Topic – Journal Entries - important transaction
Q.1. Pass Journal Entries
1) Goods for ₹ 50,000 were destroyed by fire.
2) Goods worth ₹ 18,000 were distributed as free samples and ₹ 20,000 were
given away as charity in cash.
3) Goods worth ₹ 25,000 and cash ₹ 40,000 were taken away by the proprietor
for his personal use.
4) Goods worth ₹ 20,000 and cash ₹ 5,000 were given away as charity.
5) Cash ₹ 1,00,000 were stolen from the Iron Safe of the trader.
Q.2. Pass Journal Entries
a. Sold goods to Brijesh of the list price of ₹ 10,000 at trade discount of
5%. Received full payment in cash.
b. Goods given away as charity ₹ 1,000.
c. Charge interest on capital of ₹ 5,00,000 @ 7% p.a.
d. Outstanding wages ₹ 3,000.
e. ₹ 5,000 due from Sunny are now bad debts.
f. ₹50,000 cash sales (of goods costing ₹ 40,000)
Q.3. Pass Journal Entries
1) Proprietor withdrew for private use ₹ 10,000 from bank.

3) Purchased machinery for cash ₹ 1,50,000 and paid ₹ 2,000 on its
installation.

5) Prepaid salary ₹ 2,000.
6) Kapil who owed us ₹ 20,000 becomes insolvent and nothing is received
from his estate.

1) Out of Insurance premium paid this year, ₹ 15,000 is related to next year.
2) Credit purchases from Ram & Co. for ₹ 50,000. Cash discount will be
received at 5% on payment of bill within 10 days.
3) Cash paid to Ram & Co. and discount availed of.
4) PaidPaid Income Tax ₹ 20,000 by cheque.
5) GoodsGoods costing ₹ 2,00,000 sold for cash at a profit of 10%.

was deposited into the proprietor’s personal bank account
April 20.Sold goods to Gaurav costing ₹ 1,00,000 at a profit of 40% and allowed
him 10% trade discount and paid for cartage ₹ 3,000 not to be charged from him
April 24.Placed an order with Rudra & Co. for supply of goods of ₹ 80,000 and a
cheque for 40% amount is sent to them as an advance.

Q.1. Vikas Ltd. has an authorised capital of `40,00,000 divided into
4,00,000 equity Shares of `10 each. Out of these, the company
invited applications for 3,00,000 equity shares. The public applied for
2,80,000 shares and all the money was duly received. Show how
Share Capital will appear in the Balance Sheet to the Company.
Also prepare notes to accounts.
Q.2. P Ltd. issued 50,000 equity shares of ₹. 10/- each at a premium of ₹.
2/- per share payable as follows:
₹. 3/- on application
₹. 6/- on the allotment
₹. 3/- on the first and final call
All the shares were applied for and duly allotted. Pass necessary
journal entries.
Q.3. An Ltd. issued 20,000 shares of ₹.10/- each, payable ₹. 4/- on the
application, ₹. 3/- on allotment and ₹. 3/- on the first and final call.
Applications were received for 25,000 shares. The company ascertained
to allot 20,000 shares on the pro rata basis and surplus of application
money was utilised the allotment money due.
Pass the necessary journal entries presuming that the amounts due were
received.
Q.4. Rama Co. issued 50,000 shares of `10 each payable as follows:
`3 on Application; `
3 on Allotment;

` 2 on Final Call.
All the shares were subscribed and allotted. Give Journal entries and
show the Share Capital in the Balance Sheet assuming that all sums
have been duly received. Expenses on issue of shares amounted to
Rs.10,000.
Q.5. Z Ltd. was registered with an authorised capital of `60,00,000 divided
in 60,000 equity shares of ` 100 each. Company issued 25,000
equity shares at a premium of `20 per share, payable as follows : `30
on Application; `45 on Allotment (including premium); `20 on first call
and `25 on Second and Final Call. All shares were subscribed and
all the money was duly received. Share issue expenses amounted to
`40,000 which were fully written off against Securities Premium.
Prepare necessary' Journal Entries and Bank Account in the books of the
Company.
Q.6. Pushkar Ltd. invited applications for issuing 5,00,000 equity shares
of ` 10 each at a premium of `3 per share. The whole amount was
payable on application. The issue was fully subscribed.Pass
necessary journal entries.
Q.7. Kanpur Gas Ltd. issued 40,000 equity shares of `10 each at a
premium of `1 per share. Amounts were payable as follows:
`2.50 on Application;
`4.50 on Allotment (including premium);
`2 on First Call and `2 on Final Call.
Applications were received for 37,000 shares.
Give Journal Entries assuming that all sums have been received on due
dates.
Q.8. Vimal Ltd. purchased machinery of `9,90,000 from Kamal Ltd. The
payment to Kamal Ltd. was made by issuing equity shares of `100
each. Pass the necessary Journal entries in the books of Vimal Ltd.
for purchase of machinery and the issue of shares when
(i) Shares were issued at par.
(ii) Shares were issued at 25% premium
Q.9. Pass journal entries for the following:
(i) X Ltd. purchased Land and Building from R. Sundram for `5,00,000
payable in fully paid shares of `100 each at a premium of 25%.

India as underwriting commission.
Q.10. Tagore Ltd. purchased a running business from Tulsi Bros, for a
sum of `48,00,000 payable by the issue of fully paid equity shares of
`20 each at a premium of 20%. The assets and liabilities consisted
of the following:
