Reaccredation-

The college has been reaccredidated as B grade with CGPA of 2.54 on March 5th

2015.

A Peer team consisting of Dr Arun K Pujari, Prof Eresi and Dr Sanjay M. Shah visited

the college on March 5th

, and 6th

2015. They visited all the departments on the first day

and met the alumni, parents of the college students. The support services and extension

service units were visited on the second day. The exit meeting was held on 7th

March

2015 and the confidential report was handed over by the Peer team to the Principal.

Board of Directors

The college administration has Board of Directors to execute the activities and duties of various

portfolios. The chairman of all the boards is the Principal. All the activities of the board are

discussed with the Principal and it is executed after the approval of the Secretary and

Correspondent too. Regular meetings are held and reports are maintained by the directors. They

Parents’ Institute Industry Interface

Placement cell in association with IQAC organized an event called ”PARENTS` INSTITUTE

INDUSTRY INTERFACE” with the theme ““Conclave on Curriculum, Career and Capacity

Building” on 20 .12.2014.. This meet is a first of its kind ventured by an Educational Institution

and This Conclave provided a platform where parents had an opportunity to discuss with the

institution and the industry experts. The key note speaker for the day was Mr.K.Manickam ,

GM (HR),(Rtd), Southern Region, Indian Oil Corporation and former Chairman, NIPM who

imparted valuable knowledge on various job avenues and insights pertaining to expectations of

industry. Dr. G. L. Sampoorna, Psychologist addressed on “Effective Communication in

Families“ followed by a Discussion Forum on solutions for young adults problems. Psychologist

explained the ways of effective communication through demonstration and few workshop

activities. Dr.P.T.Vijayshree, Principal emphasized on the importance of quality in higher

education. A minimum of two hundred and fifty parents actively participated in the Meet and

they felt it was a thought provoking session. The organising secretaries of the Meet were Mrs.

Selvi, Vice principal Mrs.Ammani, IQAC Director, Dr.M.Alagammai and

Mrs.Madhukrithigha, Placement Directors

“Role of Parents in Sustaining Quality in Higher Education” on 24th

February 2015

Chief Guest-Dr.Thangham Meghnathan, Chair Person Rajalakshmi Group of Institutions.

Dr.Thangham Meghanathan spoke on the various spheres were parents can contribute to the

academic enhancement of their child. She stressed on the need for on the campus counselor.

Principal Dr.P.T.Vijayshree, introduced the theme. The technical session started with power

point presentation on the theme by IQAC member Mrs.S.Muthukumari, Assistant Professor

Department of Computer Application. It was followed by a presentation by Director,

Develpoment of Sciences Dr. R.S.Ramya, Head PG department of Biotechnology. It was

followed by an interactive session where faculty from M.O.P. Vaishnav college and also shared

their views.

Vice Principal Mrs.R.Selvi, Director Students Affairs and Director System administration

Mrs,L.M.Shanthi, Head PG Department of Computer Science chaired the session.

Dr.A.Xavier Mahimairaj, IQAC Coordinator, Loyola College was the chief guest for the

valedictory session. He gave insight to the collective responsibility of all the stake holders of

education and stressed on the role of parents.

Career Alumni Mentor Program

Alumni were invited as Delegates for Career Alumni mentor programme on 31.01.15.

prominent alumni Sundar, Harshitha, Mukthar, Pradeesh and few others addressed on vital

areas like building a career, professional ethics, corporate exposure for II and III year students.

The programme connected students and alumni for the purpose of education, career, advice,

corporate skills and mentorship.

Interschool Workshop

On 7th

January, a workshop for school students was organized in which 6 schools and 91

school students form X and XI standard participated. Charts were displayed and explained. The

students had a live demonstration of various microbes and the staining techniques. A power

point presentation on introduction and scope of Microbiology was done by Mrs. C.K. Babini,

