Abu Dhabi introduces new screening protocols for residents who got COVID-19 shot
A set of new screening protocols for
residents who have been vaccinated
and those who have participated in
the COVID-19 vaccine trials have been
implemented in Abu Dhabi, starting
last January 17.
The announcement was made by
Abu Dhabi Media Office, on behalf
of the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis
and Disasters Committee and the
Department of Health.
Currently, those who have been
vaccinated are identified into
two groups – (1) those who were
vaccinated as part of the COVID-19
trials in the emirate and (2) those who
have received it as part of the national
vaccination program.
For people who are part of the
vaccine trials, they can get their
special identification status by taking a
PCR test after all the doses prescribed in
the trials are completed.
They must also undergo regular medical
checks as part of the trials, and will also
need to get a PCR test done every seven
days to retain their special status, which is
a golden star on the Al Hosn app.
The participant of the second category
can get their special identification status by
taking a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
test 28 days after their second vaccine
shot. The letter ‘E’ will be seen on Al Hosn
app for their special identification status.
According to the new protocol, these
individuals do not need to undergo
regular checks. Instead, they will need to
get a PCR test done once every seven
days to keep up their special status.
Return from travel
Individuals who have traveled and set to
return from countries, regions or territories
on the ‘green list’ will have to undergo
a PCR test upon arrival. There will also
be a subsequent test to be done on
Day 6 of their arrival. However, they will
not be required to undergo quarantine.
Travelers from places not included
in the ‘green’ list must take a PCR test
upon arrival and one more on Day 8.
They are now required to complete a
ten-day quarantine.
Should they come into contact
with someone who is diagnosed
with COVID-19, they are advised to
quarantine themselves for five days
and take a PCR test on Day 4.
If results came out negative
for COVID-19, they may end their
quarantine.
Abu Dhabi implemented more
stringent measures for those entering
the emirate.
UAE mandates Federal employees who are not yet vaccinated to get PCR tests every 7 days
The Federal Authority for
Government Human Resources
(FAHR) is requiring Federal
government employees to undergo
PCR test every seven days if they will
not be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The circular released by the FAHR
took effect on January 24.
In a Gulf News report, the decision
made by the Federal government is
in line with UAE’s efforts to address
the pandemic and protect the health
of the working environment.
All employees, outsourced
staff, public services employees,
consultants and experts are covered
by the said circular.
The federal authorities will shoulder
the expenses for the weekly PCR tests
until they got vaccinated.
Outsourcing companies should also
shoulder the expenses of the tests for
their employeers who are working full
time in government offices.
Experts and consultants are required
to present their most recent PCR
tests whenever they will engage in
government services.
FAHR also said in a circular that
federal ministries and authorities
should encourage their employees to
take the vaccine.
UAE rules out post-vaccination waiting time
The National COVID-19 Clinical
Management Committee in the UAE
has ruled that vaccine recipients can
go home right away after receiving
the jab.
The move is to underscore the safety
of China’s Sinopharm vaccine, Al Bayan
reported.

