Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) -2014-15:An Overview
1. What is the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) -2014-15?
Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)-2014-15 is the national levelcomputer based admission test conducted by AICTE for facilitatinginstitutions to select suitable students for admission in ManagementProgrammes in AICTE approved institutions and university departmentsfor year 2014-15. The test will be conducted twice in a year andcandidates will be eligible to appear in both the test. The better ofthe two scores will be used for admission. The testing window forcomputer based first test for admission for year 2014-15 will be openfor five days i.e. from 26th September, 2013 to 30th September, 2013in 62 cities in India and 5 cities in Foreign Countries. AICTE hasappointed M/s. Aptech Ltd., as Service Provider for executing alltasks related to conduct of CMAT-2014-15.
2. CMAT Test Cities:
The CMAT will be conducted in 62 cities in two shifts from 26thSeptember to 30th September, 2013 in India. The morning shift is from9.30am -12.30pm and afternoon shift is 2.30-5.30 pm.

M/s APTECH has been selected as service provider for conducting theexam. Service provider will execute all activities related to examunder supervision and monitoring of AICTE.

5. Responsibilities of Centre Superintendent(CS)
The Centre Superintendent is one of the senior authorities of thecollege who has the ability to work flexible hours. The CS willmaintain an efficient, secure test centre while supervising thedelivery of computer based exams to candidates and will report allSite information to APTECH Site Supervisor.He will Ensure that the operations and performance at the test centre(s)
meet the quality standards Ensure that all the Invigilators are trained and certified within
the deadlines. Plan staff schedules (Roster) as needed and supervise both
Invigilators and Relievers Ensure volunteers are trained and volunteers handle candidate crowd
efficiently Act as an Invigilator / Registration personnel to
administer/register tests when short staffed. Assist in the training of Invigilators. Ensure centre opening as per timelines. Ensure that all staff
report on time everyday Ensure that the BELL rings as per timelines given Exam password be distributed in sealed envelope 15 minutes before
the exam to all Invigilators Ensure centre cleanliness and availability of water, electrician,
housekeeping, etc on all exam days To supervise security/verification precautions of test candidates
arriving for registration, ensuring that identification and otherrelated processes are carried out correctly.

To support operations and technical personnel with theiractivities, ensuring that these are successfully completed
To ensure that exceptional cases requesting for retest or otherwiseare reported to APTECH Site Supervisor
Ensure that all reports are collected and submitted to APTECH SiteSupervisor.
The CS will be responsible for holding keys to the testingfacility.
Actively participate in APTECH audit and ensure all identified GAPSare closed before the readiness days
Resolve candidate and or building problems or report them to APTECHSite Supervisor.
6. Responsibilities of Invigilator
The Invigilator is a resource from the college. As front-linestaff for APTECH, the Invigilator is responsible for greetingcandidates, verifying their identification, and supervising testadministration following the guidelines. The Invigilator will be ableto deal with any problems arising at the lab in a professionalmanner. Greet Examinees and verify identification as per identification
process Will complete registration of candidates as per Registration
process and take candidates signature Will keep the lab ready and login screen open on all systems before
the candidates enter the lab Keep the scratch sheets on the desk of each candidate Monitor cleanliness of the lab Guide the candidates to their respective seats Give briefing instructions before the start of exam Announce/Display exam password and ensure start of exam at
stipulated time for each candidate Take candidate signature on the Roster and collect documents Tally the count of signature on the Roster with the head count and
registration count Report the head counts to Centre Superintendent Supervise the exam strictly Ensure all candidates submit the exam successfully Put the documents in appropriate envelope and handover the Big
Envelope to Centre Superintendent. The exception cases noted if any will be reported to Centre
Superintendent / APTECH Site Supervisor Identify and report problems occurring at the site to Centre
Superintendent/ APTECH Site Supervisor.