Head of the department. The workshop aimed at taking the school children from classroom

teaching to visual laboratory techniques

Biosciences Week

A week long activities were celebrated from 5th January to 9th

January 2015 by the

departments of Microbiology and Biotechnology. On 5th

January, students were taken to a

Estuarine Biology Laboratory visit at Pulicat.. On 6th

January 2015, two guest lectures were

arranged. Dr Venkatraman Sriram, a translational Research Scientist from California briefed

on drug design and first phase of clinical trials. Mrs Saranya Subramanian, an alumni from

the department from the batch (2005-08) also spoke on drug design and clinical trials. On the

same day the magazines of the two departments, Aakrithi and Biovistas were released by the

chief guest and handed over to the editors. On 7th

January, a workshop for school students

January a State level workshop was organized on DNA finger printing (RFLP) and

Photoshop. 4 colleges and 50 students participated. Certificates were given away. On 8th

January all the students were taken around the Aavin plant. All the steps from collection of

milk from various places, testing them for fat content, Pasteurization processes, packing of the

different varieties of milk based on fat content, storing the finished packets in cold rooms till

their dispatch. Students were also taken around the plant of making various milk products.

Statistical survey

Department of Mathematics organised a follow up statistical survey in Kattukudalur village. The

survey was followed by a Science Orientation programmed for the students of the village

school. Assistant Profs. Mr. R. Gopinath, Coordinator of extension Services explained the

scientific concepts to the students of the class 4 and 5 with models. Students of the departments

of Mahtematics and Computer science collected the data on Tobacco consumption by the

residents of the village. Also data relating to organic farming was collected. Projects in these

topics were released later. Prinicpal Dr. Pt. Vijayshree, Mrs S. Ammani, R. Sangeeetha, Mr

Gopinath Miss. Sudarmozhi, and Miss K. Aswini accompanied students of III & II B.Sc.

Mathematics, II B.Sc. Computer Science, for the survey.

Institutional Social Responsibility

As a part of Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) activity the college conducted the

following events with the theme based on Donate Blood and Save lives. The following

activities were organized during weekends from last week of December 2014 and prizes

were distributed during February 2015.

The college also conducted Kumararaja Premier League Season I (Corporate vs College), a

tennis ball cricket tournament. Each game has ten overs per innings. Each bowler can bowl

a maximum of three overs. Each team has eleven players with four substitutes. The Winner

carried a cash award of Rs 30,000, a winning trophy and individual prizes. The Runners

carried a cash award for Rs 15,000 a Runners trophy and individual prizes.. Individual

prizes also include a cash prize and atrophy for the following categories like Man of the

Series, Best batsman, Best bowler, and Best fielder.

18 corporate offices and 12 colleges participated . Few corporate who participated were

Medall, HCL, CTS, Royal Sundaram, Shell, HDFC, Scope International, Alsthom,

TCS Del etc. The winners were Wipro and runners were Asan Memorial College.

Two Blood Donation Camps were organised for the KPL in the College Campus

o By Rotaract club - in the month of December and 192 volunteers donated blood

o By NSS unit of the college - in the month of September and 150 volunteers

donated blood

College Bazaar

An Inter-collegiate Bazaar was conducted by the Department of Commerce on 06/02/2015 to

enable the student community to have an insight into the challenging field of entrepreneurship

and instill a spirit of self dependence. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Chef Damodaran who

spoke on the need to be a job provider rather than a job seeker. Five colleges took part in the

Bazaar and 29 stalls were put up. The stalls put up included accessories, clothing, entertainment,

mehandhi, food stalls, bike wash, etc.

Campus to Corporate (C2C) finishing school programme

Campus to Corporate Finishing School programme was conducted during July to

September 2014 and classes are regularly conducted for the final year UG students. The

programme focuses on objective English, logical reasoning, analogy, conversational

skills, motivation, General Arithmetic, Goal Setting, SWOT Analysis and Interviewing

Skills. The external Trainers were Dr. K.R. Subrahmany, Mr. Vijay Balaji, Mr. A.G.

Joseph, Mr. N. Devarajan, Mr. P.K. Rangarajan and Mrs. Jayaa Rangarajan. The

internal trainers were Principal Dr.P.T.Vijayshree, Mrs. R. Selvi, Mrs. S. Ammani, Mrs.

R. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. M. Alagammai, Mrs. B. Hema, and Mrs. L. Mathukrithigha.

Campus to Corporate Finishing School programme was conducted in association with

Vista Mind for final year students since January 2015.