pandemic, announced
Sheikh Hamdan bin
Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, Crown Prince
of Dubai.
The crown prince announced the
results of the indicators of happiness
for customers of Dubai government on
January 17, Khaleej Times reported.
Sheikh Hamdan revealed that the
average customer happiness rate in the
government of Dubai was 84 percent,
while the average employee happiness
rate stood at 89 percent.
“In September 2019, we announced
that we will announce the results of
happiness indicators for customers
and employees of Dubai government
annually on January 18,” Sheikh Hamdan
tweeted.
The crown prince added that the
three best government centers in the
government of Dubai that held the top
spots in the two categories.
Dubai Police ranked first in the
customer happiness category at 91.6
percent. Coming at second was the
Roads and Transport Authority (RTA),
which scored 90.1 percent.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA)
came in at third with a score of 88.5
percent.
According to employee happiness
indicators, Dubai Statistics Center
ranked first with 97.44 percent, followed
by Dubai Police in second place with
96.68 percent, and Dubai Public
Prosecution with 95.86 percent.
“Dubai Government operations involve
a focus on excellence and innovation.
The happiness of the customer and
employee is never absent from the mind
of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of
Dubai,” said Sheikh Hamdan.
“We look forward to further achieving
the aspirations of every customer and
employee of the government of Dubai,”
he added.
Dr. Nawal Al Kaabi, the Chairperson
of the National COVID-19 Clinical
Management Committee, said vaccine
recipients were previously asked to wait
for a stipulated period after taking the jab.
The waiting time was meant to
ascertain whether the vaccine
recipients were experiencing any
adverse reactions or side-effects.
Initially, vaccine recipients were
asked to wait for 30 minutes after
taking the jab. The committee later
on reduced the waiting time to 15
minutes and then to 10 minutes.
But with the new rule, vaccine
recipients are already allowed to
leave right away after taking the jab.
Dr. Al Kaabi stressed that Sinopharm
is proven effective against the new
strain of SARS-CoV-2, which causes
COVID-19.

GRATEFUL FOR THE UAE!
Dear Editor,
I am truly happy to have stayed in the UAE even at the height of the crisis, as I have been able to
witness the labor market recover successfully due to the smart initiatives of the wise leaders in helping
residents and businesses survive the crisis. Its widespread vaccination campaign and innovation in
terms of treatment provided confidence among sectors and professionals, and I believe this is the
reason why the UAE has become one of the few that have successfully managed the impact of the
crisis. I look forward to spending more years here and thriving in my chosen field, and I am confident
that many other Filipinos will find jobs as the country’s businesses start to resume and reopen. I am
excited to see the many more opportunities this country will provide expats like me. Long live the UAE!

ourselves from the virus.
The Sinopharm vaccine, on the other
hand, is made from the inactivated
COVID-19 virus. It has been declared by
the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention
(MOHAP) as 86 percent effective. It will be
administered in two doses, 21 days apart.
“Ito ay vaccine na naglalaman ng SARS-
CoV-2 virus na pinahina na upang hindi
magbigay ng impeksyon, pero magiging
dahilan ng paggawa ng katawan natin ng
“antibodies” upang panlaban sa sakit na

The Sinopharm vaccine is the
same vaccine that was used in the
groundbreaking ‘4Humanity’ trials, the
first global clinical Phase III trial of an
inactivated vaccine to combat COVID-19
which was launched in UAE in July this
year, and later was officially registered by
the MOHAP on December 9.
According to Abdul Rahman bin
Mohammad Al Owais from MOHAP, the
UAE was the first country in the world to
have registered the Sinopharm vaccine.

Jae Nogoy, who has been in the UAE for
seven years, also received the jab as she
welcomed 2021 because of the positive
results among those who have already
been vaccinated.
Nagoy already had her first dose on

scheduled on February 6.

Mobility, meanwhile, is the reason
Keith Walter Ayuso decided to get the jab
on December 18, 2020, noting that those
who are vaccinated get the confidence to
travel across borders.
“Primarily, the need for mobility in terms
of the border access is a concern since
the movement restrictions happened,
thus it will a big help once you have the
vaccine,” he said.
THE UAE TAKES THE LEAD
These Filipinos are among the over a
million expats who have received the free
vaccine provided by the UAE.
It has a dose administration rate of 19.04
per 100 people, according to ‘Our World in
Data’ website that tracks vaccination rates
and run by researchers at the University of
Oxford. As of this writing, the total doses
administered across the country now stand
at 1.88 million.
The UAE also takes the top spot
worldwide in terms of vaccinating medically
eligible residents against COVID-19,
with a vaccine distribution rate of 25.12
doses per 100 people, according to
National Emergency Crisis and Disaster
Management Authority (NCEMA).
Such feat is a result of the leaders’
plan to help all residents acquire the
required immunity, reduce the rate of
infection, and contain the spread of the
virus. It also noted that the vaccine is
being provided to frontline workers, who
were prioritized since it was approved at
the start of October 2020, adding that
the vaccine is available to all segments
of the community, whether citizens and
residents, most notably elderly people
and those with chronic diseases.
According to Maria Elena Oliva, a
General Practitioner at NMC Mabuhay
Clinic in Abu Dhabi, the extensive
vaccination will provide the country
recovery not only on the health, but also
on the economy front.
“Kahanga hanga ang ginawa ng UAE
sa pamimigay ng bakuna na ito upang
makontrol ang kaso ng COVID-19 sa
bansa. Malaki ang magiging epekto nito sa
ekonomiya kung kakaunti na lamang ang
magkakaroon ng COVID-19. Mas madaming

