SKAIiAI..AM:The Selangor state executivecouncil approved th~ Subang JayaMunicipalCouncil's (MPSJ)Localplah 2020 on March 17last year with certain conditions. -

They include a requirement that a publichearing on the plan to be held by the council.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri AbdUlKhalid Ibrahimsaid there are certain levels of approval whichare accorded to local plans before the details arefmalised.

"For example, before' approval is given for apublic space to be developed, the proposal mustgo through the process of a public hearing,presented to the.1ocalcouncil and then approval

by the state exco," he said.. "Weallowcertainproposalsbut thesetooaresubject to a lot of requirements, includingmeeting the people," he added.'

On Tuesday residents and their lawyers were'shocked to learn that the MPSfs local plan wasapproved before a'public hearing on it was heldon April Tlast year. .

Tbisinformation was revealed at a hearing bythe stat~appeals board where residents sought toiItterverie in an appeal by Sime DarbYPropertyBhd against MPSfs decision to reject its proposalfor the development on 7.7haofSubang Riapark.

AbdulKhalid also said the local plan approvedby the state exco included Sime Darby'sproposed low-rise, low-density housing projectat the site.

"But, the understanding was that SimeDarby was willing to give the remaining areato the public without us having to pay a singlecent for it and they would Upgrade it as well,"he said. -

It was rejected on Tuesdayduring a hearing which tookplace before the board's panelmade up of chairman DatukAbu Bakar Awang and mem-bers HoKhong Mingand DatinTeh Zawahir Abdul Malek atBangunan Darul Ehsan inJalan Indah here.

SUBANG JAYA: Suhang JayaMunicipal Council (MPSJ) hassigned a memorandum dfunder-standing (MoU) with UniversitiPutra Malaysia (UPM) to carryout a research and developmentprogramme in th,e field offorestry here, recently.

MPSJ president Datuk AdnanMd Ikshan said this partnershiphas a five-year term agreementunder the Smart PartnershipProgramme, which was imple-mented in 2007.

It includes fivecore areas suchas research, development, train-ing, academic fields and consul~tation. '

"Since the launch 'of the pro-gramme, the council has carriedout numerous programmes withmore than 100 governmentagencies and NGOs.

"And now, with the UPM's ex-pertise and skills, 'we hope theprogrammes that we have or-ganised will produce good re-sults, " he said.