National Conference

PG department of information Technology organized a National Conference on Recent

Trends in Information Technology (NCRTIT -2015) on 20th

February 2015. The

speakers for the various sessions are Dr. S.K.Srivatsa, Senior Professor (CSE)

,Prathyusha Institute of Technology and Management , Dr. V.Ramesh Assistant

Professor, Sri Chandra Sekarendra Saraswathi Vishwa Mahavidhayalaya University,

Kancheepuram and Mr.B.Balamurugan, Assistant Professor, Rajiv Gandhi College of

Arts & Science, Pudhuchery.21 papers are published in the conference proceeding with

ISBN No. 978-81-927411-2-3

State Level Workshop

PG department of information Technology organized State Level workshop on

“Photoshop” for final year UG students on 8th

January 2015. 96 students from various

college participated. The Resource Person was Mr. R. Gopinath, Assistant Professor,

Dept. of Electronics and Communication Science, KRMMC

PG Department of Biotechnology organized a State level workshop on DNA FINGER

PRINTING (RFLP) for UG final year students on 8th

Jan 2015. Around 40 participants

from various colleges around the state participated and were benefitted. The workshop

kit and folder was sponsored by Orange Labs and kit manufacturers. An orientation

regarding the career and scope was enlightened by Dr. P.T. Vijayshree, Principal,

KRMMC. Technical session was supported by Ms. Hemalatha , Production Manager

from Orange and the lab session was coordinated by all the faculty members of the

Department of Biotechnology. All the participants were given certificates at the end of

the program.

Institutional Social Responsibility

As a part of Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) activity the college conducted the

following events with the theme based on Donate Blood and Save lives. The following

activities were organized during weekends from last week of December 2014 onwards. and

prizes were distributed during February 2015.

The college also conducted Kumararaja Premier League Season I (Corporate vs

College), a tennis ball cricket tournament. Each game has ten overs per innings. Each

bowler can bowl a maximum of three overs. Each team has eleven players with four

substitutes. The Winner carried a cash award of Rs 30,000, a winning trophy and

individual prizes. The Runners carried a cash award for Rs 15,000 a Runners trophy

and individual prizes.. Individual prizes also include a cash prize and atrophy for the

following categories like Man of the Series, Best batsman, Best bowler, and Best

fielder.

12 colleges participated . Few corporate who participated were Medall, HCL, CTS,

Royal Sundaram, Shell, HDFC, Scope International, Alsthom, TCS Del etc. The

winners were Wipro and runners were Asan Memorial College.

Two Blood Donation Camps were organised for the KPL in the College Campus

By Rotaract club - in the month of December and 192 volunteers

TCS Free Employability Training Program Orientation was carried out Srinath

Narayan Mani , Associate Vice President ,Affirmative Action & CSR (South)

, Tata Consultancy Services addressed the gathering on 13.02.2015. Around 120

students attended the orientation session. TCS Employability training programme

is conducted in 2 batches where 50 students are benefitted. .

WORKSHOP and CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME - A workshop was

organized for final year students of BCA and B.Sc. CS on personal grooming and

was conducted on 11.08.14 in association with VlCC.

A session on confidence building was organized for final year students of B.Com

The institution has a faculty with strong academic credentials, who work with passion

and commitment for teaching. All are well versed in ICT mode of technology.

The management encourages the faculty to participate in various development

programs to equip themselves with the latest trends and technologies. The management

also gives them on duty permission to attend the same.

Continuous monitoring with regular tests, extra coaching for tamil medium and weak

students. Students with arrear papers are also given extra attention to enable them to

clear the same before the last semester.

Seminars and assignments also bring out the innate capabilities of the students like their

reference, presentation and oratorical skills.

Question papers for mid semester examinations were sent to the principal by the

concerned staff online to the mail id specified by the Principal.

The students of B.Sc Mathematics brought out two projects under the guidance of Mrs.

brought out two projects under the guidance of Mrs G.T.Shakila Devi, Assistant

Internal marks are awarded by the institution as per the affiliated university norms,

based on their performance in repeated internal tests, attendance, project work, seminars

and assignments.

An examination committee is formed (each department on rotation every year) which

coordinates and smoothly executes the university and model examinations. During the

examinations, they take care of the room arrangements, question paper distribution

attendance etc

The performance is given to each student in the form of a report card during parent

teachers meet. The parents discuss the performance of their wards with all subject

teachers to enable them to follow at home. Parents feedback in collected in the parents

The Reach” journal of KRMMC is a pioneer venture by the College research committee .

