About Us 2018 | 76 | About Us 2018

It is a challenging world that we live in today, a world full of innovations, in technological, social, virtual as well as the economic sectors. Education imparted in academic institutions is an active tool to enable students to cope with the rapid, changing world around them by imbibing knowledge and values both - a culmination of which will certainly bring forth worthy human beings and leaders of tomorrow.

It has been the dream and vision of my philanthropic father Late Shri Niranjanlal Dalmia to create an educational institute that encourages the importance of imbibing knowledge and wisdom, rather than just good marks in exams. We, at N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies & Research, strive to emulate his ideas and work toward realizing his dreams of imparting high-quality education and empowering our management students to write their individual success stories.

I trust our students will rise to be the winners in this competitive world and embark on a journey to become the ideal citizens of the country, preserving our values and shouldering the responsibilities of life with confidence, impeccable character and a discerning judgement.

About Us 2018 | 98 | About Us 2018

The N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research established in 1995, enjoys a huge reputation among business and management circles. When we started off in 1997, we were ranked amongst the top 700 B-Schools all over India. Now, we are amongst the Top 25 B-Schools of India which is no mean achievement.

Good leadership facilitates individuals, companies and industries to think differently about how to do business for the benefit of the stakeholders and the society. It brings about changes in behaviour, creates new opportunities, inspires decisive action, motivates excellence and represents the best of essential leadership skills.

Quality leadership begins with an idea that is communicated and embraced by others. In our management school, we train students to think independently and nurture ideas. This process results in grooming the future leaders. When this exercise is driven by values and ethics, young students graduating from our business school, with leadership qualities will go a long way in building a civilized, prosperous and a progressive society.

I welcome you to our institute and wish you all the best for your future.

A special thrust is being given to action research, management consulting &

executive education.

Our students, alumni and faculty are fearless in thinking about opportunity and innovation – in experimenting and discovering, in being a little non-conformist.

Our faculty has developed game-changing initiatives to help transform modern day management by infusing our classrooms with analytical rigour and bold thinking, challenging students to re-frame their reference points. Whether as part of communities, businesses or large corporates, our alumni are pragmatic and action-oriented. They drive change.

Thinking fearlessly is the freedom to think aloud, to think without judgement. It’s the exploration that allows you to go into areas you couldn’t go into the real world – the academic version of cave diving.

Every junior has to go through a new bond making, emotionally and physically tiring, memory making of an event! At the end of which, every student who walks through the gates of our institute would remember these 2 days as the best of their MBA lives. Also it gives the seniors a responsibility to make all this happen.

The run-up to the main event is filled with many extended college hours, planning, conceptualizing and executing. The two days of the main event are both exciting and nostalgic. The seniors re-live the best two days of their MBA lives from the eyes of the juniors this time around and leave no stones unturned in the fun they have carrying out the events for the juniors. The excitement behind all the performances, the close call between contestants for winning the prize, and the tension during revealing of the winners are the feelings that float amongst everyone, including the faculty.

Aakarshan 2017 was a grand event, which turned into a prelude for the freshly brewed batch of students at our institute, as to how MBA is not just studies, but also about fun, teamwork, and the competitive spirit. visiting raymondIn India, the pioneer in fuelling the taste of suits to every gentleman of India has to be Raymond.

As business students, an industrial visit to the factory of Raymond was an exciting thing. The factory situated in Vapi, Maharashtra, boasts of being the most technologically advanced clothing factory for men’s formals in all of India. The initial induction by the factory staff through their presentation of the factory and its history and geography was exciting and enlightening altogether. It helped create further interest in students who may, possibly, had not been too interested in Raymond prior to the presentation. The students were escorted into the factory, beginning with the storage room where the raw materials for the cloth are stored. The insight into the complete working of the factory was more interesting than the students had expected and the knowledge the students acquired about the working of this section of the textile industry is something that won’t be forgotten by the students.

Sparssh- currently known as ‘My Social Responsibility’ (MSR), is a social initiative that was started by the NLDIMSR students of 2011 batch, to provide an opportunity to students of the institute to help the needy and the underprivileged sections of the society.

The students of Sparssh (MSR) Committee, with the funds collected from the faculty and students, have organized various drives like distribution of educational kits to needy students, 'Joy of Giving’ weeks. The proceeds are donated to various NGOs in Mumbai.

In November 2016, a need was felt to work on a larger canvas and work for the holistic development of a tribal village. Therefore December 2016, NLDIMSR adopted Kondgaon Village in Vikramgad Taluka of Palghar District, a 100% tribal village of over 3500 people, for its empowerment and development. Many interventions in the areas of health and sanitation, education, environment, skill development and women & child welfare have been planned by the students under the guidance of a senior faculty member and are being implemented by them as a part of their experiential learning.

This collaboration is expected to serve the twin purposes of touching and enriching the lives of the people in this needy village as well as provide valuable rural exposure to the MBA students of our institute through its social responsibility programme.

