Untuk menentukan tipe pasang surut yang
terjadi ditentukan Formzhal Number .

Nilai bilangan Formzhal pada area
Suralaya adalah 0.898 yang berada diantara 0.25 sampai 1.5. Oleh karena itu
pasang surut pada area ini bertipe mixed,
mainly semi diurnal . Dalam satu hari
pasang surut terjadi dengan pola terjadi
dua kali air pasang dan dua kali air surut,
tetapi tinggi dan periodenya berbeda.
Berikut merupakan elevasi muka air
selama 72 jam yang diambil dari
potongan sketsa plot ketinggian muka air
dari DISHIDROS TNI-AL selama satu
bulan yang menunjukkan tipe pasang
surut campuran condong ke diurnal di
perairan Suralaya :

Dengan program ERGRAM didapatkan ramalan elevasi muka air selama 18.6 tahun (163.272
jam).
