Annual Report 2019

It gives me immense pleasure to present to you, once again, a detailed account of our Performance and Achievements made during the last Fiscal Year which ended on 30th June 2019.

The Annual Report of Memon Health & Education Foundation provides you an overview of the achievements made as well as a brief about the initiation of many mega projects during the Past Year and detail of our Future Expansion Plans. During the just-concluded Fiscal Year, the Foundation achieved several Milestones which is an indicator of the Eective Strategies & Policies which were implemented.

We aim to further improve the Quality of our Services year after year by bringing together Professional Expertise and Experience in Multiple Areas, ensuring that our Standards meet that are maintained Internationally, with due attention to Patient Safety.Organizational Success is based on our Objective to provide Excellence in Aordable Healthcare to all those who seek Medical Assistance and patronize our Services. Combining Dedication and Responsibility towards our Patients, we work towards delivering Ecient Care and Long Term Value to all.

Our robust business model delivered sterling growth and improved revenues from July 2018 to June 2019. MMI Hospital registered consolidated annual revenues of Rs. 1,146.06 Million, reflecting 15% growth. We recorded tremendous growth in all our departments but some of the prominent areas of growth are Emergency, Outpatient Department, Inpatients, Laboratory and others. These departments received a significant growth in terms of volume of Patients and Revenue, which indicates the trust and confidence of patients in our diversified services.

We also started holding Medical Camps regularly in which complete treatment including the surgeries is oered free of cost to the deserving patients.

We are also delighted on achieving yet another milestone in the form of launching the College of Nursing which is the Second Project of Memon Health & Education Foundation. Tremendous needs exist for Trained and Technically Sound Nursing Sta in the Healthcare field which indeed poses a serious constraint. Our College of Nursing has already started delivering Quality Education to the Students. We are oering both Degrees as well as Diploma programs in various fields. We are in process of Expansion of the Hospital’s Departments including the Construction of the Dialysis,

Obstetrics & Gynecology Ward, a New Outpatient Department, Construction of the Administration Building and the College of Physiotherapy. All these are essential to serving the Patients better and with the best possible facilities. We are also keen to promote the Post Graduate Training Programs as per the guidelines of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. This will provide a Great Opportunity for Healthcare Professionals to receive Training in an internationally recognized Healthcare Institution.

The Laboratory Department of MMI Hospital is one of the most important features of our growth whereby the Lab Samples are processed in an internationally recommended environment. Our Lab is not only the Backbone of our Hospital but also serving the needs of numerous Hospitals and Laboratories across the city. The growth and success lie in the dedication and eorts of our sta at every level and their perseverance in striving to be better and do better in their roles. I would like to extend my Sincere Gratitude and Appreciation to the Oce Bearers of the Foundation as well as all the Dedicated Employees of MMIH for their Commitment, Dedication and Hard Work for the Continued Growth of MMIH.

Memon Medical Institute Hospital

Annual Report 2019 06

We have completed another year with several notable achievements in the growth of the hospital. Among all other significant achievements, the tremendous growth in all the departments of the hospital is the top accomplishment which is due to the eorts and commitment of the employees. We are in process of continuously introducing new techniques to improve the service standards.

We realize that choosing the right hospital for medical needs has always been a dicult decision for the patients. We are a dynamic organization providing services of international standards and gained a reputation of delivering quality healthcare solutions to all without any discrimination. The combination of most modern equipments and experienced consultants, we have grown significantly and delivering beyond the expectations of our valued patients.

In the year ended 2019, we have planned several expansion projects including the addition of the wards and the Out-patient Departments to serve more patients and hopefully, these planned projects will be a valua-ble addition in the hospital. As Honorary General Secretary Board of MHEF, I am very thankful to the Trustees of MHEF, Board of Governors, Hospital Management Board, doctors, employees and others for their support and commitment. I look forward to their continued support for further expansion and our progressive journey will continue of serving the humanity.

Being the Deputy Chair-man of Memon Health & Education Foundation, I am indeed happy and satisfied to witness the Past Fiscal Year as anoth-er Great Successful Year for the Foundation. The Patient Care & the Patient’s Satisfaction remained as Top Priority for the Foundation, which is a regular pattern of our Quality Healthcare Stand-ards.

We are in the process of expanding the Hospital thereby increasing the Number of Beds with special emphasis on Obstetrics & Gynecology and Dialysis departments. The number of Patients indeed increased manifold due to the activation of Lab Collection Points as well as through Inno-vative Marketing Techniques. We also started the Diabetic Clinic at Dhoraji Lab Collection Unit to facilitate the Diabet-ics Patients.

We continue to value our Dedicated Team as the Most Important and Vital Asset of our Organization as they indeed translate Corporate Vision of the Foundation into reality by delivering High Level of Care to all the Patients.

We are constantly addressing the needs of our Team and are taking necessary steps to motivate Employee Engage-ment through a Performance-Driven culture. In doing so, every Team Member is made to understand his or her role in contributing to the organization’s performance, thereby enhancing their commitment to uphold and maintain the Best Standards of Service Delivery.