Resolve candidate and or building problems or report them to CentreSuperintendent/ APTECH Site Supervisor.
Accept responsibility for lab related tasks as assigned by CentreSuperintendent/ APTECH Site Supervisor.
7. Responsibilities of APTECH Site Supervisor
In addition, there will be an APTECH Site Supervisor in each venuewho will work in co-ordination with Centre Superintendent and willassist in executing all the responsibilities of CentreSuperintendent.
8. Responsibilities of AICTE Observers
AICTE Observers will supervise and ensure the time bound execution ofall the activities by different people appointed by the serviceprovider as described in this compendium and will submit the reportby email at [email protected] in the format given at Annexure-I foreach day separately after finishing both the batches on that day.
Observers will be responsible: To supervise the Test Centre and the examination hall to ensure
that required arrangements are made by Aptech. To asses that all processes and systems summarized in the
Compendium for conducting the exam has been followed in the timebound manner at the centre.
To help Aptech resolving exceptional cases and countersigning theprescribed undertaking / request for retest.
To report exigencies happening at centre which are not defined inthe compendium and requires AICTE approval for disposal
To submit the Feedback report on both the tests of that day byemail on the same day to the concerned Regional officer along witha copy to [email protected]. Following will be written in thesubject of the E-mail: Date_Slot_City_Centre_Expert i.e.26_M_Mumbai_Sinhagad _Khan
Hard copy to be sent to concerned RO within 24 hrs.

12. Registration Desk Activities
A) Verification Desk Candidates queue up at the MAIN ENTRANCE of the Test Venue.
Volunteers from Test venue are supposed to manage the queue All the staff get ready for their activity by 7.45 AM From 8:00 am for first batch and 1:00 pm for second batch,
candidates with id proof and ADMIT CARD will be allowed in batchesto enter through the MAIN ENTRANCE
Candidates will come to the desk where their documents will bechecked.
At this point, the document checking personnel will check thefollowing:

a) ADMIT CARD: ADMIT CARD should have candidates photo pasted onit. ADMIT CARD should be ATTESTED by Principal / Director ofthe Institute or the Gazetted Officer. In case ADMIT CARD isattested, then there is no need to check ID proof. In caseADMIT CARD is not attested, then follow below mentioned step ofchecking ID proof
b) An ID proof: Acceptable forms of photo identification types arelimited to College ID, Driver's license, Passport, PAN Card,Voter ID, UID card or a notarized Affidavit (in English) withPhoto, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address.Photocopies of the original are not acceptable.
c) SC/ST Certificate: If the candidate is SC/ST, then the originalor an attested photo copy of CASTE certificate should bechecked
d) PD Certificate: If the candidate is PD, then the original or anattested photo copy of PD certificate should be checked
B) The ADMIT CARD with “VERIFIED” stamp on the ADMIT CARD is thenhanded over to the candidates. The candidates are then sent to theRegistration desk.
Exception Handling:In case there is any candidate with exceptional cases (as definedbelow) they are directed to a SEPARATE AREA to complete theformalities relating to exceptional cases. APTECH Site Supervisoralong with AICTE Observer will be handling exceptional casesa) Exceptional cases not allowed to appear in the exam in the
scheduled slot:Candidates reporting at the test centre under the followingconditions will not be allowed to appear in the examination inthe allotted slot. 1. Candidates reporting after 30 minutes of commencement of
exam.2. Candidates reporting in some other slot for which they have
not been scheduled.3. Candidates reporting without admit card and without ID
Proof. 4. Candidates reporting with admit card but without either due
attestation of admit card or ID Proof. However, in all such cases an undertaking in the given formatplaced at Annexure-II will be taken from the student withrecorded reasons of absence or deviation. Such cases will beexamined and suitable cases may be rescheduled if possible onan alternate date & slot at an available centre on productionof required documents.