Every year the institution provides opportunities to publish the papers brought out by the

staff members in the journal. The main mission of the journal is to provide an

opportunity for students and staff to publish their current and significant research

papers.

Courses like BBA and B.Com (Corp.), MSc IT and Biotechnology have projects as a part

of their academic syllabus.

Principal communicates all important information through mails to all the departments

The audio visual room with the LCD projector has been put in good use by all the

departments in conducting various competitions involving ICT technology like paper

presentations, seminars via power point presentations.

Each department is provided with a computer and printer facility, which is well used by

all faculty members in preparing the question papers, lecture notes, question banks etc

Faculty development programs are encouraged to promote ICT teaching and learning

The college has an excellent infra structure and well spaced class rooms. Maintenance is

done by the house keeping and support staff with a supervisor. CCTV cameras have

been installed in strategic points with the monitoring of the Principal.

Teachers play an important role in teaching and leaning process. Emphasis is laid on

recruiting the teachers with strong academic credentials fulfilling the norms laid down by the

university.

Advertisements are given in leading newspapers to attract talents to suit specifications.

The applications are subject to scrutiny and short listed candidates are invited for

personal interviews which are conducted by a committee consisting of Principal, Vice

Principal, Head and senior faculty of the department

6.3.9 Admission of Students

All the departments interface with the industry and collaborate courses with them to suit

their syllabi. Students are taken to the factories and industries which helps them to

have an idea of the requirements of the industry.

Students from the life Sciences departments like Microbiology and Biotechnology were

taken to leading hospitals , laboratories, pharmacological industries etc. Students

keenly observe all the steps of processes in detail.

On 8th

December students of Microbiology and Biotechnology were taken to

Bio Processor lab at Anna University and Agro-foundation institute

A week long activities were celebrated from 5th January to 9th

January 2015

by the departments of Microbiology and Biotechnology during which students

were taken to Pulicat lake, Museum and Aavin milk factory at Ambathur

The final year arts students have a linkage with the various corporate companies and

industries where they do their projects and also undergo in-plant training before they

actually enter into their jobs.

Students from the department of Commerce visited RBI to create awareness on

financial literacy, Interested students were enrolled in SMS update scheme on savings

schemes, alerts, interest rates etc.

Stalls were put up in the Educational Fair organized by Dinakaran at Chennai Trade

Centre . Details regarding the various courses (both UG and PG) available at the college,

various features of the college like academics, sports, cultural, extension services were

explained to the visitors.

Workshop was conducted for the school students by department of Microbiology . to

motivate them to take up Sciences. Several schools participated and they were amazed to

see the live demonstrations.

Pamphlets were distributed to the school and college students

Around 10 consultancy companies were contacted and followed till August for the

admissions of post graduated courses like Information Technology and Biotechnology.

Highlights of the departments and courses was prepared as poster for post graduate

admission exclusively which was displayed on the notice board of a number of colleges

in the city. The poster was sent by post to rural areas and in person to the nearby

colleges. With the database collected during the competitions and workshops organized

by the college, final undergraduate course students were approached for admission.

Using personal contact numbers and addresses of undergraduate final year life science

students from other colleges who had participated in our inter-collegiate programs last

year, the students were contacted in person for admission, in the month of May and June.

Being an affiliated college, the minimum eligibility requirement of students, attendance

and internal assessment proposed by the University of Madras is strictly adhered to.

University also initiated on line exam registration, internal marks entry, hall tickets and

daily seating arrangement through online.

The college is affiliated to University of Madras. The college is now 19 years old, one of the

premier institutes of the city offering 10 UG and 2 PG courses. The college has now applied

for permanent affiliation and the top management is aspiring for autonomy status.

The Alumni Footprints : was established in the year 2005. The association regularly meets every

semester regularly on the fourth saturday of August and January every year under the leadership

of a designated faculty member.

Parents are invited on a specific day (Open Day) to interact with management and to check

the performance and progress of their ward.

The class teachers, heads of the departments also discuss the strengths and weakness of the

students which generally helps the parents to follow up at home.

Parents register is maintained with the respective departments to enter their inputs and

suggestions.

Philanthropic parent instituted a scholarship in the name of their ward.