TRIP TO KONDHGAON The first visit of the students to the village of Kondgaon was on 6th January, 2017. By spreading the awareness on the use of toilets, our students encouraged the villagers to construct toilets under the Prime Minister’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ programme and thanks to their dedicated efforts and the cooperation of the village community; in the next 6 months the percentage of people resorting to open defecation dropped down. With the active support of the Village Sarpanch Mrs Manju Kombh and the Village Development Officer Mr Manoj Prajapati, we sponsored and conducted a medical camp for the villagers on 22nd April, 2017 at the village school. With the services of a paediatrician, gynaecologist and a general physician, it not only provided consultation and medicines to the 250 villagers; especially the women and children but also it provided an opportunity to the students to organize such camps and reach out to the people in their time of need.

On 15th July, 2017, the new batch of PGDM students of 2017-19 had a fruitful visit to Kondgaon village as a part of their rural immersion programme. During their visit, they interacted with the school children and distributed school bags and stationery to over 350 Zilla Parishad children in 6 ZP schools in the Group Gram Panchayat of Kondgaon-Vilset. The joy that they saw on the faces of children while distributing the school bags and the stationery and the feeling of fulfilment that they experienced while interacting with them and providing them with educational aids was inexplicable.

A beginning was also made for the tree plantation drive that will be further continued by the school children with plants provided by the institute under its MSR programme.

I take a great privilege that I have been invited to deliver a very prestigious lecture by N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research. Prestigious because I am going to talk about an institution called Babuji! What is remarkable about Babuji is, he rose under such circumstances where he realizes the value of

education, and that makes him an institution wizard with strong fundamentals base. He did not just rise himself in this activity but gave an opportunity for others to rise too. Being a scientist, I would like to relate the success mantra with an equation. The most powerful equation in the world is E = F, where E is Education and F is Future. The sheer power of attaining better future is gaining the right education. Thus if we talk about innovation with flourishing industries and environment around, education version should also enhance. The inclusion of digital technologies in today’s world has changed the concept of 'Right to Education' to 'Right Education', wherein our brains are not just storage devices but a processor with problem-solving ability. The future for NLDIMSR is very bright with their initiative in getting into emerging technology programs. As I always say imagination has no limits, it is going to drive you in attaining desired goals. So keep dreaming and educating yourself with the changing trends and create great future.

Padma Vibhushan,

Dr R A Mashelkar, FRS National

Research Professor & President,

Global Research Alliance

I recall with pleasure my interactions with the students & faculty members of N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research. On that occasion I found the students to be very interested and incisive in their comments on their message that I tried to convey which was ‘Change is essential if the country has to progress in the future.’ I am sure with such enthusiasm of our future generation, the country will progress.

Dr J J Irani, Director - TATA Sons Ltd

To succeed in a career in stock markets, one needs a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. While most MBA's demonstrate considerable theoretical grounding, they are more often than not lacking in the practical aspects. With MBA's from N L Dalmia, we have seen that they have a fairly good grasp on the practical aspects as well, which makes them ‘industry-ready.’ This will go a long way in furthering their career in the stock markets.

Nirmal Jain , CMD - India Infoline

I am impressed by the dedication of the faculty and management of N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research and the enthusiasm and eagerness of its students. I am particularly happy that this is one of the few management institutes that admits students purely

on merit, without any management quota and donation. Under the circumstances, the infrastructure that the institute has created is worthy of praise. I am sure that students passing through the portals of an institute like this one which instills value and ethics besides imparting knowledge will become assets to the corporate world.

Raj Nair , Chairman - Avalon

Consulting

I am very much impressed by the quality of infrastructure that the institute has. The commitment of faculty towards the students is very high and I was able to see how they were guiding the students. With this kind of atmosphere I am sure the institute will achieve greater heights and become one of the most sought after business schools in Mumbai. I wish the institute all the very best.

Continual evolution and being a step ahead of competion are the two cornerstones that make an Institute among the most sought-after ones.

At NLDIMSR, one can see that happening right now, and its extremely refreshing change! With courses aligned towards Future of Business Management, I am sure the new batch of graduates shall be industry ready and a notch above other institutes. Glad to be a part of this journey with the institute.

NLDIMSR was very enriching both in terms of academic knowledge as well as personality development. Two years were a perfect blend of batchmates prior experience, classroom discussions and instruction imparted by academicians. It created something that we fondly call the 'Aha' moment. I am glad that values of being a team player, perseverance, having thought clarity; imbibed during those two years have been the pillars of progress for me in the corporate world thus far.

A business management course gears up a student to excel in his professional career. Secondly a business management course is meant to help a candidate have a more holistic approach to the job function, such that the candidate is contributing to the growth of the organization. This excellence is imbibed in a student only if it is taught by experts and veterans from the industry, with a practical approach to the market and industry scenarios. I would like to thank my alma mater NLDIMSR for providing me the right inputs to excel in the industry today.

The learning inculcated during the two years MMS course has really been the perfect foundation for my career. It was indeed a pleasure to learn from the great teachers in the management field. At NLDIMSR there is a perfect blend of learning and fun. The interaction with the guest speakers from various industries where they share their experiences enrich the students. These are a close brush with the corporate culture even before they enter it.