b) Exceptional cases allowed to appear in the exam in the scheduled slot:If candidate has not brought required original SC, ST, PDcertificate then he will be permitted to appear in theexamination in the same slot after taking an undertaking/ selfdeclaration (format placed at Annexure-III).
C) Registration Desk On the Registration desk, the candidate will be asked to write
his/her details and sign on the Roster. This is the Registrationdesk ROSTER
Volunteers should AVOID crowding at any Registration Desk. Registration Desk personnel would then type the CMAT Roll No. and
PIN No. of the candidate in the Registration Software and retrievethe details of the candidate
Once Roll No. is located in the Registration software, thecandidate details would be displayed on the Registration windowautomatically. At this point, the candidate’s signature andcandidate’s name should be taken on the Registration AttendanceList
Thereafter, Registration Desk personnel would ask the candidate tostand/sit in front of a white background so that the face photo ofthe candidate is captured and stored in the in the RegistrationDatabase. Photo should show the face clearly
Thereafter, the thumb impression of RIGHT hand to be captured andstored in the Registration Database. In case any injury is there onthe right hand thumb of the candidate, then LEFT hand’s thumbimpression to be captured. If the left thumb is being captured,appropriate radio button for left thumb should be clicked.

Registration Desk personnel should verify that both, the photo andthe thumb impression have been captured before letting thecandidate leave the Registration Desk.
Registration desk personnel will write the seat no. and lab no. onthe ADMIT CARD and handover ADMIT CARD attached with otherdocuments to candidate
Volunteer will then guide the candidate to the waiting areaThe computer Labs are scheduled to allow entry to candidates from30 minutes before the test start time. Candidates will wait atdesignated area until then.After the entire registration process is completely over, eachregistration desk personnel to count the number of candidatesregistered with them and to give the number to the Site Supervisor,who in turn will collate the numbers and will prepare the report ofthe number of candidates registered for that batch. This has to bedone for each batch (Registration Summary Report format placed atAnnexure-IV)
D) Post Registration Activity Invigilators of each lab will keep their lab ready with login
screen open on all test nodes. LAB will be completely ready half anhour before start of exam
Invigilators will ensure scratch sheet and briefing instructionsare kept on each desk
At sharp 9:00 am, a long BELL will ring indicating that it is timeto proceed to the lab. An announcement will be made in the waitingroom that the candidates need to move towards the exam lab as pertheir lab no. mentioned on the ADMIT Card. Volunteers will guidethe candidates.
Before entering the lab candidates will be checked and asked tokeep all their belongings outside the test lab.
Volunteers should ensure that books, bags, mobile phones, any otherelectronic items or any other unauthorized material is not allowedinside test venue. Candidates need to keep these items outside thelab at a designated place at their own risk
Volunteer will announce in the waiting area that candidates need tokeep all their belongings outside the lab. Candidates can carryonly their ADMIT CARD with documents attached, if any, an ID Proofand a PEN. All other things need to be kept outside the lab at adesignated place at candidate’s own risk. Message related to thiswill be displayed in Waiting room and at other appropriate places
Even after reading the instructions about keeping belongingsoutside, if any candidate is carrying any material then Invigilatorshould guide the candidate to keep those gadgets outside the examlab at a designated place at their own risk