We took steps to transform its organizational culture and create a cohesive team environment. Continuous eorts were taken to improve communication between Manage-ment, Sta, Team Leaders and Units to disseminate infor-mation across the organization.

We are therefore Confident to witness Continued Progress, Stability, and Expansion in our Dedicated Services make the MMIH a Leading Name in Providing Quality Healthcare in all fields and to Everyone, in the Years to come.In’Sha’Allah.

(Retd)

The accessibility of aordable and quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every human being. It is the legal obligation of every state to ensure access to timely, acceptable and aordable healthcare of appropriate quality as well as the provision of the underlying determinants of health. With the ever-increasing disease burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and with the rapid advancement in new techniques of diagnosis and treatment, it is becoming more challenging for every state particularly the developing and under developed.

Health care sector in Pakistan has succeeded to receive only marginal budget allocation out of the national exchequer over the years vis-a-vis the growing population. Therefore, despite the best possible eorts, the common man remains devoid of basic health facilities. Due to low socioeconomic and weak financial condition of the masses, aordability has been a persistent challenge for common people. Even the middle stratum of the society feels the constraint to achieve quality health facilities from the existing healthcare industry in Pakistan.

Memon Health and Education Foundation (MHEF), a not for profit organization comprising God fearing and generous trustees came to the forefront and decided to contribute to alleviate misery of the masses. Memon Medical Institute Hospital (MMI Hospital), a flagship project of MHEF has been established and proudly serving the community with a vision to be a role model for caring, curing, education, research and employment. The mission assigned to this state-of-the-art hospital is to provide accessible and aordable quality health care and education to all with empathy, dignity and respect; irrespective of their caste, creed, color, religion or the ability to pay.

Brigadier Dr. Malik Waqar Ahmad Awan, TI(M) (Retd)

Memon Medical Institute Hospital

Annual Report 2019

SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTALRESPONSIBILITY

Waste Management The most important factor for the hospital is the management of healthcare services and the disposal of the hospital wastage. We have developed and strongly implementing a mechanism for waste management under the international guidelines of waste management as well in accordance with Sindh Environmental Protection Agency. As such, a process is also in place to address hazardous waste and our sta members are educated on the management thereof to ensure no harm comes to anyone present in the premises. All hazardous material is labelled and documented and disposed of safely in order to prevent any adverse eects and thereby guarantee the people’s safety.

We have developed the standard protocols for waste segregation from point source through waste categorization via color coding. The color coding helps the relevant sta to handle and dispose as per the guidelines and reducing the errors of handling the hospital waste which may cause serious consequences, if thrown carelessly. Our waste management eorts were also appreciated by Sindh Healthcare Commission during their recent survey of our hospital.

Maintenance of Equipment We conduct maintenance activities according to a maintenance cycle, guided by the Biomedical Engineers. The hospital also performs random checks throughout the day to ensure consistent patient safety and care is upheld. Emergency maintenance requirements are forwarded to a centralized location, recorded and assigned to the relevant department to address issues speedily and eciently. All our equipments are routinely and timely calibrated.

Infection Control Infection control is the core component of our hospital environmental services which has an impact on the physical environment for all, including the patients, their attendants and the hospital sta. Our IPC (infection prevention and control) infrastructure such as isolation precaution (negative pressure) have been designed up to the international standards. Infection control standard protocol applied in all stages of the operations with the integration of our state of the art Central Sterilization Department and General Support Services Department. The Patient Cross Infection Protection measures are implemented at all the stages of the patient care to ensure that the patient receive completely safe treatment. The hand sanitizers are placed at every important spots of the hospital and the wash-basins and to persuade the visitors for hand cleaning. Handwashing & use of hand sanitizers is encouraged by pasting the posters throughout the hospital.

Memon Medical Institute Hospital as a tertiary healthcare hospital aims to provide continuum of care. The day to day operations of the hospital is to treat patients with the best-possible

care with the compliance of social and environmental responsibility.

TRANSFORMING LIFESUCCESS STORY

This is about a successful story of a Neurosurgery Department, a case of a 35 years old female who had a history of the right side paralysis and loss of speech along with unconsciousness condition for one month. She was from a middle-class family and couldn’t aord the high cost of the neurosurgery.

The entire family was suering and going through a trauma. She was brought to MMI Hospital in a completely unconscious state and unable to speak.

Dr. Muhammad Muzaar Uddin, Neurosurgeon and Head of Department of Surgery, MMI Hospital, admitted her under his supervision and did her brain surgery and professionally manage the complete case. After the successful surgery, a huge brain tumor was removed which is clinically known as Meningioma.

After the operation, she successfully regained her power on the right side and fortunately, her speaking power has also been completely recovered and she returned to her family and to start spending a normal happy life. Her family, especially kids are very happy and blessed to see her alive amongst them.

Her successful operation was done with the help of the welfare department as the family was unable to bear the complete cost of the treatment. It is also pertinent to mention here that we are oering the neurosurgery services at the lowest rates in the city and providing high-quality healthcare services.