in December 2020, ranking among
the top countries in terms of the rate

country aims to inoculate 70% of its
entire population before the end of
2021. Filipinos in the country have
begun availing of the free vaccine being

government-led initiative that ensures
that no one is left behind.
Jean Mary Mercado Perdiz, a teacher who
has been in the country for 12 years, said
that she decided to avail of the free vaccine

Sheena Cecille Marie Tan Go, a General
Practitioner at Golden Sands Medical
Center, also noted that this feat only shows
how collaboration between the leaders and
the residents can result in the success in
the fight against the pandemic.
She added that it is important for any
nation to achieve herd immunity, which is
vital to protect those not eligible to get the
vaccine from getting moderate or severe
forms of the disease.
“We have to work as a community to
hopefully vaccinate everyone eligible so
that we can achieve herd immunity; kung
saan malaking proportion ng populasyon
ay maging immune sa COVID-19, para di
na kumalat ang virus. It will protect not just
those who are immune, but the vulnerable
ones as well,” she said.
WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY

that are currently being inoculated across

consistent with high protection rate and
robust safety profile, and that the vaccine
will be readily accessible in the UAE for
population vaccination,” he said.
The doctor added that the vaccine is
perhaps the single best weapon today
against COVID-19, as it protects the
community from getting severe forms of
the illness.
“Gaya ng ibang bakuna, importante
ang pagkakaroon ng proteksyon laban sa
sakit. Maiiwasan natin ang pagkakaroon
ng COVID-19. Kung mahawa ka man ng
COVID-19 kahit mabakunahan na, hindi na
ito magiging malubha kumpara sa walang
bakuna,” Oliva added.
Go, meanwhile, stressed that the vaccine
is an important contributor to stimulating the
body to produce antibodies that can provide
immunity against the disease.
“Importante na magpabakuna laban
sa COVID-19 dahil sa pamamagitan nito,
na-i-introduce ang katawan natin sa
virus, part of the virus or a protein similar
to the virus without inducing the disease
itself,” she said.
WHAT ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS?
According to Go, it is normal to
experience side effects from the vaccine,
as it is the way of your body being
introduced to foreign components before
creating the necessary immunity that can
protect one against the illness.
“Normal lang ang magkaroon ng side
effects pgkatapos ng pagbabakuna
kasi dapat alalahanin natin na may
ini-introduce na foreign na material
sa katawan natin kapag tayo ay
nagpapabakuna. Normal talaga na magre-
react ang katawan natin sa ganitong
situasyon,” she said.
Oliva said that among the usual side
effects from the COVID-19 vaccines include
fever, body aches, arms where the jab
was given, fatigue, headache, drowsiness,
and nausea. The side effects, she added,
usually lasts for three days.
FILIPINOS URGED TO GET THE JAB
Experts are urging Filipinos and all
eligible residents in the UAE to get
vaccinated as this is the best way to
protect the entire community.
“Hindi lang ito para sa sarili ninyong
kalusugan,para sa proteksyon din ito
ng pamilya at mga tao sa paligid ninyo,”
said Oliva.
Go also said that only through
achieving herd immunity can we truly
ensure safety against the disease, and
it can only happen with the help of
vaccine.
“Huwag sayangin ang oportunidad
na maprotektahan ang sarili at ang
mga taong nakapaligid sa’yo. Kung may
pag agam-agam, consult the experts,
people who are familiar with this, or
educate yourself by reading about it.
We have to work together in order for us
to hopefully be able to get in a position
where we as a community can do more
of the things that we can do before this
pandemic started,” she said.
Meanwhile, Filipinos who already
got the shots express their utmost
gratefulness to the UAE for this
initiative.
Perdiz said that she has witnessed
the willingness of the UAE to provide
all the medical assistance that all the
residents need.
“I want to say thank you UAE! From
the bottom of my heart, I can truly say
we can defeat COVID-19 in UAE. We
are Safe!” she said.
Ayuso also recognized the relentless
efforts of the government in fighting
the pandemic, saying: “We would like
to acknowledge the continuous effort
and security measures of the UAE
government in fighting the pandemic.
Since the outbreak, we have always
felt the guidance of the authorities in
ensuring the safety and well-being of its
residents and citizens.”