Volunteers need to ensure that all candidates are seated in theTest Lab and nobody is left at the Registration Desk
Invigilator present in the lab will guide the candidate to his/herseat as per the seat no. mentioned on the ADMIT
Candidate once entered in the Exam Lab would not be allowed to comeout till the end of the exam. In case there is an urgency to visitthe washroom, an escort (office boy or an Invigilator or any otherperson) will accompany the candidate to the washroom.
Once all candidates are inside the lab, Invigilator will ask allcandidates to read the instruction sheet kept at their desks.(Briefing instructions placed at Annexure V)
APTECH Site Supervisor who already has received the exam passwordone hour before the start of exam will share the exam password withall lab Invigilators 15 minutes prior to the start of exam
Once the candidates have gone through the briefing instructions,the Invigilator will announce the exam password 10 minutes beforethe start of exam
Candidates will key in their Login ID (CMAT Roll No.) and Passwordand click on SUBMIT to see the name of their exam. They will clickon the exam name and read the instructions on the screen
At the exam start time a BELL should ring indicating the start timeof the test. Candidates will click on START TEST button to startthe exam
E) Activities during Test Invigilator needs to observe strict ’Silence’ in the Test Lab. Invigilator should walk inside the test lab to ensure that no
candidate indulges in copying and that there is no communication ofany kind among the candidates during the exam.
In case any malpractice or indulgence is observed by theInvigilators the same to be reported in the Undertaking Form placedat Annexure-VI duly filled and signed by the candidates.
Invigilator should get signature from the candidate on a copy ofAttendance Roster. The signatures on the Attendance Roster shouldbe taken only one hour after the commencement of exam. While takingsignature on the Roster, the Invigilator will collect the ADMITCARD. Invigilator will also check candidate’s ID proof if ADMITCARD is not attested.
Summary Attendance Sheet (present /absent) to be prepared by eachInvigilator responsible for a test lab and submit it to APTECH SiteSupervisor within 120 minutes of exam start time. Final SummaryAttendance sheet containing TOTAL SCHEDULED, PRESENT/ABSENT ( labwise ) to be prepared by APTECH Site Supervisor. This count shouldbe tallied with the REGISTERED Candidate Count.(Summary AttendanceList sample copy placed at Annexure VII (a & b))

15 minutes before the exam, a warning BELL will ring indicatingthat last 15 minutes are remaining. Invigilator should announce inthe lab “Last 15 minutes remaining”
At the end of test time, a BELL will ring indicating end of testtime
Invigilator should ensure that all candidates click on SUBMITbutton ONCE (ONE TIME ONLY) while finishing the exams. It will takesome time for exam to get submitted, candidates should waitpatiently.
Invigilator would not answer any doubts or queries related to thecontent of the exam.
Ensure that candidates are provided with drinking water justoutside the lab
F) Post Test Activities Registration Data count should be tallied with the candidate
present count. Invigilators will be given one Big Envelope in which Four Small
Envelopes will be placed for retaining the documents in separateenvelope as mentioned below
i. Envelope 1“Candidate Documents”All candidate documents (ADMIT CARD attached with otherdocuments, undertakings, etc) should be kept in a whiteenvelope. On top of the envelope Invigilator will write“Candidate Documents - venue name_date_batch” time E.g.Candidate documents -IIT_26Sept_9.30am. Separate envelopes willbe made for every batch
ii. Envelope 2“Scratch Sheets”All scratch sheets will be kept in one envelope which will benamed as “Scratch sheets-venue name_date_batch” time E.g.Scratch Sheets– IIT_26Sept_9.30am. Separate envelopes will be made for every batch
iii. Envelope 3“Summary Report”Registration Summary report, Present/Absent summary report willbe kept in one envelope which will be named as “Summary Report-Venue Name_date_batch. E.g. Report-IIT_26Sept_9:30am. Separateenvelopes will be made for every batch
iv. Envelope 4“Attendance Roster”Attendance Roster will be kept in one envelope which will benamed as “Attendance Roster (Lab and Registration Desk)-VenueName_date_Batch E.g. “Attendance Roster (Lab and RegistrationDesk)-IIT_26Sept_9:30 am”. Separate envelopes will be made forevery batch

At the end of each day, all these envelopes need to be collected by theAPTECH Site Supervisor and should be kept in a locker room in lock andkey
13. Pre Test Feedback Visits
Regional Coordinators will arrange Expert Visits for Pretest feedback ofthe Test Centres. One local Expert will be sent at least 2 days beforethe actual date of examination for assessment of the facilities andpreparedness to conduct CMAT exam at the centre. The pre-test visitswill be coordinated by the Regional Coordinators and reports in theprescribed format given at Annexure VIII will be furnished on the same dayto CMAT Cell through e-mail at [email protected] for consolidation. Incase of major lapses the information would be communicated by Observersdirectly to Regional Coordinator or at Head Quarters on telephone number011-23724179 for immediate rectification.

