with the vision and mission of the institution
Nehru Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET) established in the year of 2006 by
Nehru College of Educational and Charitable Trust, Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore, with the
primary objective of providing quality engineering education. NIET has established excellent
collaboration with industries which has helped the students for becoming ready to go for
industries and getting placed in reputed companies. With its consistent performance in
Academics, Entrepreneurship and Placements, NIET has become one of the sought-after
institutions in Coimbatore.
To constantly improve the quality and standard of the education in the institution, the
following councils/committees have been formed with various stakeholders as members.

1. Governing Council
As a measure to maintain high standards of education, the Governing Council of Nehru
Institute of Engineering and Technology meets to review the progress and the scope for
further development
The Governing Council meets once in a semester and provides direction to the
institution on various aspects
By collating the input received from HoD’s, the Head of the Institution makes a
presentation to the Governing Council
Governing Council reviews the input provided by the Head of the Institution and
suggests improvement plan for the institutional development
The Governing Council discusses and approves/ratifies initiatives taken regarding:
Infrastructure requirements considering the growth of the institution in terms of
admissions, new programs and increased intake of students
Finance and Budget
Faculty recruitment
Analysis of examination results
Analysis of Placement Performance
Status of Research Activities
Academic outcome attainment
Revision of Institute rules and regulations
Composition of Governing Council
The Chairman of the Nehru Group of Institution is the Chairman of the Governing
Council. The Council consists of members from the Nehru College of Educational and
Charitable Trust, Experts from Industries, Academia, Nominee from Anna University, and
Faculty of the institution at Professor Level and special invitees as per AICTE norms.
2. Academic Advisory Committee
The Academic Council shall primarily be concerned with all the academic affairs of
the college which include infrastructure, academic staff, students, co-curricular
activities and discipline. It is the responsibility of the Academic Council frame and
implement the best practices in the Institution. The Academic Council of Nehru
Institute of Engineering and Technology is reconstituted with effect from 01.06.2018.
Responsibilities of Academic Council:
The Academic Council shall exercise the following functions:
Identifying experts from academia and Industry to support and enhance the quality
of academic programs.
Formation of a committee to all the academic activities including the curriculum,
recommendations for upgrading academic standards through IQAC.
Planning and executing for overall academic improvement of the college.
Budget preparation and recommendations to the management.
Procuring teaching requirements for completing academic and related activities.
Monitoring Teaching, Learning process, Evaluation of examination system and
supporting examination cell.
Supervising the functioning of the Central Library of the college.
Promoting research activity within the college and supporting Industry- Institute
collaborations (connect).
Supporting and promoting entrepreneurship.
Suggestion for better hostel management through periodic visits to hostel.
Ensuring discipline among the students.
Facilitating and supervising the co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities for the
students.
Encouraging students with awards, stipends, scholarships, medals and prizes.
Motivating and guiding students in order to utilize the placement and training
activities.

Dr. P. Krishna Kumar, CEO & Secretary, Nehru Group of Institutions welcomed all the
members of the council, addressed the note on technical education quality and insisted on the
need of the industry based training process, stating the action plan forwarded regarding NAAC
Reaccreditation Process and improvements required in raising the academic standards.
Dr. P. Maniarasan, Principal, NIET presented an overview of the entire development
activities carried out in the Academic Year 2019-20 reviewing the action taken in the previous
governing council meeting held on 05.12.2018, which includes the Academic Results,'""NBA
Accreditation Process, Usage of modern tool s, Student 4QQPtion Scheme, Faculty and Student
TrainingProgramme, Placements, Technical ana Non-Technica l Activities, fndustry Institute tie
up, Setup of Centre of Excellen~ etc.,

