The highlights of the annual day includes, inter alia, 1) Debate Competition of 2nd year 2) Speech Competition of 1st year 3) The finals of KSL Intra-College Singing Star 4) Award Distribution 5) Dance Performances from the Students The Annual Celebration was graced by Hon. Subash Nembang Former Speaker of the House, Hon. Justice Mohan Prakash Sitaula and Hon. Agni Kharel, Attorney General of Nepal. It was an honor to welcome the guests along with our professors, associate and assistant professors, research assistants, staff, interns and students of Kathmandu School of Law. As per the tradition, based on the professional performance of the alumni, KSL awards a few achievers each year. For the year 2018, the following alumni were awarded. Kathmandu School of Law celebrated its 19th Annual Day with a lot of vigor, programs and support from students and faculties. The highlights of the annual day includes, inter alia,

1) Debate Competition of 2nd year 2) Speech Competition of 1st year 3) The finals of KSL Intra-College Singing Star 4) Award Distribution 5) Dance Performances from the Students

The Annual Celebration was graced by Hon. Subash Nembang Former Speaker of the House, Hon. Justice Mohan Prakash Sitaula and Hon. Agni Kharel, Attorney General of Nepal. It was an honor to welcome the guests along with our professors, associate and assistant professors, research assistants, staff, interns and students of Kathmandu School of Law.

As per the tradition, based on the professional performance of the alumni, KSL awards a few achievers each year. For the year 2018, the following alumni were awarded.

GRAND FINALE: KSL Intra-College Singing Star

The Grand finale of the KSL Intra-College Singing Star was held during the KSL Annual Celebration. We would like to congratulate: Sanjula Ranpal, the WINNER who won the cash prize of 25 thousand and a beautiful Trophy Sukriya Dhital, the FIRST RUNNER UP who won the cash prize of 15 thousand and a beautiful Trophy Saphalta Shrestha, the SECOND Runner Up who won the cash prize of 10 thousand and a beautiful trophy We would like to thank all the participants for their vigor and active participation. The competition truly made KSL a lively place.

Team KSL qualifies for the 32nd edition of Jean-Pictet Competition   Congratulations! KSL Alumnus Sushant Thapaliya and Sangam Sangroula for securing 1st and 2nd position in 25th Nepal Bar Council Examination.

It is an immense pleasure to share the news of qualification of Team KSL to the 32nd edition of Jean-Pictet Competition, which is going to be held in Obernai, France from 30th March to 6th April. Jean-Pictet in an IHL competition, with many programs like role-play, moot court etc. The team is composed of Ms. Mamta Siwakoti, Ms. Pranjali Kanel, Mr. Dhruba Yonzon with coach Assoc. Prof. Yugichha Sangroula. We wish the team best for their upcoming competition.

 

 

KSL Seminar Series 2019 - Seminar 1 on New Development Paradigms and Human Rights

Kathmandu School of Law organized one-day seminar on New Development Paradigms and Human Rights on January 1, 2019. This is the first seminar in the KSL Seminar Series, 2019. The key speakers of the seminar included Prof. (Dr.) Yubaraj Sangroula and Mr. Kundan Jha. Apart from this, noted young professional in human rights and business as well as law students from Kathmandu School of Law, Nepal Law Campus were present. The full report of the seminar can be found here. The seminar was organized in the Residential Campus of KSL, in Kavre.

KSL Seminar Series 2019- Seminar 2 on Geo-economics and Development of Nepal Kathmandu School of Law hosted a seminar on Geo-economics and Development of Nepal organized by Think Tank Group in its premises on January 21st2019. The major premise of the program was to prioritize geo-economics over geo-politics in this global era. The seminar was streamed live on Facebook from the official page of Kathmandu School of Law. The questions posed were presented during a discussion session, the next day.

