AIGAM - Associazione Italiana Gordon per l’Apprendimento Musicale -(Italian Gordon Association for Music Learning) - is the only associationofficially recognized by Edwin E. Gordon for the teaching of Music LearningTheory in Italy.

Since May 2000, the year of its foundation, the association has conducted,both in Italy and abroad, many activities and projects for the promotion ofmusic education and the development of children’s musicality starting fromearly childhood, through:

1. Training and Updating courses, Workshops and Conferences formusic teachers, musicians and teachers in general

2. Concerts for early chilhood, for children and their families, for couplesexpecting babies and for adults

3. Music courses for children4. Publications on Music Learning Theory5. Projects in collaboration with Local Authorities, and Institutions

AIGAM is an Accredited Authority for the Training of school personnel byMIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research) and is twinned withthe GIML – The Gordon Institute for Music Learning USA.

In collaboration with Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz(Germany) it is organizing a professional Course on Educational

concerts according to the Music Learning Theory by Edwin E. Gordonentitled Konzertpädagogik auf der Basis von Edwin E. Gordon's MusicLearning Theory for members of various German orchestras.

The concerts have been realized also in collaboration with the BerlinerPhilharmoniker, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz,the Philharmonischen Orchester Regensburg, I Musici, The Children'sTheatre of Shanghai, The Edward Said National Conservatory ofMusic in Palestine etc.

AIGAM promotes, in Italy and abroad, music courses aimed atchildren starting from the neonatal age. The courses are intendedto encourage the harmonious growth of the children through thedevelopment of their music aptitude.

Classes are taught by AIGAM teachers who, from 2000, haveattended the AIGAM National Training Courses and have beenprofessionally active in early childhood, general music andinstrumental music education, and operate in various Italian andEuropean cities applying Edwin E. Edwin E. Gordon, Ph.D.Edwin E. Gordon is known throughout the world as a preeminent researcher,teacher, author, editor, and lecturer in the field of music education. Since 1997he has been Distinguished Professor in Residence at the University of SouthCarolina, following his retirement as the Carl E. Seashore Professor ofResearch in Music Education at Temple University in Philadelphia.

In addition to advising Ph.D. candidates in music education, Dr. Gordon hasdevoted many years to teaching music to preschool children. Throughextensive research, Professor Gordon has made major contributions to thestudy of music aptitudes, stages and types of audiation, music learning theory,and rhythm in movement and music, to name just a few areas.

Before devoting his life to the field of music education, he earned bachelor’sand master’s degrees in string bass performance from the Eastman Schoolof Music and played string bass with the Gene Krupa band. He want on toearn a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1958.

Professor Gordon and his work have been portrayed nationally andinternationally on the NBC Today Show, in the New York Times, in USA Today,and in a variety of European and Asian publications.Edwin E. Gordon is AIGAM Honorary President.
