    Fugitive Joko Tjandra in Singapore: AGOThe Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 06/24/2009 1:03 PM

    Joko Soegiarto Tjandra, a fugitive in the Bank Bali corruption case, is suspected to have flown to Singapore from

    Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, an official at the Attorney Generals Office (AGO) said Wednesday.

    "According to our in formation, Joko Tjandra is already in Singapore. However, the AGO is coordinating with the

    Foreign Ministry to trace Djoko's whereabouts ," deputy attorney general for special crim es Marwan Effendy told

    Antara state news agency.

    The AGO has sent a third and final warrant for Joko to surrender him self by Friday afternoon at the very latest.

    However, Djokos lawyer O.C. Kaligis told Antara that he could not guarantee his client would s how up at the

    AGO on Friday.

    Joko Tjandra left the country using a chartered flight from Halim Perdanakus umah Airport in Jakarta to Port

    Moresby on June 10, jus t one day before the Supreme Court is sued a verdict, upon the AGO's request of review,

    sentencing Joko and former Bank Indonesia governor Syahril Sabirin to two years' imprisonment and ordering

    Joko to pay Rp 546 billi on (about US$54 mi llion) as restitution to the state.

    Unlike Joko, Syahril Sabirin has surrendered himself to the Attorney Generals Office.

    STUPID! the truth is the right thing! He is m y uncle but not only is he m y uncle..he is soo MUCH MORE!! he is

    one nationality as m e! and I CHERISH that! we work hard for this. You might think its easy but NO! your wrong!

    Why, in 2009, is n't there an extradition treaty between Indonesia and Singapore? Tim e and again Singapore has

    proved willing to accept fugitives from Indonesia - s o long as they bring lots of m oney with them - and until this

    nice bolthole is plugged Indonesia will never be able to deter large-scale corruption.