Dr. P. Krishna Kumar, CEO & Secretary, Nehru Group of Institutions discussed on the
strategies adopted for improving the admission process, academic pass percentage and training
programmes meeting the industry needs. The launch of website under the domain .ac. in, and
posting of college activities and placements in the websites shall increase the admission through
promotion of institution brand value.
Mr. M. Senthil Kumar, Managing Director, ARR Industrial products, Coimbatore insisted
on the importance of training programme on latest technologies to facu lty and students. He
assured on the conduct of one month industry based training programme to faculty members and
students with certification.
Mr. Lawrence Burer, NCPIR Placement Director requested for the conduct of training
sess ion for third year engineering students, thereby improving their confidence level and
motivating them in attending the interviews during their final year.
Mr. C. Aravind, Managing Director, VC Enterprises, Coimbatore discussed on the ideas
to setup industry based CNC and lathe works inside the campus where the students can be
mentored by the industry experts. He further insisted on student's motivation to develop projects
on their own providing solutions to societal problems.
Mr. S. R. Devadasan, Professor - PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore addressed on
the academic result improvement which has been a real time need considering University and
Parents. He appreciated the initiatives taken with regard to improvement in pass percentage also
requested to prepare students with answersfor previous university question papers. Competitions
for students and cash prizes for the regular academic subjects shall bring their interest in reading
subjects. Also, suggested to improve the faculty publication with regard to Research and
Development.
The members insisted on achieving good placements through the industry members
connected to the department through their Department Advisory Committee by providing
internships and placements which can pay way for improving the admissions for a certain
percentage.

Dr. P. Maniarasan, Principal insisted on the limited academic llexibility, faculties nre
further encouraged and motivated to publish papers in high reputed journals and also obtaining
various funding for the research proposals. Further the members discussed on the future plans
that include NBA Reaccreditation process and Autonomous Status for the Institution followed by
offering new programme and introduction of industry based curriculum.
Further the action points for the academic improve1nent activities ,:,,•ere summoned up and
the meeting was ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Deepa, IQAC Head, NIET.

ways how students can be trained on industrial based needs.

encouraged for the same.
Mr. Rajesh Chinnasnmy, Managing Director, Adhira CNC Product Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore has told that
skill gaps nct:d to be identified so that the students can be trained on it. In-house trainings will be
r;c nducted in the college as per the institutional requirements. Apart from this, the students can
be given physical training, yoga, an:! other mind development skills to encourage their
performance. Engineering principles and entrepreneurship has to be motivated equally. Doing
projects to be given more importance and benchmarking should be preferably on new
innovations.

Adv. Dr. P. Krishna Das - Chairman and Managing Trustee addressed the note on
technical · education quality and Dr. P. Krishna Kumar, CEO & Secretary insisted on the
enhancement in the teaching learning process stating the action plan forwarded regarding NBA
Accreditation Process and improvements required in raising the academic standards.
Dr. P. Maniarasan, Principal, NIET presented an overview of the entire development
activities carried out in the Academic Year 2018- 19 reviewing the action taken in the previous
governing council meeting held on 25.07.2018, which includes the Academic Results, NBA
Accreditation Process, Place.ments, Technical and Non-Technical Activities, Institutional Social
Responsibilities, lndustry Institute tie up, etc.,

approval: .

Mr. Udaya Shankar, Regional Lead, NASSCOM, Chennai discussed on the focus of
placement scenario quoting the future skills of students, based on the blooming IT requirements.
He insisted on the conduct of Faculty Training Programme in the recent trends irrespective of the
discipline, this has to be considered by the institution in order to adopt new technologies and
gain adva~ced skills both for faculty and students. Further he stated that the curriculum gap can
be filled by the add - on programme based on the industry perspective, the training programme
like NSDC Course Development, etc., was suggested.
Mr. Rajesh Chinnasami, ·Managing Director, Mis Adhira Products Pvt. Ltd ., Coimbatore
suggested on the inclusion of soft skill training sessions as a part of regular academic
consideration. This can be given by considering one paper every semester, which includes role
play management, business roles, management quiz etc., thereby building up the confidence of
students. Further the motivation on the same can be inculcated by considering the internal credit
scores for the sessions handled.
Mr. S. R. Devadasan, Professor - PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore addressed on
the academic result improvement which has been a real time need considering University and
Parents. He appreciated the initiatives taken with regard to improvement in pass percentage.
Also suggested to improve the faculty publication with regard to Research and Development.
Mr. P. R. Aruchamy, Managing Director, RABWINN Industries Pvt. Ltd, Coimbatore
pointed the need of communication skill for the students to sustain and progress in their career.
Further, Mr. Udaya Shankar insisted the faculty to have willingness to train themselves in
Advance Technologies by initiating the conduct of their own Faculty Development Programme
considering the training modules of the Industry, further coaching the students on the same.

