EXPRESSING QUANTITY
Hello my Dear..
• Do you know how to express quantity in English?
• Tau ngga caranya mengungkapkan jumlah dalam bahasa Inggris?
Dalam bahasa Indonesia kita menggunakan kata:
• Banyak• Sedikit• Semua• Beberapa, dll
Lalu bagaimana dalam bahasa Inggris??
MANY
• Artinya: Banyak• Digunakan untuk menerangkan binatang,
orang, dan benda yang dapat dihitung.• Misalnya: tas (bag), anjing (dog)
• Berikan contoh lainnya!!
MUCH
• Sama dengan Many, artinya: banyak.• Bedanya: untuk hal-hal yang tidak dapat
dihitung.• Misalnya: air (water), gula (sugar).
• Ayo berikan contoh lainnya!!
A few & A little
• Keduanya memiliki arti: sedikit.• A few digunakan untuk hal yang
dapat dihitung.• A little untuk yang TIDAK dapat
dihitung.
• Contoh: My mom has a little flour in the kitchen.
NONE (not one)
• Artinya tidak ada satupun.• Misalnya:
None of the students is in the class.
BOTH
• Berarti: dua-duanya/ baik … dan….
• Example:
My friend has two pens, both of them are in her bag.
I love both my mother and my father.
SOME
• Beberapa.• Ex: I eat some candies.
ALL
• Semua• Ex: She ate all of the cake.
A great deal of & A lot of
• Artinya: BANYAK• A great deal of spesial untuk
hal yang tidak dapat dihitung (uncountable noun).
• A lot of dapat dipakai baik untuk uncountable & countable noun

Mengungkapkan kewajiban
• HAVE TO/ HAVE GOT TO (informal): For external, general obligations, when it’s the law, a rule, regulations, etc.
untuk kewajiban yang berdasarkan aturan, undang-undang, dll.
Ex.: You have to stop at the traffic lights when the light is red.
You have to wear a uniform at school.
You’ve got to wear a uniform at school.
• MUST: More used in personal obligations:
Ex.: I must eat more healthily
• BOTH: for strong recommendations:
• Ex.: You must/have to see “The Hobbit” this weekend.
PROHIBITION
• LARANGAN• MUSTN’T /CAN’T/NOT ALLOWED TO:
Ex.: You mustn’t/can’t smoke at the school.
You aren’t allowed to smoke at the school.
