Remote Play feature also lets you play your

PS4 games on the PlayStation Vita. Much like in the Wii U, Remote Play

allows you to simultaneously watch television, while playing a game on

Vita. Earlier this month, Sony posted a video that showed blurry

footage of the console. It marked the first time we were able to see

something other than the system's controller.

TASK 2 : BIS A SUMMARY

MGT 2303 Page 10

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Information system according to our team member's words is a

combination of work practices, technology tools, people's

information and technologies information that organize together

to achieve certain goals in subjective ways. In other words,

Information System is a professional and educational discipline

that provides help towards a particular business entity or

organizations to create a better way of producing some

achievements. The reasons why an organization needs the help of

information system are, firstly, to implement current advance

technologies into the process of building new operational system.

Secondly, to produce a more sufficient services. Thirdly, to

achieve diversity ideas in producing a better target goals. The

most important reason is, it helps in decision making for a

particular work.In a nutshell, it is apparently imposibble for

the management of an organization to make effective decision

making without the aid of an information system.

MGT 2303 Page 11

TASK 3 : IMPORTANT OF SOFT SKILL IN IT

Why soft skill is related to information system soft skills like

teamwork, interpersonal communication, presentation delivery, and

others are hardly covered. Soft skills to be equally important, search

for professional Information Systems employees possessing both sets

of skills . Soft skills are not sufficiently addressed, and even if

they are, it is not necessarily in the context of software

development projects.

Drive/Work Ethic

This is a difficult skill to quantify, but employees will typically

either display a strong work ethic and the drive to complete tasks, or

they won't. While a work ethic is largely an innate skill, it can be

learned with proper training and motivation. Some employees may be

able to develop a stronger work ethic with incentive based pay or

monetary rewards such as bonuses if they reach a certain goal.

Teamwork

The ability to work well within a team is another important soft

skill. Some employees may naturally feel comfortable working within a

group, while others may have problems and prefer to work alone. It is

necessary to spot these personality types ahead of time for proper

group formation. Every team should have a diverse set of personalities

MGT 2303 Page 12

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

that mesh together as a cohesive whole. Team building exercises can be

very beneficial in helping employees develop this skill.

Decision Making and Problem Solving

Being able to make quick decisions, think on their feet, and solve

simple problems are important employee traits. Even simple problems

such as a copier being out of toner can grind an office to a halt if

no one displays these simple skills. At least one employee needs to

have the ability to take charge of a situation and guide the others

through if they have difficulty. The employees who display these

decision making skills are often excellent candidates for promotion to

management level.

TASK 4 : INFORMATION SYSTEM AND REVOLUTION

TRANFORMATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY

MGT 2303 Page 14

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The concept of mobile phones or cellular phones as they are also

known, was born in the late 1940s, in the United Kingdom and the

U.S.A. Researchers studied, the then current police mobile (radio) car

phones, and worked out that by limiting the range or 'service area' of

transmitters, they could re-use the same radio frequencies over and

over again. This allowed them to theorise the possibility that with

this technology, many users would be able to share the same network.

They were unable to put a production system together to prove this

theory, as there simply wasn't the computer technology available at

that time.

It wasn't until 1971 that ATT and Bell Labs proposed the first

commercial cellular, mobile phone network. The long delay was not just

to do with technological limitations of the time, it was for the most

part due to the American FCC limiting the spectrum of radio

frequencies made available for mobile communications. The proposal was

for a cellular network, which was to consist of many small broadcast

towers, covering a small area (termed a 'cell'), a couple of miles in

radius. As the mobile phone user moved across this network, his or her

MGT 2303 Page 15

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

call would be automatically passed on from tower to tower. It took the

FCC until 1982 to approve this proposal.

Interestingly enough it wasn't the USA that launched the world's first

commercial cellular network service. The first was by NTT of Japan, in

1979. The first fully automatic, first generation cellular network

(known as 1G), was developed by Nordic Mobile Telephone in 1981. 1G

was still based on analog radio signals. Second generation (2G)

digital cellular networks arrived in 1991. High speed, third

generation (3G) cellular networks became a reality when the Japanese

company NTT DoCoMo rolled out it's commercial WCDMA network.

Mobile phones are not the bricks that they were a few decades ago.

Today's mobile phones are small enough to slip in to your pocket but

also powerful enough to surf the internet, send emails and even make

video calls. There are many different mobile phone manufacturers.

TASK 5 : ORGANIZATION STRATEGY OF MARITIME INDUSTRY

MGT 2303 Page 17

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The department is responsible for the enhancement of the Authority’s

organizational effectiveness through the setting up of appropriate

corporate strategies and developing attractive business modules which

are intended to drive revenue growth, achieve program excellence,

establish a national maritime infrastructure of Maritime Authority

Brand Awareness.

‘K’ Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha) which was founded in 1919, has been a

feature at Peninsular Malaysian ports since 1960s with regular vessel

calls.

At that time, the overall ‘K’ Line operations was carried out through

an agency network level whereby the agency house was appointed to look

after ‘K’ Line business in the region.

As ‘K’ Line’s business grew over the years in tandem with the strong

and steady economic growth and politically stable in Malaysia , the

need for ‘K’ Line to focus on a bigger market in her core shipping

business was inevitable. With this challenge, ‘K’ Line entered into a

joint venture partnership with local interests to meet the challenges

ahead.

Thus, in 1990, K-Line Maritime Malaysia Sdn Bhd was established. With

its headquarters in Shah Alam and branches offices at the country’s

base ports at Port Kelang, Penang and Pasir Gudang backed up with a

network of sub-agents at Kuantan, Sabah and Sarawak, the exclusive K-

Line’s coverage of the Malaysian market was secured.

Today, K-Line Maritime (M) Sdn Bhd has staff strength of 76 throughout

Peninsular Malaysia.

MGT 2303 Page 18

NETHERLANDS MARITIME INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

To support the core business in the Container and Car Carrier traffic,

the office automation networking system for communication,

documentation and accounting were enhanced to cater for the increasing

expectations of its valued customers.

The overall information technology package was outsourced to ‘K’ Line

InfoSystem Pte Ltd, Singapore which was established to exclusively

meet K-Line’s IT requirements.

With the present K-Line deployment of 342 ships worldwide, the base

ports in Peninsular Malaysia at Port Kelang, Pasir Gudang and Penang

have been the regular ports of call for various trade lanes involving

traffic to and from the Trans-Pacific, North America, the Far East,

Europe, North Asia and Intra-Asia Rim.

In support of her container services, K-Line Own Container Fleet has

an inventory of not less than 220,000 units of all types of

containers. The containers, widely known as “K-Line Red Box” are

easily recognized both on the road and at sea on vessels due to her

brand name of “K-Line” emblazoned on them.

‘K’ Line operations in Malayisa are fully supported by the Regional

Trade Management Offices in ‘K’ Line America-Richmond-USA, ‘K’ Line

London-Europe and ‘K’ Line Singapore -Asia. With the said principal

offices ideally regionalized for the respective international trade

lanes and connected in the ‘K’ Line global network, prompt and

efficient co-ordination of day-to-day shipping requirements are

ensured.
