DAFTAR ISI:NARRATIVE RECOUNT DESCRIPTIVE REPORT PROCEDURE

A. Narrative Umumnya, teks yang berbentuk narrative merupakan kisah fiksi. Sejak kecil, kita sudah mengenal tokoh Kancil, Malin Kundang atau Legenda Danau Toba. Dari luar negeri kita mengenal cerita putri Cinderella, Putri Romeo and Juliet dan dongeng lainnya. Semua contoh tersebut di kategorikan ke dalam bentuk naratif. Secara garis besar, struktur narrative terdiri atas: a. Orientation Orientation berisi siapa tokoh cerita, kapan terjadi, dan dimana tempat cerita berlangsung. b. Evaluation Evaluation berisi bagaimana/seperti apa tokoh tersebut, bagaimana tempat tersebut, dan kondisi pada waktu tersebut. c. Complication Complication berisi permasalahan yang dihadapi tokoh cerita. d. Resolution Resolution berisi penyelesaian terhadap masalah yang dihadapi. e. Reorientation Menggambarkan kondisi dan keadaan tokoh setelah tahap penyelesaian. Contoh: The Legend of Toba Lake Once, a fisherman named Batara Guru Sahala lived in the Batak Land. One day, he caught a fish. He was surprised to find that the fish could talk. It begged Sahala toset it free. He did accordingly. As soon as the fish was free, it changed into a woman. She was so beautiful that Sahala fell in love at once. He asked her to marry him. The woman agreed to marry Sahala. However, she told him that he must never let

out the secret that she was once a fish. Sahala promised that he would not tell anyone about it. They were happily married and had two daughters. Every morning Sahala went out fishing. One day, his daughters brought him his launch. However, instead of bringing food to their father, the two gtirls ate it. When Sahala knew what they had done with the meal, he got very angry. He shouted at them saying, "You behaved exactly like the daughters of the fish!". They did not know what their father meant. They went home and asked their mother about it. Their mother was very upset. Although Sahala apologized to her, she would not forgive him for breaking his promise. Then the earth began to shake, and the volcano started to erupt. The earth cracked and formed a big hole. It is said that the hole became the Toba Lake.

B. Recount Recount adalah jenis teks yang berfungsi untuk menceritakan pengalaman yang terjadi di masa lalu. Yang termasuk teks recount diantaranya adalah buku catatan harian (diary), biography, auto biography dan catatan perjalanan. Secara garis besar, Recount mempunyai struktur teks sebagai berikut: a. Orientation Orientation berisi siapa tokoh cerita, kapan terjadi, dan dimana tempat cerita berlangsung. b. Event Event berisi kejadian secara berurutan. Kejadian-kejadian di dalam teks bisa lebih dari satu. c. Reorientation Reorientation berisi penutup dari rangkaian kejadian yang diceritakan. Contoh:

Muhammad Hatta Muhammad Hatta, well known as Bung Hatta, is an Indonesian nationalist leader and vice-president. He was born in Bukittinggi, Sumatra in 1902. He spent his life studying in the Netherlands. In 1932, he obtained a doctorate in economics in 1932. Returning to Indonesia, he became active in the Indonesian nationalist movement. Because of his activity, he was arrested by the Dutch in 1934 and was imprisoned on the island of Bandanaira.When the Dutch surrendered to Japanese, he was released by the Japanese colonial in 1942. In 1945, after the proclamation of Indonesia's Independence, Hatta became vice-president under Sukarno of the Indonesia Republic. By 1948 Hatta was the prime minister of the struggling government. As vice-president, he disagreed more and more with President Sukarno's policies, and he resigned in 1956. After Sukarno's fall in 1966, Hatta served the new government in various advisory oles in economic and financial matters. In 1980, he died as one of the national heroes. He had devoted his life for the national interest, not only in struggling period, but also in the developing era.

C. Descriptive Teks ini berfungsi untuk menggambarkan ciri-ciri benda atau orang yang sudah khusus, spesifik dan tidak ada duanya. Contoh dari teks descriptive seperti mendeskripsikan Bogor Botanical Garden, Sydney Opera House, Krisdayanti, dan SBY. Struktur teks descriptive terdiri atas: a. Identification Bagian ini mengkategorikan benda/orang yang akan digambarkan. b. Description Menceritakan ciri-ciri benda/orang/tempat yang dideskripsikan. Contoh:

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono He was born on 9 September 1949 in Tremas, Pacitan, East Java. We know him as the president of Indonesia. He is often called SBY. SBY has fat body, round face, pointed nose, and black hair. As the exsoldier, his body is strong and health. SBY is married to Ani. They have two sons, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono. Agus works as a soldier, and Edhie becomes a politician. SBY likes singing. He has released 3 album so far. The first album is entitled My Longing For You (Rinduku Padamu) published in 2007, the second entitled Evolusi in 2009 and the third album entitled I'm Certain I'll Make It (Ku Yakin Sampai Disana) released 2010.

D. Report Report berfungsi menerangkan dan menggambarkan sesuatu yang masih bersifat umum. Contoh dari teks report diantaranya mendeskripsikan ikan paus, hewan mamalia, reptil, pohon kelapa, dan hutan tropis Struktur teksnya sebagai berikut: a. General classification Klasifikasi benda yang akan dideskripsikan. b. Description Memaparkan ciri-ciri fisik dan lainnya. Contoh: Komodo Dragons Komodo dragons are the native animals of Indonesia. They are very big. People sometimes call them giant lizards. They are very dangerous. They eat deers, wild pigs and other komodo dragons.

Komodo Dragons are reptiles. They have cold blood and they lay

eggs. Komodo Dragons can't run, but they can climb a tree. They can live without eating for weeks or even months.

E. Procedure Procedure adalah teks yang mempunyai fungsi sosial menggambarkan cara atau membuat sesuatu dengan langkah-langkah yang berurutan. Struktur teksnya adalah sebagai berikut: a. Goal Tujuan dari teks. b. Materials Bahan dan alat yang dibutuhkan. c. Steps Langkah-langkah untuk membuat sesuatu. Contoh: How to Make Rujak Buah Ingredients: 1 cucumber, peeled. 1 papaya, cut into 1/2 inch cubes. 1 pineapple, cut into 1/2 inch cubes, fresh or canned pineapple. 1 apple tart, cut into 1/2 inch cubes. 1 mango, peeled, cubed. 3 tablespoons peanuts, fry. 1 hot chili peppers, seeded, sliced. 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon tamarind, dissolved in 1/2 cup water, strained. Directions:

Mix all the fruit together.

Grind chilies and salt. Add brown sugar. Add dry roasted peanuts and grind completely. Pour some tamarind liquid. Mix the sauce and fruit together. Serve chilled.
