Why In News- Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Hydrogen Mission on August 15, 2021 from Lal Quila on the occasion of celebration of 75th Independence Day.

This mission was announced in the backdrop of India spending Rs 12 trillion annually to meet its energy needs, The mission seeks to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production and exports. India currently imports 85% of its oil and 53% of its gas demand.

Green hydrogen is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen with the help of electrolyzer which is powered by electricity from renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Total hydrogen demand in India is 6.7 million tonnes currently. It is expected to increase to 11.7 million tonnes (mt) by 2029-30. Hydrogen produced from this method is called as brown hydrogen. While the Green hydrogen is extracted without releasing any emissions at all.

Why In News- According to the UN food agency, World Food Programme (WFP), out of 39 million people, 14 million people are facing severe hunger in Afghanistan.

Why In News- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has organized the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Consultation Workshop.

The SVEEP program is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education & awareness. The new voters would send a personalized letter from the Commission when sending out their Voter ID Cards.

It comes under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. He will also serve the post of secretary, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB). Earlier, Meherda had served as Secretary to the Governor and as Health Secretary in the Government of Odisha.

National Food Security Mission: It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in 2007. It aims to increase production of rice, wheat, pulses, coarse cereals and commercial crops, through area expansion and productivity enhancement.

Why In News- HDFC Bank has announced listing of its 3.7% $1 billion foreign currency Additional Tier-1 (AT1) bonds exclusively at the IFSC in GIFT City, Gandhinagar.

It became India's first lender to exclusively list AT1 bonds on GIFT-IFSC. India INX's primary market platform, Global Securities Market (GSM), has over $55 billion medium term notes (MTN) established since its establishment in 2018.

AT-1 bonds are a type of unsecured, perpetual bonds that banks issue to shore up their core capital base to meet the Basel-III norms. AT-1 bonds are like any other bonds issued by banks and companies, but pay a slightly higher rate of interest compared to other bonds. Banks have the option to recall AT-1 bonds issued by them (termed call options that allow banks to redeem them after 5 or 10 years).

Major Dhyan Chand was born on 29th August 1905, in Allahabad and was a great hockey player of his time. Why In News- The world’s highest movie theatre has recently been inaugurated in Ladakh, which got its first-ever mobile digital movie theatre in the Paldan area of Leh, at an altitude of 11,562 feet.

Note: Recently, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has built one of the world’s highest mobile air traffic control (ATC) towers at the Advanced Landing Ground in Ladakh.

Why In News- The Reserve Bank of India has increased the limit of fund transfer under the Indo-Nepal Remittance Facility Scheme from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh per transaction.

Earlier there was a ceiling limit of 12 transactions in a year. Now, this limit has also been removed. However, for cash-based transfers under the Indo-Nepal Remittance Facility, the per transaction limit of Rs 50,000 will still be present with a maximum number of transfers in a year allowed at 12.

Indo-Nepal Remittance Facility is a fund transfer mechanism from India to Nepal (not otherwise) that operates on NEFT. It was started by RBI in the year 2008. It is managed by SBI in India and Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBL) in Nepal.
