CLONTARF ABORIGINAL COLLEGE

PR AYER Loving God,

Bless the traditional owners of this land, the Noongar people.

Thank you for our friends and families.

Thank you for the opportunities that Clontarf Aboriginal College provides us.

We pray that students here can always be proud

of who they are.

Please help us to make the right choices and keep

us safe from harm.

Help us to be like Edmund Rice, the founder of the

Christian Brothers.

He spent his life helping others by empowering them

through education.

May our College Houses remind us of the example set by our Elders and unite us in strength.

Bless the Christian Brothers who continue to help people

all over the world.

Bless the people of different cultures who gather at

Clontarf to teach and learn.

Help us to accept each other and to be proud of our diversity.

We pray for the past, present and future leaders of our communities.

We ask this through Jesus our brother and friend.

Amen

SACRAMENTS

SACRAMENTS- There are 7 sacraments in the Catholic Church. Each sacrament is an opportunity for us to draw closer to God and experience God in our lives. The 7 sacraments are: BAPTISM- Entering into the family of God. Water is poured over the forehead 3 times and the person is baptised “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. RECONCILIATION- When we confess our sins and restore our relationship with God EUCHARIST- Holy Communion- when we eat the bread and drink the wine. It is our spiritual food. CONFIRMATION- When we confirm the vows from our Baptism, receiving the Holy Spirit to help guide us. MARRIAGE- When a man and a woman join together to become Husband and Wife for the rest of their lives- in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. HOLY ORDERS- When a man decides and prepares to become a Priest, they are ordained and receive Holy Orders. ANOINTING OF THE SICK- Involving Reconciliation, Eucharist and Anointing (blessing), this sacrament is received when someone is unwell, close to dying or going through difficult times

EUCHARIST The Eucharist is also called Holy Communion. The Eucharist was instituted by Jesus on the night before he died at the Last Supper. Jesus shares his body in the form of bread and wine and offers himself as the sacrifice to renew the relationship between God and people. After Jesus died, Apostles continued to celebrate the teachings of Jesus. They met with other Christians to ‘break bread’. From that time on the celebration of the Eucharist has been continued as the centre of the Church’s life. The words that a priest says today during the Eucharist Prayer reflect the words and actions during the Last Supper as recorded in the Gospels. The principal gift of the Eucharist is union with Jesus. As Jesus prays and offers himself to the Father, people participating in the Eucharist do this with Jesus. Through the Lord’s Supper believers are nourished and strengthened by receiving Jesus as the ‘bread of life’. From him they draw life and are strengthened. They are empowered to build their relationship with God. The Eucharist is the most powerful prayer in which a Christian can participate. Union with Jesus in the Eucharist enables believers to offer their lives to God. The Eucharist is the “source and summit of Christian life.

What is another name for the Eucharist? _____________________________________________________ What must you have to be able to live? _____________________________________________________ What happens if you do not have this? _____________________________________________________ How does this relate to the Eucharist and our relationship with Jesus? _____________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________
