principal
Mr. Charles Tucker has done an outstanding
job in his position as Farmville High School's
energetic new principal. His progressive ideas
are a definite asset to a high school such as
Farmville which is representative of the high
scholastic standard imposed upon today's
students—and tomorrow's leaders. Although a
strict disciplinarian, he's always willing to as-
sist the student in any way he can.

MARY FOREE ALLEN
"Will the secretary please read the minutes?" Theseare indeed familiar words to Mary Allen who, during
her high school career, has served as secretary for the
Junior Class, ETA, and Keyette Club. Being active in
her church youth group, Mary was elected to serve as
1965 state CYF secretary. Familiarly known to all of her
classmates as "Mary Pie," she is admired by them for
her dependability, good personality, and capability of
handling every job she undertakes. Being chosen a mem-ber of the SGA, an officer in the band, and Best -All-
Round her Senioryear proves the great respect and confi-
dence her many friends have for her.
ARMID EDDIE ALLEN, III
"Hey, Ed! Don't stop! Keep moving !" And moving
he is—his outstanding record in athletics more than proves
it. Being a five -letter man makes Eddie very versatile
in sports and it is no w o n d e r that he was chosen Most
Athletic by the Senior Class. The students showed their
trust in his ability to get a job done when he was elected
president of the Freshman Class. Because of his popular-
ity, he was chosen to represent the Freshman Class as
their candidate for Homecoming King . Eddie is quite
active in all school activities and has acquired manypositions of leadership—too numerous to name. Big Ed's
good looks and even disposition will make him a sure
winner on any team.
34
RHODERICK JOAN BAKER
Interviews, headlines, and deadlines are quite famil-
iar to Joan Baker who served as editor of the News 'N'
Views this year. Joan has served on the staff for three
years and was a delegate to New York her sophomore
year for the annual school newspaper convention. Joan's
willingness, conscientiousness, and quiet mannerisms
are admired by all. Her classmates proved this when they
elected her treasurer of her Junior Class and the MathClub. She was also a member of the SGA, Keyettes, and
voted. Most Dependable in her Senior Class. It is quite
evident that her dependability and capability willbe sure
to carry her to the top.
VIVIAN LU DIXON
OLeadership and enthusiasm characterize Lu Dixon,
the first girl in eastern North Carolina to b e elected
Governor of Tar Heel Girl's State. Our Luisa spirited
tri -captain of the basketball team, a former reigning
Homecoming Queen, assistant editor of this year's
ARCHWAY, and assistant head of the majorette squad.
She began her leadership training her Sophomore year
as an SGA representative and was elected secretary of
the student body the following year. She was tapped
into the Keyette Club and then became Sweetheart of
the Key Club. The people in Lu's future better be pre-
pared because she's enterprising enough to takeoveranything —anywhere !
35
JOHN MICHAEL HARDISON
Progress—in anything—requires a sound financialbasis upon which to build, and our finances are in cap-
able hands. The man with the coins is Mike Hardison,
this year's SGA treasurer. In addition, Mike is also pres-
ident of the Senior Class—and his ideas as to how things
should be done are as big as the job he has to do. Helikes all sports—especially swimming—and his person-
ality as well as good looks make h i m a welcome sight
at any gathering.
Outstanding ^Seniors
CECIL LYNN EASON, JR.
As an ace president of the Junior Class, Cecil Eason
has come to be a habitual leader in h i s high school
activities. This star athlete of football, basketball, and
golf has made quite an enviable record for himself in
sports. Aside from h i s participation in extra -curricular
activities, he has received the honor of being a MoreheadScholarship finalist from this district, as well as being
H o m e c o m i ng King, president of UCYF, and an SGArepresentative. It is no wonder that this amiable memberof the class of '66 was elected Best -A 11 -Round by his
Senior Class. With the intelligence, ambition, and zest
for living that Cecil possesses, he will be rewarded in
the future with much success.
36
ANN HARDEN PIERCE
ELEANOR ANN JOYNER
"All hail Queen Ann !" In the capacity of Home-coming Queen for 1965-'66, the ash-blonde green-eyed
beauty has represented FHS well. Yet this is only one of
the many honors that Ann Joyner has received during her
four years in high school. Intelligence, beauty, talent,
and a friendly manner—Ann has them all. These are the
attributes for which sh e was chosen Miss A R CHW AY,Key C 1 ub Sweetheart, president of th e Keyette Club,
and a member of the SGA Council. An active partici-
pant in church and civic activities, Ann was also elected
president of the MYF as well as being selected to receive
Farmville's DAR Good Citizen Award. Being a consci-
entious person, Ann will always be found doing her best.
"R e a d y . . . let's g o ! " As head cheerleader, Ann's
vivaciousness has constantly spurred the teams to greater
efforts. One of the busiest girls at FHS, Ann has served
as secretary of h e r Freshman Class and Science Club.
As a Junior her outstanding leadership qualities wererecognized when she was tapped into the Keyette Club.
Aside from her school work, Ann presently serves as
president of h e r church youth group. Rating a number -
one student in grades, Ann is a member of NHS . How-ever, her outstanding scholastic record reached a climax
when she served as co-chief marshal her Junior year.
Without a doubt, Ann rates highly in the opinion of her
classmates as being a spirited, sincere, friendly, andactive girl.
37
MARY ETHEL PRICEA whacky, "big -mouthed " scatterbrain—our hats are
off to M a ry Ethel Price who did a remarkable job as
editor of t h e 1966 ARCHWAY . Mary Ethel was chosen
as one of Farmville 's representatives t o attend the '65
session of Girls' State. Her Senior year was highlighted
by being tapped into the Keyette Club and being chosen
Most Intellectual in the Senior Class. She has partici-
pated in band, SGA, NHS, served as church organist for
two years, and as a marshal. T o the surprise of many, she has demonstrated an undeniable ability to success-
fully organize and complete every job she undertakes—so here's to her continuing success!
ROLAND DIXON SAULSTime passes—and Dixon's "passes" have been no less
significant in helping to establish Farmville as a major
threat to any school seeking a football championship.
A man of few words and fast action as president of the
SGA,Dixon has demonstrated the qualities of leader-
ship, self-confidence and general ability w h i c h have
made him the success he is. Among his other achieve-
ments he has lettered in every major sport, has served
a s marshal and co-chief marshal, and is an active
member in the Key Club. So Dixon, congratulations on
a four-year job well done.