further encouraged and motivated to publish papers in high reputed journals mid also· obtaining
various funding for the research proposals. For which , Mr. Udaya Shankar suggested to opt
sector council skills where the Industry Sponsor funding as their contribution to the Institution.
The Head of the various departments stated the training programs provided to the
students related to placements. The Member insisted to introduce Industry Advisory Board
where the corporate members who are in learning and development will help the students in
improving the technical aspects; the institution can also publicize their ac hievements through
corporate levels with the rapport on the concerned corporate team.
Further the member discussed on the future plans that include
NBA accreditation for eligible departments,
Permanent Affiliation for the Department of AERO and EEE,
Research Centre for all eligible departments

3. FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS:
• Projects in the area of Robotics and Internet or Things have rich funding sanctioned by the
government and other agencies. Thus faculty members should be encouraged to utilize the
resources such as Robotics lab and loT Lab and quality proposals can be submitted to such
agencies.
• Eminent industrialists and academicians with rich knowledge in funding can be invited for
special talks.
• Institutions which have sanctioned with huge funding should be visited and their best
practices can be implemented.
• An exclusive team to work with government and funding agencies should be formed and put
on role to effectively handle funding process.
4. PLACEMENT:
• The value added Courses based on Quality Process (1SO, .Environment Maintenance Science,
OSH- Occupational Safety and Health) to be conducted for students to increase
employability.
• Awareness on threat /challenges in placement (circuit branches) through software experts
should be conducted.
• Quality of student' s projects should be improved. Extra subjects in each program in form of
Activity based !taming should be scheduled.
• Entrepreneurship should be encouraged. It shall be concentrated in a way that placement 60%
and Entrepreneurs 40%.

• Category wise analysis on students result should be madt and solutions based on their
capacity should be taken.

• Time: constraints in completing syllabus should be solved by making presentation in forms of

❖ According to A.I.C.T.E in future Staff and Students ratio should be I :20 so that they can

Students shuulJ gt.:t counsel from the faculty regarding the coaching ur GA TE.
❖ They even suggested that 4 hrs should be maintained and from that 2 hrs will be for theory
and 2 hrs for activity based session. Considering projects 3hrs for project and I hr for
presentation. So, by the way of presentation, faculties should encourage the students to
create new innovations.
❖ Material placed an important role so the faculties should give different logics and proper
materials.
❖ First and foremost, faculties should be motivated. Workshops, Trainings, FDP, should be
orgw1ized for the staff members 10 know the basic problem~ in teaching.

❖ Different titles should be given for the students for their projects to create new innovation .

❖ Student of meritorious should be analyzed and should find their inner quali ties in order to
bring forth their efforts towards their innovations. Coll ege should ge t recognition for
providing funds for any good projects.
❖ Regarding placements common platform is needed, training sessions, activiti es, coaching
for aptitude should be conducted properly. They even said that govern ment target is state
working so Government Company opening has lot of pressure.
❖ ,\'t!ivisor suggeste~ that experli~e~clas~es -should be fo und, class ica l topics should be given,
and development of lab infrastructures must be indentified.
❖ Council members said that they can act as coordinators and can gi vc moral support to
enhance the activities which is going to implement in the future.
❖ Regarding AP J Club activities they were so happy and congratulated the team members.
They even want the members to give more preference to the remote vi I lagers to motivate
regarding bas ic education, aeronautics and robotics.

