Dear, CitraDoes the world treat you well? It’s really hard to answer your questions about the possible effects of global warming.

To the best of my knowledge, scientists have different opinions on how warm the Earth's surface will really get. The increase may be between 1.5°C and 6°C by the year 2100. I believe warmer weather will make ice caps and glaciers melt. Sea levels could rise dramatically. Plants, animals and people living in coastal areas all could be in danger.

I think the weather may change in many areas of the world. Floods, droughts and damaging storms could be the result. People in colder regions might welcome warmer weather but those who live in regions that are already hot – like Indonesia - may suffer from new diseases. At the same time some animals may not survive because they cannot adapt to the new environment. They could move to other places in order to live there.

The important thing that we should do right now is we have to keep our green environment, don’t we?

RegardsPhilip

My Teddy Bear is one of my favorite things. It is nice to hold. The one I have is growing old. Its paws are almost wearing out and so is its funny furry snout. Its fur is pretty thin. A ribbon and a piece of string make a sort of necktie. Its eyes come out. My Teddy Bear has some new neckties made of thread. I take it everywhere I go and tell my Teddy Bear all the things I know. I like to play with it.

I was an EMT for 10 years. I always ran with the same paramedic. He was pretty high strung and very, very smart. (He is in med school now at 50!! Already a P.hd in chemistry.) Anyway, we operated in a rural district, the largest township in NYS. So from the ambulance station there were calls that were up to 20 minutes away. That is an infinity in a life or death situation.

One night we had a call for a three year old child, in seizure lasting longer than 10 minutes. The call was on the furthest end of our district. It was a HORRIBLE call. People generally do not breath during a seizure.

We raced off. Bob (the paramedic) was screaming at me to drive faster. Meanwhile, he was running around the back of the ambulance getting his drugs ready and setting things up.

It took 10 minutes to get to the house. We jumped out of the ambulance and ran into the house. It took a minute to figure out what we were looking at. Our adrenalin was pumping. We were hyper, terrified, and just not understanding what we were looking at.

There was an entire family backed up against the wall. Dad had the phone in his hand. Mom was crying and three kids were hysterical. In the center of the room lay the biggest Rottweiler I have ever seen. And it looked like - it was having a seizure. There was a broken table and chair -- which apparently the dog had broken during the seizure.

Still, we said (at the same time) WHERE IS THE BABY??? The mother pointed to the dog.

OMG! OMG! We both just started laughing. It was awful, but who called an ambulance for a dog. The dispatcher was so embarrassed. We breathed a huge sigh of relief......

23. What does the text tell us about?A. A terrified call for a dog. B. A horrible call in the mid night.C. Paramedic duties in a remote area.D. The writer’s embarrassing experience.

The Hermit and his Padi Seeds

Many years ago, there lived a hermit in the forest of Sumatra. He did not grow food but depended on the jungle fruit to survive. Soon, there was a drought and all the plants and fruit trees in the jungle died.

The old man had nothing to eat, so he turned to be a beggar. He went to a nearby village trying to get some food. At first, the villagers were happy to help him. However, when he came continually, they refused to give him food anymore. They told him to

Before the boatman went away, he said, “These seeds will grow and give you everlasting harvests if you work hard. If you are tired of work, the padi will turn into weeds.”

The old hermit worked hard to clear the land and sowed the seed before the rain came. Strangely, after a short period of time, the padi was ready for harvesting. The old man got a lot of rice from the harvest. After each harvest, the plants grew back again right away. When the villagers heard about the hermit and his wonderful padi, they flocked to his padi-field and took home as much padi as they could.

Hye-Mi ChoThis is a traditional game in Korea. There are

four sticks, each one made of wood and about 15 centimeters in length. The sticks have two sides; the upside is rounded and the downside is flat.

Before the game starts, people have to divide into teams; usually two to four teams works best. Then we draw a very simple game board on a white paper. It's easy to draw. Just draw 7 small circles or points so it looks like an x-shaped square. A point on the lower right side of the game board is the starting point and a point at the opposite lower left side is the end point. To win this game, you have to get the most points and arrive at the end point first.

Suppose two people play the game. One of them throws the sticks to the ground first. If the flat side comes up, it means you get a point. If two flat sides come up, you get two points. If four flat sides come up, you get four points. If four rounded sides come up, you get five points because it's difficult to do that. If you get one point, your stone can go one step forward on the game board. That means, if you get four points, your stone can go four steps.

In Korea, we play this game on New Year's Day. On that day, all of the family and relatives get together and play this game. Usually, we divide into three teams and the oldest grand mom is the judge. We bet some money for whom as winner.

We enjoy the game. If one team wins, that team gets the money, but they have to buy some food or drinks for everybody. I think playing this game is a very good way for people to stick together without

There was once a king and a queen, who had no children. At last, the Queen gave birth to a daughter. The king gave a big feast so that everyone could give her a gift. Seven fairies in the kingdom were invited. An old fairy who was not invited came. She was very angry.

One young fairy hid behind the curtain to see what would happen. All the fairies began to give their gifts to the Princess. It came to the old fairy’s turn. She said that the Princess would pierce her hand with a needle and die of the wound. Everybody began crying when they heard that.

Then, the young fairy came out from behind the curtains and spoke loudly, “I have no power to change what the old fairy has done. But the Princess will not die. She shall fall into a deep sleep for a hundred years.”

One day the Princess went into the sewing room. She saw an old woman sewing. She took the needle from the old woman. The moment she touched the needle, it pricked her and she fell into a deep sleep. The King hearing what had happened, commanded that they should let her sleep quietly. They left the castle and a forest grew around it.

One day, a prince from the neighboring kingdom was hunting in the forest. During the hunt, he got lost from his friends. So he just wandered about. Suddenly he came across a huge castle all overgrown with creepers and plants. He went in and everything was damp. He walked up the staircase opening every door. In one room, he saw a large bed on which lay sleeping, the most beautiful girl the Prince ever seen. He knelt down and immediately the ‘sleeping beauty’ opened her eyes and saw the Prince. At least seven people have been arrested for hoarding and selling at higher prices than that set by the government.

City police natural resources crime unit chief Adj.Sr.Comr. Ahmad Haydar said many fuel agents who were supposed to sell kerosene to households had chosen to sell the product to factories for a higher profit.

The government has set the price of kerosene for households at Rp 700 per liter and at Rp 2,200 per liter for industry.

Ahmad said many agents licensed to sell, kerosene to household took advantage of the price by selling most of their stock to factories.

Many housewives, especially in Greater Jakarta, have complained that the price of kerosene was too high for them and they had to use firewood for cooking.

On Feb, 22, police arrested two agents for illegally selling and hoarding fuel. On Feb, 28, police arrested two other people for hoarding 20 tons of kerosene. On March 3, police detained a man only identified as SH in Jaka Sampurna, Bekasi, with more than 80 tons of kerosene, and another man in Cilincing, North Jakarta, identified as Ag with 30 tons of diesel oil.