the airlines until January 31, 2021,
except minors returning through

‘ASAP Natin’ To to air on TV 5 – report Fake reports on pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes’ passing swirl
Kapamilya’s Sunday noontime
variety show ASAP Natin ‘To will
air on the Kapatid network TV 5
Legendary player Efren “Bata” Reyes is
alive and well.
The family of Reyes issued the clarification
after news about the Filipino sports icon’s
supposed death circulated on social media.
To debunk the malicious news, Reyes’
daughter Chelo morning posted a video of
his father having a good time in their home
watching an NBA game between the Dallas
Mavericks and the Milwaukee Bucks, a
report by spin.ph said.
“Okay lang ako (I am fine),” the 66-year-old
Reyes blurted in the video.
Chelo said he had just taken his breakfast
starting January 24.
The decision comes after the
Kapatid network cancelled its Sunday
musical variety show topbilled by
Piolo Pascual, Maja Salvador called
‘Sunday Noontime Live’.
In a report on Pep.ph, the airing
of the Kapamilya program on
TV 5 is part of the two networks’
partnership in the coming days
ahead.
Brightlight Productions CEO
Albee Benitez, invited the public to
watch out for the “season enders”
of its Sunday shows, Sunday
Noontime Live or SNL and the gag
show Sunday Kada last January 16.
“Sunday Noontime Live (SNL)’s
delightful run is about to end, and
we await future endeavors from its
outstanding stars and phenomenal
newcomers,” Benitez said in a
statement.
“Sunday Kada will explore new
locales, exciting locations and
more laughs in the near future,” the
statement added.
Celebrity hosts of the noontime
show were former big talents of the
Kapamilya network, but transferred
last year after ABS-CBN failed to
renew its franchise.
when she posted the video.
Reyes’ family assured that the multi-titled
pool player is in good condition. The family
likewise lambasted the people behind the
fake news.
“To those who shared and read the
news that my father has died, please don’t
believe it. That’s fake news. To those who
spread the fake news, we will leave it up to
God,” said Chelo.
Reyes is a winner of over 70 international
titles and is the first cue artists to win

politician for alleged lack of support to
his children.

revealed in a lengthy Facebook post
that the “Gwapings” actor has been
neglecting their electric bills for several
months already.
“But the terrible part of this gross,
gross negligence is a father’s lack of
apathy towards his own children. That is
totally sickening!” Joy wrote.
Reyes went on to urge Yllana’s
followers to him his children are
“sweating in the dark.”

Former partner accuses Jomari Yllana of neglecting children
JOMARI YLLANA that his children are
sweating in the dark & this is making
it worse for Fangio who’s been having
fever for a few days now,” Reyes said.
Reyes also asked Jomari to stop
causing further trouble to her and their
kids.
“No matter what you do, because
of your selfish choices in life, you will
never be the one who will be by their
side every single minute of every single
day to come to their aid when they
need it. So the least you can do is to
STOP causing further trouble to the only
parent doing it all!” she said.
In the same philstar.com report, Yllana
replied to a social media user, which his
former partner shared on Facebook.
Reyes countered that Yllana was just
trying to “discredit the truth.”
