The college is bound to accept and implant the evaluation reforms introduced byShree Govind Guru University. The college has introduced the following

conduct seminar, debates and quiz competition. The evaluation is the core andintegral part of the teaching and learning. The members of examination

committee monitor and observe all examination blocks through CCTV and give theinstruction to block supervisor and students if required following the rules

and regulations of internal evaluation praised by university. Once anexamination conducted, the assessed answer books are kept in strong room andmarks are put up on the notice board. We follow the academic calendar of the

affiliating university and evaluate the students through internal testsincluding additional test for those who could not take the exam due to illness

or any other unavoidable circumstances. The answer books are shown to thestudents if they demand. According to the affiliating university exam pattern

30 weightage is given to the internal evaluation. There is completetransparency in the internal assessment. After preparing the evaluation report

it is submitted by the concerned faculty and the same is displayed on thenotice board and also on the college website. Any student can approach the

faculty concerned for any exam related grievance. If student is not satisfiedwith teaching faculty’s explanation then student can approach grievance

department prepares their calendar and follow it for CIE. The college completesall internal evaluation before last days of submission of internal marks to the

university. The college conducts internal assessment and 30 of the totalcredits assigned for a course on the basis of attendance, class test,

assignments, seminars, etc. the result of class test, performance in theseminar presentation and assignments and the percentage of attendance are

considered for awarding internal grades. Assignments are given well in advanceand the timely submission is ensured by the departments. Every month we conduct

7.2 – Best Practices

7.2.1 – Describe at least two institutional best practices

1. Title of the Practice: Super Saturday A. Objectives of the PracticeGovernment Arts College, Shahera celebrates Super Saturday for all students andteachers. The aim of this practice is to bring innovation and creativity inteaching and learning process. Students learn their curriculum in novel andcreative ways. This practice helps in achieving the goal of our education

policy i.e ‘Learning Without Burden’. Students of this backward and tribal areaneed some refreshment and stress management activities that can provide

opportunities to these students. Super Saturday helps Students in developingpositive attitude towards sports, physical health and mental health. B. The

Context Creativity is most important aspect of education system. Thesignificance of fostering student’s creativity in higher education has been

widely recognized, due to the need for preparing young students for theuncertain, competitive and complex world of work and market, which requiresindividuals to be able to use their creative abilities. Traditional method ofteaching is not sufficient enough to bring holistic development of students.

The Super Saturday is a practice where faculty and students involve themselvesin creative methods of teaching-learning process. C. The Practice Every

Saturday is Super Saturday in Government Arts College, Shahera. On first, second and third Saturdays, the college focuses on creative aspects of leaningand on fourth Saturday focuses on activities of sports, yoga and meditation forfitness purpose. On first, second and third Saturdays, the faculty go into the

classroom following the time-table, but teach students with innovativepractices like games, activities, competitions, role play, video, movie andgroup discussion or outdoor visit or class lecture. The teachers avoid usingtraditional teaching methods on Saturday like chalk-duster and power point

presentation in classroom. They focus on creative teaching and students’ activeparticipation in studies. Students also have freedom to present creativity fromtheir side on Saturday, for example if they have prepared any drama from theirliterary studies they can present or if they have surveyed anything in socialsciences or economics or have done any experiment in psychology apart fromtheir regular tasks they can present it in front of their teachers and

classmates. On the fourth Saturday, students and teachers start their day with

Yoga and physical exercise. On that day, students have a freedom to play anygame or to involve themselves in any creative tasks such as rangoli, drawing,

painting, knitting, etc. On this day all the faculty members and studentssupervise the college campus and make it clean. They also find out the issueslike water leakage, electrical facilities, etc. and try to fix it. The teacherstake lecture on physical and mental health and share tips of how to have goodhealth. D. Evidence of Success Following are the evidences that are consideredto claim this practice successful: i. Teachers learn new creative method ofteaching rather than traditional method ii. Students learn with more interestand enthusiasm iii. Students and teachers both have a space of for creativity

iv. Lengthy syllabus becomes enjoyable and more comprehensive v. ImprovesStudents- teachers’ relationship vi. Curriculum is mixed with fun and givesbreak from routine classes vii. Students develop positive attitude towardssports and co-curricular activities viii. Students’ attendance increases

because of this Super Saturday E. Problems Encountered and Resources RequiredFor the Super Saturday, the college has not separate budget so that the collegeintroduces only those practices in Super Saturday where there is no need of

money. On fourth Saturday, the college organizes sports and fitness activitiesbut the college has difficulty to implement these practices properly because

the college has limited sports and fitness facilities 2. Title of the Practice:Finishing School Objectives of the Practice: Government Arts College, Shaheraorganizes the Finishing School for the students of third year B.A. The aim of

this practice is to make students competent enough to enter into theprofessional world. Students of this tribal area immediately need a job tosupport their families after graduation. There are many companies that can

provide good job opportunities to these students in Gujarat. So, our college, under the government scheme of the Finishing School, trains them for various

jobs. The Context This is the era of competition and technology. It is obviousthat economically and socially backward students do not have got the equalopportunities to learn this job skills in comparison to urban area students.

So, this is the platform where they learn and help themselves to find a betterjob. The Practice In this practice, they are taught communication skills,

resume writing, interview etiquettes, email etiquettes, etc. It is a hundredhours training programme and the college also randomly invites experts from theoutside for this purpose. Mostly, this training is conducted by the collegeteachers only. It has been observed that here in this tribal area students

suffer from inferiority complex due to the lack of self- confidence. We build-up that self-confidence in our students during the practice. In this school,

students are provided the Student Manuel prepared by the KCG (KnowledgeConsortium of Gujarat), Gujarat. They are also trained to think critically onvarious subjects and are encouraged to learn problem-solving and decision-making. The students are also given the midday meal during the practicecompletely free of cost. This is an initiative taken by the college in

collaboration with the Gujarat government to make students employable. Evidenceof Success Students have started communicating properly now and there isnoticeable change in the confidence level of the students. They also

communicate with strangers without any hesitation and inferiority complex. Theyhave learnt writing skills for resume and e-mail. They are now ready for

interviews and group discussion. Problems Encountered and Resources RequiredThe trainers change in different phases and thus it takes more time for

students to cope up with the new trainer. Students attended 4 hours regularclasses and then they have 4 hours finishing schools training so that students

physically and mentally get tired.
