World Health Report states that depression accounts for 40% of all
Depression is a disease characterized by a lack of energy, mood swings, fluctuationsin weight, interrupted sleep, waking up very early morning, gain or loss of appetite, etc.
Reduction in brain magnesium levels results in lowering of serotonin.
Major depression is terminated with oral and intravenous administration of magnesium.
Administration of antidepressant drugs raises the level of magnesium concentration.
neuropsychiatric disorders.

Role of Magnesium in our Body
Magnesium plays a crucial role in medical regulating contraction of all kinds ofmuscles, blood pressure, metabolism of insulin, synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins.
In clinical care, the central nervous system has the maximum concentration ofmagnesium which accounts for brain balance.
Magnesium acts as a voltage-dependent blocker of N-methyl-D-aspartate channel. This channel is responsible for regulating the flow of calcium to the neuron.
In such medical conditions, calcium and glutamate are take up by the neuron insteadmagnesium, which in turn leads to deregulation of synaptic function, finally leading tothe condition of depression.

Processed foods lack magnesium and their intake results in magnesium deficiencyin our body.
Black beans, pumpkin seeds, cashews, almonds and dark chocolate are some of thefood items rich in magnesium.
Intake of antacids, diuretics, caffeine and alcohol also decreases magnesium levels.
Use of pesticides and potassium-based fertilizers causes magnesium depletion.
Pesticides kill the important magnesium absorbing bacteria, while potassium offertilizers is taken up by the plants instead of magnesium and calcium.
Ways Magnesium gets Depleted

Effects of Magnesium Administration
The positive side is that mood and cognition gets improved and better with theadministration of magnesium such that the normal levels of magnesium getsrestored in the body.
People tend to show healthy eating patterns, better quality of sleep, improvements inefficacy of modalities such as medications, etc.
Minerals like magnesium are required in very small amounts in our body but playmajor roles in several metabolic pathways.
