Task 3 – Complete the activities below.
Example A Example B
One key difference was trade. Athens
did not have very much land which
meant it could not grow enough food to
feed everyone. Athens needed to trade
olive oil and wine for wheat. Sparta had
more land so it could grow enough food
to feed everyone. Sparta traded this
surplus for metal to make weapons.

but the difference is that Athens traded for food but
Sparta did not need extra food so traded to help its
army grow.
Task 3, Stretch task – Use the space below to design a check-list of everything you need to include in
a paragraph. (Example: 1. Check your point sentence answers the question.)

How to revise in History
This booklet has given you some guidance for revision, but most of your revision
should be your own.
Here are some suggestions for ways you can revise independently. Use these
consistently and you will learn and improve.
Revision techniques
What? Why? How?
Flash
cards and
quizzes
‘Self-quizzing’ – testing
yourself on information
– is one of the best
ways to learn anything.
Many studies over the
last 100 years have
proved this.
Choose a topic. Make a set of
around 10 flash cards with
questions on one side and
answers on the other.
Test yourself regularly until you
can confidently get full marks.
Test yourself on the contents of
your knowledge organiser –
write out key definitions, facts
and dates from memory.

this technique to

Mind
maps
Putting away your notes
and sketching mind
maps/notes from
memory is a strong way
to learn. The act of
‘retrieving’ information
from memory makes
the knowledge more
likely to stick.
Start with your notes. Make a
mind map for a particular
topic. Branches represent key
parts of the topic, then key
facts/dates/people.
Then do this again without
notes to hand. Go back with a
green pen and add anything
you missed.

this technique to
revise:

3.___________
Practice
answers
Practising the kind of
questions you are likely
to get in the test means
you are much more
familiar and confident
with the test.
There are several practice
questions in these booklets. Do
some with notes but build up to
doing them without notes, in
timed conditions.
Ask your teachers for extra
practice questions if you
complete all of these. You can
also swap answers with friends
or make your own questions.
I am going to use
this technique to
revise:
1.___________
2.___________
3.___________
Reviewing
your work
Acting on feedback
already given and
finding key information
from notes ensure that
you understand what is
being asked of you in
AP2.
Re-read your deep mark
feedback. Use post-It notes to
pick out key ideas and facts
from your written pieces.