Many initiatives are taken by the institution to make the campus friendly. They are listed

out as follows :

Rain water harvesting is done to accumulate the deposition of rain water for reuse

before it reaches the ground water.

The department of Biotechnology maintains an organic farm where the staff and

students grow vegetables and greens naturally.

Waste generated by the Life sciences departments are autoclaved . Chemical waste

like spent media, agarose gels , outdated blood, used cotton etc are deep buried

after effective autoclaving.

Smoke Free Campus

Plastic Free Campus : Plastic cups are replaced by paper cups in the college canteen

Organic Farming : Seeds of leafy vegetables were planted and the harvest was

distributed to staff and students

National Service Scheme

1. 25 NSS volunteers of our college have participated in Tamil Elakiya Mandram organized

by “DHINATHANDHI”at Madras University on 25th June 2014.

DR.A.P.J Abdul Kalam was the chief guest of the function.

2. On 14 th July, 9 units of blood have been donated by the NSS volunteers of our college to

our college student Avinash’s sister who has been affected by cancer.

3. 5 units of blood have been donated by 4 NSS volunteers of our college to our college

student’s dad who has affected by brain tumor on 19th August..

4. Nature club and NSS unit of KRMMC combined and organized Marina beach cleaning

on 20th August in which 30 NSS volunteers participated.

6. On 4th September NSS unit of KRMMC distributed stomach cleaning tablet to all our

college students

7. 6 NSS volunteers of our college have participated in drawing and slogan competition,

which was conducted by the RRC club of Madras university on 10 th September

8. Madras voluntary blood bank in association with Nss Unit of Krmmc organized a

voluntary blood donation camp On 19th September in which nearly 140 donors have

donated blood.

9. On 22nd September, 30 NSS volunteers of KRMMC have participated in the rally, which

was conducted by tourism and management.

10. 15 NSS volunteers have cleaned mathiya kailash railway station on 2nd October as per

PM’s order (Swatch Bharath).

11. Two of our NSS volunteers donated blood to heart patient in Gosha hospital on

November

12. On Dec 7th many of our NSS students participated in a flag formation at YMCA

Nandhanam.

13. NSS unit of the KRMMC collected list of poor students from our college for giving

business opportunity to their parents.

14. NSS volunteers collected name list of 10th dropout students and planned to help them

through our teaching which will help them to write their public exam.

15. On Jan 7th, 60 NSS volunteers participated in historical program at Madras University.

16. Few of our NSS volunteers have visited and celebrated Pongal with the kids in a Nethaji

orphanage at Velachery.

17. 15 NSS volunteers have visited Handicap and organized a game for them in CSIR Adyar

on 31st Jan.

18. On 11th Feb our NSS volunteers participated in competitions such as quiz, photography,

poster making, ad zap, junk art about Consumer awareness at Ethiraj college.

7.2 Best Practice 1:

Title of the practice : Pep Talk during Assembly

Goal :To increase the values of higher education and to give motivational talk to students.

The Context :Pep talk ,a kind of motivational talk and is a process to enable smooth

transition of young mind. A brief pep talk help the students to rethink their perceptions to

situations and ideas.

The Practice:

Every Monday, the college starts with the assembly meeting which helps the students and

staff gather themselves and prepare for the day with meditation, prayer, quotes from holy

books and inspirational messages delivered by faculty members called pep talk.

During the morning pep talk the students are sensitized on various prevalent social issues

and the importance of being a socially responsible citizen.

Evidence of success:

Overwhelming response and students enthusiasm shows increased determination to

success.

Best Practice 2 :

Title of the practice : Practice of Yoga

Goal :

To encourage focus on learning, broaden horizons and cultivate new understanding.

The Context

Concentration is a leading contributor to success in life and Yoga is a perfect barometer to

the level of concentration. It helps one to take care of mind, body and spirits.

The Practice:

Every day morning from 8.15 to 8.30 yoga classes has been conducted for the students of

different departments (in rotation) by physical directors of the college along with faculty

coordinator (trained Yoga practitioner) from Gurukul committee.

Yoga helps the beginners to cultivate discernment, awareness, self-regulation and

higher consciousness .

Evidence of success:

Increased awareness of the real purpose and goal of yoga practice.

Limited training time.
