Join me in Monument Valley for an introduction into Navajo culture and

I will show you Monument Valley’s secrets, as you take in the tribal park’s landscapes during a ride onboard our all-terrain vehicles. I myself, have been guiding travellers across the land and sharing Navajo stories with them for over 20 years.

Meet members of my tribe and learn more about our daily lives. We’ll talk to you about how we maintain our traditions in a modern society, and I’ll introduce you to weavers who will show you the methods we use to make our traditional rugs and other products.

Discover more about our traditional dress and the stories behind it. This includes the “tsiiyéél” or hair bun, which, to us, represents the identity of each tribe member and can even reflect their way of life and who they are as a person.

Turquoise, or “Doo tl’ izh ii” is also significant in my culture. It is supposed to bring good fortune and protect our people from evil. Historically it was used to protect warriors in battle. Today, we still treasure the gemstone for its beauty and good luck. It is a typical gift to exchange among my people and you will see it incorporated in the jewellery we sell.

And of course, how could I forget the influence the area has had on the Western movie scene? John Ford shot nine movies here, among them “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” and “Stagecoach” in 1938. My calling has always been to work with people. So, after leaving my

career in the airline industry, it felt right to continue working in travel. I’ve been with Insight Vacations, where I lead trips across the USA and Canada, for over seven years.

My role as a Travel Director allows me to connect with likeminded individuals, from all over the world. I show them new destinations and help them make memorable experiences that last a lifetime. For a lot of guests, they’re on a trip that they’ve been dreaming about for a long time, so to help bring this dream to life is very special.

My favourite time of year to travel is October. I love to see guests fall in love with nature on our fall foliage holidays, in New England and Eastern Canada. At this time, these destinations are lit up by colourful orange and red hues.

The pretty fishing town of Bar Harbor is particularly beautiful. I urge everyone to try its delicious, fresh seafood, and in summer, to take a walk along the shoreline at sunset.

Not only is it important for guests to connect with each other, but to connect with the locals they meet along the way. This includes a chef at a cooking school in

Ottawa. He has a great way of getting everyone to interact, as they learn to prepare traditional Canadian cuisine with him, before trying it out for themselves.

I think guided vacations are a great way to make new friends. They appeal to people who want to travel and truly live in the moment, without having to question logistics. We take care of everything for them, so they simply get to sit back, enjoy themselves and their surroundings.

If you’re wondering what it’s really like travelling with Insight Vacations, how better to find out than from recent guests?

In New York we also had the pleasure of eating in someone’s home which was such a great way to experience life like a local.

Barry and I travelled to Canada to visit our son and his family who live in

Vancouver. We’d never been to Canada before, and to make the most of our trip, we decided to extend it with an Insight Vacation’s holiday “The Best of Eastern Canada and USA”. We’d travelled to Europe before with Insight and loved every trip.

The Insight trip took us to some of the most unique places in Eastern Canada and the USA that we wouldn’t have been able to see otherwise. Timed perfectly we happened to be at the right place at the right time to see the changing of the guard in Ottawa with their beautiful red jackets.

When we started in Toronto, we went to Niagara Falls and that was so interesting. We went to two sides of the falls and on the boat that takes you into the falls. We also visited Little Niagara which was just so quaint and picturesque - I tell everyone I know to go there.

Our favourite place was Washington DC, there’s so much to see and do! You see a lot on television about the political side of the town in the White House, but we just loved the city and we could’ve stayed for so much longer. The Smithsonian Museum was unbelievable, and we chose to do the illumination tour and dinner where we could see all of the city magnificently lit up.

We also loved Montreal, Philadelphia, Boston and New York. In New York, we did a cruise on the Hudson river, looking

back at the skyline of the city, it was so modern in contrast to the historic French architecture in Eastern Canada. In New York we also had the pleasure of eating in someone’s home which was such a great way to experience life like a local.

With our Travel Director at the helm, we found the whole experience seamless. When it rains, umbrellas magically appear. When you’re feeling a little peckish, they’ve organised some tasty local treats to try. If it’s a special occasion they know just how to make it special. When we travel with Insight, it is our holiday, one that we want to sit back and enjoy. We didn’t have to drive on the other side of the road, so we had no stress of following maps or trying to find parking, we could sit back and relax. My husband loves the extra leg room in the coach, it makes all the difference.

We’ve now travelled with Insight Vacations on 18 occasions and look forward to hitting our 20th trip soon!

DAY 16 JACKSON AND GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK. Take in Temple Square and the State Capitol building, before heading north to historic Jackson.

DAY 17 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK. Wake up to a mountainous view like no other and witness the striking Grand Tetons thrust skyward 6,562 feet (2,000 metres) from the valley fl oor. Th is morning, you have the opportunity to partake in an optional scenic fl oat trip¬ down the Snake River inside Grand Teton National Park.

★ Continue to Yellowstone, the world's fi rst National Park. Known for its unique geothermal activity, spectacular landscapes and abundant wildlife. Tonight you'll stay in the National Park Lodges, allowing you to experience the park after hours, in its natural glory. (B)

DAY 18 · RELAXED START GEYSERS AND COLOURFUL MUDPOTS. Walk among the rainbow tinted hot springs and watch the erupting geysers with your Travel Director as you take in the history of the park.

★ Catch the colourful bubbling mud pots and observe Old Faithful geyser shooting water over 120 feet (37 metres) into the air. Th e Upper Geyser Basin boasts the highest concentration of spouting geysers, hot springs and steaming fumaroles in the world.

You'll behold the powerful roar of Lower Yellowstone Falls, before heading back to your lodge. (B)

DAY 19 THE RANCH AT UCROSS. Continue on to the Wild West town of Cody.

★ Learn more about America's great Western legends at the Buff alo Bill Centre . End the day in Clearmont, Wyoming where you'll check in to your abode for the night.

DAY 20 INTO THE BLACK HILLS.

★ Begin your day with a scenic horseback ride¬. If you prefer, perhaps go fi shing or merely relax and take in your beautiful surroundings.

★ Make your way to Devils Tower, an astounding geological feature that protrudes out of the surrounding the Black Hills. Th is symbolic landmark is considered sacred to the Lakota and other tribes. Experience Spearfi sh Canyon, a favoured spot among wildlife enthusiasts. (B)

DAY 21 CUSTER AND THE WILD, WILD WEST. A day for those looking to explore the Wild West, try to spot pronghorn antelope as you cross the great high plains to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

★ You'll have the opportunity to join Kevin Costner's Original Deadwood Tour, while a Local Expert will talk about the days of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, who made this once lawless town famous during the Gold Rush of the 1870s. Continue on to Custer State Park, renowned for its beautiful landscape and abundant wildlife. (B)

DAY 22 THE MONUMENTS OF THE BLACK HILLS. Th e heart of the Black Hills off ers spectacular representations of the nation's past.

★ Travel to iconic Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Here, carvings of Presidents Washington, Jeff erson, Lincoln and Roosevelt overlook the landscape. Th ere will be ample time to explore on your own.

👁 Afterwards, you'll head to Crazy Horse Memorial, which is dedicated to all Native Americans. An exclusive Insight Experience awaits as you are taken up to the 641 feet (195 metres) long and 563 feet (172 metres) tall sculpture to stand face to face with the world's largest mountain carving.
