University- Brief History

The Sponsoring Society The University has been promoted by Subharti K.K.B. Charitable Trust which made its debut in year 1991 with a noble mission of spreading quality Education and Health Services in and around Meerut region. The trust/education society is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1958. The founding fathers of the sponsoring body realized that higher educational facilities in this region are not adequate for a huge client group of students.

Hence, the Trust decided to establish the academic and professional colleges in Meerut initially which conducts Degree Courses. Having realized that education for this region is absolutely essential for the development of the society, the trust took upon them to promote academic as well as professional education, as front runner in the region.

The Sponsoring Society

The University - Vision & Mission Swami Vivekanand University is a statutory University, established under the Swami Vivekanand Subharti Vishwavidyala Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam, 2008.  The University has been recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

Vision To develop a Centre for Excellence for technical, professional, academic education and research, at par with national and international standards.

MissionTo develop the framework for effectively conducting various educational and research programs of the highest standards, so as to produce confident, self-reliant, and responsible youth for the society and eminent professionals for government, industry and business.

ObjectivesTo provide value based higher education and create knowledge driven society for continuous search of knowledge.

To offer conducive environment for pursuing research and practical studies with market driven orientation.

To give students new ideas, fresh visions, pragmatic ambitions and enhance competencies for success in the ever changing business environment.

To prepare and assist students in improving their career prospects through career and placement counseling, on-the-job training, industrial visits, presentations, group discussions, placement support etc.

To promote and practice convenient distance education concept in India to bring in more students into the fold of education.

To spread job oriented education in rural and tribal areas with the help of latest audio-visual communication and use of information technology.

To encourage entrepreneurship in Education and contribute meaningfully in the Economic Empowerment of the society

Objectives

The Vice-ChancellorAn alumnus of Patna University, he joined as Assistant Professor (Political Science) in January, 1964 and later joined Indian Police Services in 1966.

He served as a police officer in various capacities covering length and breadth of UP.

He served as the Vice-Chancellor of Agra University during the period (1996 to 2000). During his illustrious tenure, he benchmarked e-learning system in the campus and in the affiliated colleges.

Besides he computerized Examination, Accounts and other establishments of the University and set up many new colleges in the campus.

He was deputed by Govt. of India as Officer of Special Duty in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi from 1985-88 and made in charge of the Development Planning of this old University and the execution of plans.

He also served in the Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Commerce (Govt. of India) from 1988 to 1993.

He was nominated by the Hon’ble President of India, to the Executive Council of AMU in 1999 and to the Executive Council of Jamia Millia Islamia University in 2004.

The Vice-Chancellor

He has authored many books on Education and has been invited to Educational Seminars globally. He has also been visiting faculty in several reputed Universities of foreign countries.

He has been putting emphasis on Value based education. One of his books “Islamic Education: Redefinition of Aims and Methodology” was very well received all over the world.

Honorable Vice Chancellor has been invited to QS-in Conversation Seminar to be held at Brunei-Darussalam from 14-16th October,2014.

Dr.D.K.Giri, Director Accreditation and Professor of Education, participated in an International Academic Collaboration Program held at Paris, France from 11th September-16th September, 2014.

Ex-Capt(Mrs) Geeta Parwanda participated in an International Conference held at National University of Singapore from15-18th January,2014.

Dr.N.K.Ahuja-Professor (Emirates) and Director-General Administration visited Malaysia and Dubai for participating in International Academia-Industry exchange program in June and September,2014

AchievementsThe University has received 24 Research Projects from reputed National and International organizations, such as ICMER, WHO, UGC, DST & MOEF etc.

35 Students brought laurels to the University for their excellent performance in Various National/Regional events in individual category.

45 inter institutional award have been achieved by our students in group category.

102 teachers are awarded for their contributions in different areas

Total 345 students of 6 foreign countries are studying at the University

AchievementsThe University has signed MoU with INFLIBNET-UGC, University of Cincinnati, USA, IBM, Pearson, CMC-Ltd etc. to improve the standard of Education and Research.

The faculty members have published 2432 research papers in last 5 years, 563 of them are published in high impact factor Research Journals. The total citation has been crossed 4563, h-index i-10 is recorded as 114 and 103 respectively (source: Google Scholar).

The University has implemented ERP system and University Social Responsibility service.

AchievementsThe ERP has initiated to make all official correspondence paperless, thus contributing towards environmental protection.

The University has established good governance and e-governance in all aspects of its operation. Transparency is the brevity of the operation.

About 50% of teachers have completed more than 10 years and 67% of the non teaching staffs have completed more than 16 years in this organization. This reveals the satisfaction index of the manpower..

The University provides various type of scholarship to meritorious students as well as students belong to low socio economic status. Free education is provided to the wards of martyrs. The University campus is free from any type of ragging and sexual harassment. Not a single case, in this regard has been reported since the inception of the University.

AchievementsThe University campus is secular in all aspects. It does not encourage any type of religious vandalism and take special measures in this regard.

The University has constituted Internal Quality Assurance Cell to ensure accountability and ethics in all aspects of campus life.

The University has invited 198 renowned academicians, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs etc, to address our students.

The University has established J&K Cell, for providing quality education to the youth of J & K as an important initiative of Govt. of India to make them employable and citizenship training.

Rs. 2 crore has been earmarked as annual research fund for the University.

AchievementsThe University has organized 7 National events and 4 international events and many regional events in last 3 years.

The community medicine departments of Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dental Sciences have organized 365 Community Medicine Camp and Mobile Dental check up camp.

The OPD of Subharti Hospital, attached to Faculty of Medicine is treating 2500 outdoor patients on and average per day.

The Directorate of Distance Education, a constituent of the University, has been providing quality education to 19,045 students, who cannot enroll themselves in regular programs.

The University has its own state of the art TV Station and Press.

The University has opened a Primary school for the children of the workers in the construction sites of the University. The children are being provided with free and compulsory education.