Student',\· admission, Academic, Placement, Value Added Courses, Co-Curricular and
Extra Curricular activities, Centralized Events and Clubs, Center of Excellence, NAAC
. rfJ accreditation, Annual Budget and Report, Infrastructure development, Maintenances,
Purchase, library activities, Research, Student Council details for 2015-16 are reviewed and
recorded that the quality have to he improved by taking pro-active measures for the academic
year 2016- 17.
1 n this connection, it is resolved to adapt the jollowini measures for improving admission of
students lo various pm5?rams.
I. STUDENTS ADMISSION
• Geographic segmentation based on south Tamilnadu, north Tamilnadu and Kerala should be
made.
• Efficient team should be identified and should initiate admission process with various
marketing strategies in concerned geographic area.
~ • Students shall be encouragetl to bring admission for their concerned department.
• Faculties shall be induced to spread a positive word of mo uth to facilitate admission 111
around area.
• Banner for placement record from 2013 to 2015 with students photograph shall be placed in
front of the campus.
• The advertisements for NIET shall be promoted during the time of counseling.
• ·r he scholarship and free seat for I 90 marks cut-off and above shall be promoted by the
HOOs and farnlty members.
• Sports and other ac;tivitics should be scheduled for school students in view uf' adm iss ion .
• The managemen t shall provide NOBLE training for the school students at low cost.
2. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
• All departments should work on improving academic performance.
• Minimum 70% overall percentage should be achieved by every department.
• Every individual faculty should produce 90% result in their concerned papers.
• HODs should monitor the academic performance, department activities and discipline for
students.
• Arrear coaching classes and classes for slow learners should be conducted.
• Every day first hour should be scheduled for test and students who fail in test should attend
retest in the evening hours.
• University question papers should be discussed and the repeated questions shall be taught to
students
3. PLACEMENT ACTIVITY
• · I 00% placement for eligible students should be the vision for every department.
• The value added Courses for II year and Ill year engineering students is must to improve
employability.
• The courses given shotild be basic corporate requirement in their respective stream to
increase placement opportunity.
• A placement cell exclusively for NIET apart from NCPIR should be framed and function to
conduct career guidance programs and personality development program etc. ,
• The concerned departments shall sign MOU with industries valuing their stream for value
added courses, thus shall induce placement in their organization to appreciate the course.
• Entrepreneurial skill to be imparted among students through ED cell.
• NCPIR should identify a list of 100 companies minimum in which our students shall be
placed and bind a rapport for effective communication.
4. fNFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
• Requirement as per NAAC and NBA new bµilding and renovation of infrastructure should be
proposed with budget estimation from various construction companies.
5. MAINTENANCE
• Maintenance in-charge for each floor should be identified and aspects regarding maintenance
should be recorded.
• A forth- night review shall be scheduled to all Maintenance in-charges with The Principal.

