    Welcoming the completion of the transition process in Afghanistan and the launch of its 2015-

    2024 Transformation Decade, the Security ouncil today e!tended the mandate of the "nited

     #ations Assistance $ission in that country %"#A$A& for another year, until 1' $arch 201(,until and decided that it and the Secretary-)eneral*s Special +epresentatie ould continue to

    lead and coordinate international ciilian efforts on achieing esta.lished priorities/

    "nanimously adopting resolution 2210 %2015&, the ouncil underscored the importance of

    sustaina.le democratic deelopment in that country ith all national institutions acting ithintheir defined competence/ t stressed the role of "#A$A in supporting an inclusie Afghan-led

    and Afghan-oned process of peace and reconciliation, hile continuing to assess its human

    rights and gender implications/

    The 15-mem.er .ody also urged the international community to assist the Afghan )oernment*sefforts in that regard, including through continued support to the eace and +eintegration Trust

    und/ ondemning all attac3s targeting ciilians and Afghan and international forces, the

    ouncil e!pressed strong concern a.out the recruitment and use of ciilians .y the Tali.an andother iolent and e!tremist groups/

    Afghanistan and a3istan had conducted an increasingly constructie dialogue focused on peace,

    trade and security, achieements that testified to the efforts of resident Ashraf )hani and hief

    international community/ The ouncil*s call for a full e!amination of the role, structure and

    actiities of all "nited #ations entities in Afghanistan, in full consultation and engagement iththe )oernment and 3ey sta3eholders, sent a clear message of dedication to long-term, effectie

    support to Afghanistan/

    support of the international community/

    When "#A$A as esta.lished in 2002 to assist Afghanistan and its people in laying the

    foundation for sustaina.le peace and deelopment, the State as una.le to function, and the

    The last year had seen tremendous progress and change, he said, ith Afghanistan haingcompleted its political and security transition/ $illions of omen and men cast their otes in

    historic presidential elections, mar3ing the first-eer transition from one democratically elected president to another/ The nternational Security and Assistance orce %SA& mission ended and

    a ne #orth Atlantic Treaty Crgani;ation %#ATC& mission, Cperation +esolute Support, asesta.lished to proide training adice and assistance to Afghanistan national defence and security

    forces, hich ere no fully responsi.le for the security of the country/

    n the ensuing de.ate, spea3ers lauded the gains Afghans had made in the political sphere, hileunderscoring the threats continuing e!tremist iolence, the narcotics trade and sluggish economic

    groth posed to enduring peace and sta.ility/

    humanitarian impact of that iolence, and continued professionalism of Afghan security anddefence forces as crucial to sta.ility, as ell as the promotion of human rights/ n a similar
