Sustainability InitiativesPT Vale builds and operates 3 hydropower plants that produce 365 Megawatts of total energy. The
hydropower plants contribute to 36% of the total energy requirements at PT Vale. The operation of
hydropower plants reduces carbon emissions by 1,096,705 tons CO2eq peryear.
PT Vale integrates mining activities with reclamation and rehabilitation activities on post-mining
areas. Starting in 2020, PT Vale implement reforestation beyond boundaries.
PT Vale canceled the Coal Conversion Project even though it contributed to the reduction in the
Company’s financial costs by around US$40 million per year. By cancelling CCP, PT Vale can avoid
increasing greenhouse emission by 200,000 ton CO2 eq per year inaverage.

We operates electric boiler since May 2019 with 100% energy coming from our hydropower plants. This new
device generates steam with zero emission. Another advantage is eliminating the use of fossil fuel by
67,047 barrels peryear.
Operating a Mobile Screening Station unit that is able to move closer to the mining area so as to help the
performance of transport trucks more efficiently. This unit reducing the HSD fuel consumption by 57.64
liters per hour or around 148 liters overall.
Since 2015, PT Vale has implemented a program to use biodiesel to support the fuel needs of operational
vehicles. Gradually, we are looking to increase the concentration of biofuels (BBN) in biodiesel by up to 20%
in line with ESDM Regulation.
Achieving our first Green PROPER Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Our Green
PROPER achievement is also the first time for an integrated nickel mine and smelter in Indonesia.

The pandemic has made us more aware of the importance of
collaboration and strengthening the belief that there will be no

In addition to making efforts to prevent and handle COVID-19 in
the Company’s area, PT Vale has provided support to the