. 6. PURCHASES CONSUMABLES AND NON CONSUMABLE
• Department wise Budget on the requirements requested should be prepared based on
consumables and non consumables and it should also be ranked in the order of priority.
7. LIBRARY PURCHASE- BOOKS AND E-JOURNALS
• The requirement of Books and Journals to be submitted by all departments to the Librarian.
The librarian should also prepare budget including on line journals.
• Online journals like IEEE, NTPL shall be approached for college library.
8. RESEARCH ACTIVITY
• Director- Research shall conduct the research committee meeting periodically.
• Proposals to be submitted to the funding agency through research committee.
• Encourage faculty members and students to publish minimum 2 per semester in reputed
,. journals.
• The projects on process should be progressing effectively with regular review.
9. STUDENT COUNCIL
• The members should be selected on basis of highest CGPA 111 each department . and
recommended by the HO Os of concerned department.
• PG departments (MBA & MCA) should also be included as Executive Council members to
facilitate advisory activities.
• The student council members should effectively act on redressing issues in the institutions.
• The student council members shall report to Student council-Advisor if any issue and
clarification.
• They should be a representing body to bridge gap between management and students .•
• 10. VALUE ADDED COURSES
• It shall be made compulsory for all II year and III year students to take up the V AC.
• Alternate Saturdays shall be allotted for V AC. The program schedule will be planned for 35
hours. V AC can be scheduled on any one Friday in a month for better attendance of the
students.
• E box training and company specific training for circuit branches to be proposed.
• The concerned departments shall sign MOU with industries valuing their stream for value
added courses, thus shall induce placement in their organization to appreciate the course.

r 11. CO-CURRIC ULAR AND EXTRACURRICULAR
• The symposium and conference shall be centralized for all departments and shall be
organized for 2 days in order to effecti vely utilize working hours . In which all HODs shall
give their talk for maximum 5 minutes.
• Individual departments shall conduct maximum 5 seminars in which formal function is not
required.
• If department conduct workshop it should be organized for 2 days minimum.
12. INSTITUTION CENTRALIZED EVENTS
Avatar and Cultural fest, Onam and Pongal:
• Discipline should be the important concern in the function.
• Every department shall take responsibility for the disc iplinary ac ti viti es .
- • No students shall be invol ved in raggi ng, eve teasing, Alcohol consumption and usage of
unethical words during the program.
• . Students shall be suspended fo r minimum IO days if in vo lved in any mal- prac ti ce. The , A
suspension li st should be given by the concern HOD for Principal approval.
• Food token shall be issued by the department Academic coordinator In the
Auditorium/venue between 08.30 am to 09.30 am on the part icular day.
• An undertaking letter describing not to involve in any uneth ical acti vities shall be taken from
the problematic students in each department.

13. INSTITUTIONAL CENTRALIZED CLUBS/CELL
Photography Club:
• • Potential and interested students to be enrolled for the club.
• Events such as seminars, competition. exhibit ions to be organi zed.
• The coordinators should be aware of events at NIET in advance thus shall arranoe a student 0
to take photos.
NSS:
• lnterested students to be enrolled.
• Data bank for the blood donators to be maintained and scheduled when necessary.
• Events such as Temple cleaning. blood donation, eye check up camp, village adoption and
awareness camps should be organized.
r Rotarad:
• Club inauguration should be initiated and members should be enrolled .
• Details on payment and functioning of club should be collected.
• Awareness programs on road safety, AIDS should be organized.
· YRC/RRC:
• Documentary film on YRC/ RRC should be organized for first year students.
• Events such as health awareness, HIV awareness, blood diseases awareness exclusively for
girls etc should be organized.
Nature Club:
• Butterfly garden and herbal garden should be initiated inside the campus.
• Documentary film on nature for first years should be organized.
• • Event such as snake awareness in villages, seminars etc should be organized.

Cultural Club:
• Talent hunt should be organized to identify potential students.
• Outside programs should be scheduled.
Journal:
• Papers from various reputed institutions and universities should be invited.
• Next issue should be on august.
• International Conference abroad should be planned to increase brand value.
• Faculties should be sent across national border for conference presentation.
Carrier Development Cell:
• Should organize awareness programs to students in collaboration with corporate .
Energy Club:
• Process to proposing an energy park should be progressed and shall have a rapid
development in activities concerned to it.
Industry Institute Interaction Cell:
• The cell shall work to propose minimum three Industrial Visits in each stream to benefit
student's practical knowledge.
• It shall also facilitate students for the in-plant training.
• Guest lectures and workshops should be organized to understand Industry scenario.
All clubs should organize minimum 5 activities and documented the same.