football 1965
Coach Elbert Moye's 1965 edition of the Farmville
Red Devils surprised everyone but themselves as they
compiled a sparkling 9 and 1 record. They extended
the school's winning streak to eighteen straight gamesbefore finally suffering a defeat in their seventh en-
counter of the campaign. When on the attack, the
Red Devil gridders scored at the rate of four touch-
downs a game while displaying a well-balanced of-
fense. On defense they were equally effective as they i
limited the opposition to only a handful of touch-’
downs. This was also a year of firsts for the RedI
Devils. It was the first year that Farmville HighSchoolparticipatedin the2-Aathletic classification,
i
and it was also the team's first year as a member ofthe Eastern Plains Conference. Even though the RedDevils were official conference members, they were i
declared ineligible for the conference crown duringtheir first year of membership. But the Red Devilswere not to be denied as they ripped through their
conference schedule with an undefeated record to ;.
assure themselves of the unofficial conference title. :
The accomplishments of this year's Red Devil eleven '
pay an excellent tribute to their fine coach, Mr.|
Elbert Moye, who exhibited excellent leadership on I

The '65-'66 D evil ettes have begun another year of drill-
ing and practice to prepare themselves for the tough
competition of the 2A Eastern Plains Conference. Their
main attack has been centered upon their speed, agility,
and ability to move the ball when on offense and to press
when on defense. Although it was a big step from lA to
2A basketball, the girls have shown untiring effort in
competition with larger clubs. The girls have lost several
games by only a few points, but during the second half
of the year they will be out to reverse these close scores.

This year's Red Devil cagers have the unenviable
task of trying to equal last year's fine record. The 1964-
65 team rolled to twenty-three victories while losing
only four games. The Red Devils finished in secondplace during the regular season, but they proved to be
real champions as they captured the Pitt County Tourna-
ment title be defeating arch-rival Ayden in three over-
tim e periods. The Devils then went on to win the
District Championship before they finally lost to
Booneville (the eventual state champions) in theState Play-offs at Durham. Withthe return ofthree starters
from last year's team, the Red Devils are again expect-
ed to be contenders for conference honors, although they
will be competing in the tough Eastern Plains 2A Confer-
ence for the first time. At the completion of the first
half of the season, the Red Devils are in first place with
seven victories and one loss against conference foes.

The year '64- '65 was a great year for track.
Farmville was undefeated in four meets— including
one intersectional meet in which the Devils defeated
Kinston. During the regular season Farmville de-
feated Ayden twice, Greene Central once, Roberson-
ville twice, and North Lenior once. Donnie Brown,
Robin Rouse, Ivey Smith, and Johnny Hardison were
leaders of the county championship team as short
distance men. Joe Lucas was the long distance manor miler. All these boys were Seniors. Eddie Evans,
a Junior, was in the 880 and mile run. He won 1st
place in the mile in the district meet held in
Greenville, and he finished 14th in the state in the
same event. Louis Willoughby was the best dash manwith a time of 10.5 seconds. Donnie Brown's best
throw as a discus man was over 126 feet. Since track
was started in '63, Coach Allen Benfield's team has
lost only one meet, that being to Ayden the first
year.'
Wells runs close second in440yard dash against Farmville

For the third consecutive year the Farmville High
School baseball team successfully captured the conference
title . The team blended a f i n e balance of pitching,speed, and power to e n d the season with an 11-2 record.
It suffered its only setback in the first regular season
game and then roared to eleven successive wins before
losing to Pantego in the State Play-offs. The team was
tested in only a few games, but when the pressure was on,
the boys came through in grand style . After last year'
s
fine record and the loss of many key players, this year's
team will have to rely heavily on its returning lettermen.
The Farmville nine is looking forward t o a successful
season in the 2 -A Eastern Plains Conference.

<§ollGolf, as a competitive sport, was added to the ath-
,
letic program three years ago and has grown from the
original four members to the present nine . There are
seven returning lettermen. The 1965-1966 golf season be-
gins in March and F armville will compete with more
teams, since they are in the 2-A Eastern Plains Confer-
ence. Harvey Russ, team coach, has taken a keen inter-
est in the team. F armville Golf Club pro, KenWorthington, will instruct the team once a week. His
instruction will increase the team's proficiency. A new
system will be added to give the boys more incentive to
shoot lower scores. The team members will be ranked
according to their handicaps (average number of strokes
above par per eighteen holes). Each member has the op-
portunity of challenging the golfer ranked directly above
him. If he wins the match, he will move up one step on
the ladder, and may eventually be ranked the team's
number one golfer.
