SPC Quiz – History

SPC quiz has become an integral part of SPC activities. Kerala Police started this very enthusiastic way of infusing knowledge in the minds of students since 2011. Kerala or for that matter India might never ever had witnessed such a mega quizzing event for school students, especially those who are coming from economically weaker sections of society.

This hunt for knowledge enthusiasts was known as “India First Knowledge Hunt – IFKH” till 2016. This year onwards, SPC is coming up with a totally new invention in quizzing. From 2018, IFKH will be known as “SPC Intellectual Marathon”. Intellectual Marathon will not be checking just the intelligence of the SPC cadets, but also their Physical and Emotional stability.

2011 Shri K Babu, Hon. Minister for Ports and Excise, Cricketer Sreesanth and many other dignitaries witnessed the thrilling Championship round of the quiz.

2013 Shri Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Hon Minister of Home, GOK inaugurated the event and the prize distribution ceremony witnessed galore of prominent people including Shri K C Venugopal, Hon Minister of State for Power, GOI, Justice C K Abdul Raheem Hon Judge High Court of Kerala, International volley ball player and Arjuna Awardee Shri Tom Joseph.

2015 Shri. Ramesh Chennithala, Hon Minister was the chief guest for the grand finale.

The specialty of the 5th edition of IFKH was live demonstration of environmental related projects which was done by SPC students themselves. And the most interesting part of them was that one round of questions for the grand finale was based on the projects exhibited in the venue and questions were prepared by the students themselves.

Objective of SPC Intellectual Marathon - 2018

Developing the civic sense in the students and develop into a better individual.

Instil patriotism in the minds of younger generation by understanding the rich history and cultural heritage of India.

Make them aware of the duties and responsibilities as a citizen of India.

Make them understand the need to know general things which governs the law of the land along with their normal curriculum.

Make them feel that it is not just curriculum knowledge that is going to help them in their career, but also the requirement of skill, good emotional strength and of course good health.

The modus operandi of the quizzing event is as given below.

Eligibility

8th & 9th standard students of all schools having either Kerala state syllabus or SPC.

Registration for Intellectual Marathon - 2018

Each participating school will select one team comprising of three members to form the school team through a process given below.

School authorities to select the respective school team.

The details of the selected school team to be informed to the SPC District Nodal Officer (contact details are given in the SPC website).

Process of selecting school team: SPC Schools should select their team by conducting a School level preliminary and final. Preliminary will be a written test and finals in oral. 12 normal + 6 SPC toppers of the preliminary will be selected and 6 teams comprising of 3 each will be selected for the school finals. It is mandatory that each team should contain 1 SPC.

The question papers and answer keys for the school level prelims and final (for SPC Schools only) will be provided from the SPC Directorate. Non SPC schools can conduct their own test for finalizing their three member team.

All the registrations will be through SPC website. All the prominent newspaper dailies to carry the news of opening up of registration in the website. Also, all DNO’s should ensure that all the schools of their respective districts are aware of SPC Intellectual Marathon-2018 by communicating with principals of all the schools in the district.

Step-1: School level prelims and finals to select the best team from each school.

Registration for Intellectual Marathon - 2018

DEO (District Education Officer) and DNO (District Nodal Officer) will be the co-ordinators.

Prelims and finals of district level to be held at a prominent school campus (DEO/DNO to decide) preferably in a Non-SPC school campus.

Prelims and finals to be held on the same date and time across all the districts in the state of Kerala.

Prelims to be conducted from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and Finals from 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm (for dates please refer page: 6).

Prelims will be a written test (30 Objective type questions) and district finals will be of oral type.

Quiz master for the district finals to be selected by the DEO/DNO.

All question papers for both district prelims and finals will be issued by the SPC Directorate to the DEO through DNO.

District Finals to be conducted in a Grand manner inviting all the prominent personalities, MLA’s, MP’s etc.

The responsibility of arranging / conducting the district level quiz will be on District Police Chief, DEO and DNO.

STEP-2: District level prelims and Finals to select the best team from each of the 19 police districts.

Best district level organizing of the quiz will be specially recognized in the award ceremony based on the report (along with photographs) submitted by DEO to SNO (State Nodal Officer of SPC).

Photograph and details of the participants of the winning team to be sent to the SPC state Quiz coordinator through email in the prescribed proforma (as given in SPC web site).

Contact details of quiz coordinator are given in page number 9 of this prospectus.

The grand final event to be held at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Kadavanthra, Ernakulam on Tuesday, 20th February 2018.

SNO will be the Chief Co-ordinator supported by District Police Chief, DCP (Law and Order), DCP (Administration), ACP of Ernakulam and State Quiz Coordinator.

Both qualifying and championship round will be of oral type.

19 teams to compete for the top 6 positions to qualify to the Championship round.

For the first time ever in quizzing history, Kerala Police is bringing together the knowledge and physical / emotional skills into one arena. This Intellectual Marathon will test the physical and emotional strength also of the finalists to determine the CHAMPIONS....

The Championship round of Intellectual Marathon 2018 will witness two rounds of games to test the patience level, emotional stability and physical strength of the FINALISTS.

Best Supporting Team

One supporting group comprising of 6 SPC Students from each police district should accompany each team in the qualifying round. Each supporting group has to bring and demonstrate a model (live functioning or simple model) in the venue (space will be 4 ft x 4 ft square) depicting any latest development in Science and Technology or Current Affairs (Political and Religious concepts in the model will not be entertained).

The models will be judged by an eminent panel of judges and those marks will also be included in the qualifying round to decide on the Final SIX teams for Championship Round.

Let’s together make this Intellectual Marathon one of the biggest Knowledge hunt the entire world had ever witnessed.
