General arts and Science

OvErviEWPrepare yourself for university or college admission. Our General Arts and Science programs offer you the chance to explore your interests, gain additional knowledge in specific subject areas, upgrade your marks and develop academic skills before applying for university or college programs.

You will receive support from a dedicated team of faculty and advisors, who will guide you along your pathway. Our classes are small so you will get personal attention and one-on-one advising.

You can take any of our one- or two-semester (graduate with a certificate) or four-semester (graduate with a diploma) programs in either the arts or sciences stream.

Our COmmitmEnt tO yOuTo prepare you for success, our programs are designed to meet your needs in English, math, humanities and sciences. A personal student profile is drawn from past education experiences, future program goals, and your assessment scores. Our aim is to help you develop required skills, as well as support growth in areas in which you have already demonstrated strength. The flexibility of this program allows you to change direction and plans as you develop skills in certain areas and/or recognize weaknesses in others.

Program Overview English for Academic Purposes is an intensive, full-time program for students for whom English is a second or additional language. This post-secondary certificate program can help you build your English language skills for success in college, university or your career.

The program emphasizes highly effective academic communication skills by focusing on four skill areas – reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as academic study skills. You will study in a supportive academic environment and build your language skills though communicative activities, practical exercises, group work, presentations and assignments.

The program is fully accredited by Languages Canada, Canada’s premier language organization. This means that the program has met rigorous standards in terms of curriculum, teacher qualifications, student services and administration.

Our faculty are very qualified, dedicated ESL teaching professionals who provide high quality instruction plus support, encouragement and guidance to our students.

You will study in a college environment with access to resources and services such as tutoring, Let’s Talk (conversation practice groups), counselling, the library and the computer labs. Academic advising is provided to help you make a smoother transition to college or university programs.

Students who achieve high grades in Level 3 are considered to have met the College’s English language requirement for most Centennial College programs. In addition, Level 3 students earn a college credit that they can apply to future study.