Call for Application: FIMT Student exchange program

Kathmandu School of Law invites applications for the annual Student Exchange Program that KSL conducts with FIMT, India. This year the program is scheduled to occur form 10thMarch to 18thMarch 2019. Applications will be accepted till the 10thof February 2019. FIMT Student exchange is a unique program co-organized by KSL and FIMT and is targeted to increase cooperation among the students of Nepal and India. Apart from that, it encompasses informative lecture sessions from diverse panel of guest lecturers across India and Nepal. The program is focused on mainly two cities of India, Delhi and Rajasthan. KSL, Legal Literacy and Advocacy Service to Community Program for the 4thyear B.A.LL.B. students

As a part of their curriculum, the students of 4th year B.A.LLB. are taken to the remote areas of Nepal for 21 days to interact with the students of the area. Primarily, KSL students are expected to teach the students of the existing legal provisions regarding human rights, family law and general criminal and civil procedures. In addition, they are also asked to interact with the locals and provide them with legal counsel. The areas visited by the students were Kavre and Sindhuli.

The Orientation Class for New Batch LLM 1st year will be held on 26th January 2019 at 11:00 am in the premises of Kathmandu School of Law (Saturday, 12th Magh 2075) The Orientation Class for LLM 2nd year classes will continue from 27th January 2019 at 7:30 am in the premises of Kathmandu School of Law (Sunday, 13th Magh 2075)

7th edition of Himalayan Field School, 2019

Himalayan Field School is a Sydney Law School offshore unit of study conducted in partnership with Kathmandu School of Law. This offshore unit of study exposes students to the role and limits of law in addressing acute problems of socio-economic development and human rights facing a developing country like Nepal, which ranks among the world’s poorest countries. Through an interactive ‘field school’ conducted over two weeks in Nepal, utilizing innovative teaching methods, this unit will use the Nepalese experience to illustrate the complexity of developmental

and human rights problems confronting developing countries. The 2019 edition was formally inaugurated on January 28 2019, the program ends on 8th February 2019. 28 Students from University of Sydney along with 2 KSL students will participate in this residential course on Law, Development and Human Rights. This is the 7th edition of the field school since 2012. Prof. David Kinley, Chair of Human Rights Law of Sydney Law School is here along with the students and Ms. Kiuyan Hone, Program Officer for HFS from The University of Sydney.

Chinese Language Course in KSL

Kathmandu School of Law is organizing a Chinese language course for the students, staffs and faculties. Deadline for receiving names is till 5th February. Further details are in the notice provided in the link.

Team KSL in the National Rounds for Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition

Kathmandu School of Law, with the team composed of (from left) Mr. Ashwin Kumar K.C., Ms. Rosy Shrestha, Ms. Anjana Dhital, Ms. Sadina Ghimire, Mr. Anmol Marasini and Coach Assoc. Prof. Yugichha Sangroula participated in the National Rounds of Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition. Team KSL won the award of Best Orator (Mr. Ashwin Kumar K.C.), Best Memorial and the 1st Runner Up in the National Competition. Congratulations to the team and we wish them best in their upcoming endeavors.

Team KSL in the 4th Madhava Menon SAARCLAW Moot

KSL would like to congratulate the team of (from left) Mr. Sulav Jung Rayamajhi, Ms. Ashima Singh Bhattarai, Mr. Ashim Bhattarai, Mr. Srijan Pant for their participation in the 4th Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon SAARCLAW Moot 2018-19 held in India from 15-18th February, 2019.

KSL hosting guests from Jiangsu High People’ Court of China

KSL is hosting Vice President and Senior Judges from Jiangsu High People's Court of People's Republic of China for 2 Day's discussion on Judicial System in Nepal and China. They shall also be visiting Attorney General's Office, High Court of Patan and Bhaktapur District Court along with various site visits.

33rd South Asia Teaching Session on IHL

33rd South Asia Teaching Session on International Humanitarian Law begins in Kathmandu, Nepal. Kathmandu School of Law is the collaborating partner of the program with ICRC. The program will run from 24th February to 2nd March 2019.

Hon'ble Minister Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal inaugurated the program yesterday. Prof Geeta Pathak Sangroula from Kathmandu School of Law is the resident professor for the program.This year has 38 participants from 9 countries. Assoc. Prof. Amritha Shenoy from KSL was also a participant in the program.

South Asia Short Course on Refugee Rights and Advocacy: Call for Participants

KSL is happy to be collaborating with APRRN for the second South Asia Short Course on Refugee Rights and Advocacy this coming 13-17 June 2019.This Short Course is an initiation of our APRRN Legal Aid and Advocacy Working Group and South Asia Working Group.This Short Course aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of forced migration in the South Asia through a human rights perspective and build the capacity of participants for advocacy in the region.
