Teams meet for 90-minutes two times per week for a 10-12 week session. The girls will run a 5K at the end of each session.

Use the provided website to locate a council that includes the county of interest. Start a site by visiting the county's GOTR local website and registering your school as a site. Cost includes volunteer coach training, CPR and background checks, and insurance. Girls receive t-shirts, water bottles, and entry into the 5K race. Scholarship teams also receive running shoes and healthy snacks for each lesson.

Description: Mind in Motion 2 is a fun activity that enhances perceptual motor skills, and is an excellent

resource for integrating physical activity into the classroom, before/after school, during rainy day recess, or as a

Physical Education warm-up. Students use an imaginary 9-block pattern on the floor to follow sequences of

lighted squares. As the different squares light up, students step or move a body part to the corresponding

square. 8 different sequences increase in complexity and length, providing additional challenges for all students.

All exercises are designed so that they can be performed in a classroom setting with very little instruction from

Description: Strong4Life and HealthMPowers are combining efforts to improve child wellness and address the childhood obesity epidemic in Georgia. Because Health and Physical Educators play a vital role in this effort, this training has been developed to equip Health and Physical Educators with evidence-based obesity prevention techniques to address concerns about weight, health, and fitness among all students. The primary focus is "Motivational Coaching" and goal setting for healthy behavior change based on FitnessGram results. The goal of the session is to discover how to better communicate with students and parents to choose healthy lifestyles in an effort to reduce childhood obesity.

This Health and Physical Educator training lasts approximately 90-minutes and focuses on coaching techniques, observational cues for when to employ motivational coaching techniques, and methods for using FitnessGram as a conversation starter. Walk Georgia Program

Description: Walk Georgia is a University of Georgia Extension program designed to promote physical activity. The free, web-based program allows teachers and students to track their physical activity data, set goals, and participate in the program as part of a group. Teachers can log class activity in one entry, or students (13 years-old and older) can create accounts and log their own activity.

The Walk Georgia program facilitates school-wide competition. Downloadable lesson plans with corresponding activities are in development with the pilot of a new version of the website on the way, school-related content for teachers continues to grow and will be loaded to the site in the fall of 2014.

Description: YEA is a recreation-based after school program offered for Atlanta Public Schools. Through this organized sports and fitness program, youth will learn all the skills needed to balance a healthy and holistic lifestyle. This on-site after school program makes schedules and calendars available the last week of each month for the upcoming month. Daily snacks are provided and at times will be part of cooking and nutrition activities. The program will run Monday through Friday 2:55 to 5:30 pm. YEA staff maintain a ratio with students of 1:10 or 1:20 depending on the activity as well as student needs.