Instructions for invigilators for Briefing the candidates 20 mins beforestarting time of the Test
Dear prospective examination candidates and Future Managers:
Good Morning and Welcome to CMAT 2013!
As a CMAT examination candidate, you must follow these instructionsconscientiously. If you breach any of the instructions, you will bedealt with by the AICTE for breach of Discipline.
Your CMAT Test will start at 9.30 am / 2.30 pm and duration of thetest is: 180 minutes i.e. 3 hours.
The test consists of 100 questions, distributed in four sectionsi.e Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation; LogicalReasoning; General Awareness and Language Comprehension comprisingof 25 questions in each section.
The test comprises of multiple choice Objective Type questionsonly.
Every question answered correctly would carry 4 marks This test carries negative marking also. For every wrong answer, 1
mark will be deducted from the total marks secured on account ofcorrect answers.
You need to enter your CMAT Roll Number on the login screen underthe login box “NAME”
Ten minutes before the test i.e. at 9.20 am /2.20 pm the test paperpassword will be announced.
You will be required to type the password and click on ENTERbutton. This will take you to welcome screen which will be followedby instructions.
You will have to read the instructions from 9.20 am – 9.30 am /2.20 pm to 2.30 pm. At sharp 9.30 am / 2.30 pm, you will have toclick the START TEST button to start your test
Your testing window will be open for 180 mins from the time ofstarting the test by pressing the enter button The 'Timer' of thetest starts only when “Start Test” button is clicked.
The candidates SHOULD NOT click on the option "Show list of anyunfinished assessment" while logging in for the first time.
In event of the test being disrupted for any reason, the candidateshould immediately inform the invigilator. The invigilator willhelp the candidate to re-login to the test by checking on "Show

list of any unfinished assessment" on login page within thestipulated test time.

Time Left - Displays time remaining to complete the test
The questions on the computer screen will appear one at a time. Bulleted number list of all questions will appear at the right side
of the screen. Keep a close watch on 'Time Left' while appearing for the test. It is possible to review the answered as well as the un-answered
questions. If you wish to unmark an answered question, click the Deselect
button. The option gets deselected. Use 'Submit' only when you want to exit/complete the test. The "Submit" button will be enabled ONLY when you view all the
questions at least once during the test. The test is automatically stopped if the time allotted for the test
is over. No breaks will be allowed during the test You can leave the examination hall only after completion of the
test i.e., after three hours is over. You cannot leave theexamination hall before three hours even if you have submitted yourpaper
Candidates are not allowed to bring scratch paper into the examroom. Blank paper is provided for scratch work in the exam room.
No unauthorized material such as cell phones, calculator, logtables, book, paper, document or picture is allowed inside theexamination hall. Bags, waist pouches, ear or headphones are alsonot permitted to be brought into the examination hall. For security

reasons, candidates must leave their bags outside the examinationhalls.
You are advised not to leave any valuables in your bag. No additional time will be given to candidates who are absent for
part of the exam, Do not look around at other candidates as there will be
surveillance cameras that record both audio and video. Anysuspicious or disruptive behavior could lead to your test beinginvalidated by the AICTE.
For any issues during the test, raise your hand to notify theinvigilator. A technician is also available here on stand-by at thecentre.
In case of any major disruptions, rest assured that if you are aregistered candidate, you will get to test within the testingwindow.
All scratch paper must be returned to the invigilator after thetest. Any attempt to take away the scratch papers out of testcenters will be considered as disruptive behavior and liable fordisqualification.
At the conclusion of the examination, candidates must remain seated andmust not communicate with one another while their calculation rough sheets are being collected.
