WHAT SHOULD YOU INCLUDE IN YOUR PROPOSAL?

This varies for each title but you should consider the following:

• Covering letter – Explain why the market needs your book. Include a brief competitor review that covers other titles in the area. Don’t be put off if there are other titles, we will be looking to see what makes your title unique. Detail who you think the target market is and how large you think it is. Think about the time it will take you to write the title and give a realistic delivery date for the manuscript

• Synopsis – Describe the aim and scope of the title. Summarise the approach you will take and the content to be covered. Include a draft table of contents and if you are intending to have contributing authors, any suggestions you may have for them. Indicate how in-depth you intend the title to be. This section is the heart of your proposal so ensure that you have shown why your title has the potential to be successful

• Sample Chapters – A draft chapter included with a proposal would be an advantage as this will give us a clear indication of writing style and content level. The chapter does not need to be a finished version, but should cover the essence of your style and approach and include any features that you intend to use within the book

• Curriculum vitae – Provide details on your professional experience, as well as any previous publishing experience. Don’t worry if you haven’t had any previous publishing experience, this information will highlight that we need to give you more support during the process

• Additional material – Include any other supporting material that you think would be useful in demonstrating the market for your title

Lex Journal

Students of Public International Law require access to an overwhelming variety of materials which are not always easy to obtain. Cases and Materials on International Law draws together in one volume an exhaustive selection of cases, materials and background information on the subject, which is supplemented by authoritative commentary and expert analysis.

• Latest cases from the International Court of Justice, including the Advisory Opinion on the Chagos Archipelago

• The use of force in Syria

• Developments in the UN human rights system, including the first cases from the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

Clarkson & Keating: Criminal Law

CLARKSON AND KEATING: CRIMINAL LAW examines the main principles and rules of criminal law and explores the theoretical bases upon which they are founded in an easily digestible text. The work combines the best features of a standard “textbook” with those of a “cases and materials” book to provide guidance and direction on the law, whilst presenting a substantial amount of key primary material selected from a diversity of sources.

• Includes extracts from cases and academic articles, carefully edited to make them accessible to students

• Draws on non-legal contextual material to provide a social context to the law rather than a mere analysis of the rules

• Examines the relationship between substantive criminal law and penology

• Highlights how criminal law is inextricably linked to fundamental issues of moral philosophy and penology

• Update to the law of dishonesty in theft and fraud in Ivey v Genting Casinos (UK)  Ltd and R v Barton and Booth

• New section on criminal damage to take account of the SQE curriculum

• New section on developments to the law on coercive and controlling behaviour

CLARKSON AND KEATING: CRIMINAL LAW is an essential text for all those

following criminal law or related topics as part of their degree.

Clarkson & Keating: Criminal Law

CLARKSON AND KEATING: CRIMINAL LAW examines the main principles and rules of criminal law and explores the theoretical bases upon which they are founded in an easily digestible text.
