2022 Global Korea Scholarship

The Ministry of Education invites applications from Indian nationals for the 2022 GlobalKorea Scholarship which is being offered by the National Institute for International Education(NIIED) of the Govemment of Republic of Korea. The salient features are:

o Number of scholarships: 22 under quota for General Applicants under 'Embassy Track'. Number of nominations: 44 (Final Selection would be done by the NIIED).. Level of Course: (i) Master's, (ii) Doctoraland (iii) Research Programmes

2. As per requirement of the Government of the Republic of Korea, applicants need to comply withfollowing conditions before subrnitting the appl ication :

i. For proof of citizenship of applicants and parents, if there is no official certificate issued bythe Covernment such as birth certificate, then voter ID card (apostille) or passport copy willbe accepted. Aadhaar card willnot be accepted.Applicants who are expected to graduate must submit an official certificate of expectedgraduation certificate letter that indicates the monthidate of graduation.Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) must be submitted in one of the grading scales(4.0,4.3,4.5, 5.0 or 100 point scale). If applicant's grades need to be converted, they need toprovide supporting documents officially issued by the college or university.

3. The details on programs and universities, Eligibility Criteria (like nationality, degreerequirements, grades, age, health, etc.), scholarship benefits, etc. for this scholarship muy be seen atthe website https://www.studyinkorea.go.kr/enlsub/gks/selectBoardArticle.do . A copy oithe same isenclosed for benefit ofthe students.

o Apart from the above criteria, the applicant must also fulfill the following condition:

"Candidates who have already been abroad for study/training/specialization either onscholarship or on their ownfor a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply onty ifthey have been in Indiofor ot leost two consecutive years after returningfrom abroad ason 09.03.2021."

4. Students should download the application form booklet in word document format from thefollowing link: https://www.studyinkorea.go.kr/enlsub/gks/selectBoardArticle.do . Applicants arerequested to go through the application guidelines carefully before applying for thisscholarship.

5. Application:Applicants are required to apply online on the Ministry's application portalhttp://proposal.sakshat.ac.in/scholarship. The portal will be active from 21 February 2022 to09 March 2022.Applicants are required to submit four copies of the 2021 Global Korea Scholarshipapplication form available on the aforementioned Korean Government website duly filledalong with the supporting documents latest by I I March 2022 to the Under Secretary(Scholarships), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, 2nd Floor,Wing-6, West Block - l, R. K. Puram, New Delhi- 110066. Applicant must mention theirRegistration number, generated in respect of their on-line Application submitted onSakshat Portal of the Ministry, on the Top of Envelop containing physical Applicationand all other related documents.

6. Documents required:Scanned copy of the following documents need to be uploaded at the time of online

7, Criteria for nomination:. Priority for nomination would be given to candidates :

o Pursuing subjects related to priority areas like health systems, etc.o who are pursuing/have completed their last qualifuing exam eitherNational Importance (rND/ central Universlties icuy centrallyInstitutes (CFTI)/ National Assessment andCouncil (NAAC) accredited institutions.

' NIRF ranking/ marks obtained in graduation to be used as a tie-breaker in makingnominations.

8. Important notes:

' Employed candidates must obtain 'No Objection Certificate' from their employer. In case ofGovernment servant, cadre clearance is a must.

Q. I have a master's degree. Can I appty for a master's degree progam with a different maJor?Which degree certificate should I submit?

A. You can apply for a maste/s program while holding another master's degree.lf you are applying toa master's degree program, you should submit a degree certificate and academic transcript of yourbachelor's degree. ln this case, your CGPA of your bachelor's degree should meet the graderequirement of in the application guidelines. Q. lt takes one year in my country to get a diptoma after my graduation. Can ! apply with myprovisiona! certlfi cate?

A. The document you submit as a graduation certificate must indicate the date of your graduation. lfyour document certifies your graduation and allows you to proceed to a higher education, you mayapply for the program. However, universities may request scholars to submit their ofiiciai degreecertificate (or diploma) for an admission, so please double check with the university you are apptyingto.

Q. I am currently enrolled at a univercity in Korea purcuing Master's degree. Am t ellglble toapply for the Master's degree program?

A. You are eligible to apply for our scholarship program if you have not graduated from a Korean highschool or university. Those who have previously studied in a Korean university as an exchange orvisiting students can also apply if you have not aftained a degree with the prograr. However, if youare selected as our GKS scholar, you must drop out of the university you are cunenfly enrolled at andstart the degree program under GKS as a first year. The transiei of credits from your previousuniversity is not possible. Applicants who are residing in Korea may need to return to their owncountry in order to issue a new visa for their Korean language program/degree program. ln this case,their entry airfare will not be provided.

A. A yearlong Korean language program is an important part of the GKS program. All GKS scholarsmust take a Korean language program regardless of the curriculum of the degree program.

However, if you have already attained advanced level (Level 5 or 6) on TOPIK when applying for theprogram, you must submit your TOPIK certificate and be exempt from Korean language program. You

will directly start your degree program from September 2022.

scholars will have to live on campus (in the dormitory) with other roommates.Even with an exceptionalpermission to live off campus, TOPIK level 3 is required for GKS students in order to be eligible to live

1. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

O CtoU"t Korea Scholarship is designed to provide international students with opportunities to study at

higher educational institutions in Korea in pursuit of academic degrees, which will enhanceinternational education exchange and deepen mutual friendship between Korea and participatingcountries.

X As Korean Government Scholarship Programs have been integrated and branded as Global KoreaScholarship in 2010, the name has been changed to GKS (Global Korea Scholarship)

O Eligibility

o Nationality

All applicants must hold citizenship of NIIED designated countries that are invited to take part

in the GKS program.

- AII applicants and their parents must NOT hold Korean citizenship. If an applicant or

his/her parent(s) hold dual citizenship (one who have Korean citizenship and citizenship ofanother country), he/she is NOT eligible to apply.

- For Overseas Korean applicants (Embassy Track) holding Japanese citizenship, if their parents

hold 'Permanent Residency Permit' within Japan while holding Korean citizenship, they are

exceptionally eligible to aPPlY.

X Applicants and their parent(s) may hold different citizenship. Applicant's parent(s) may hold

a citizenship of non GKS participating countries.

X ApplicantJ and their parents who had previously held Korean citizenship must submit

documentation that proves their renunciation of Korean citizenship.

o Degree Requirements

- Master's Program Applicant: Must hold a bachelor's degree or a level of education

equivalent to or higher than a bachelor's degree.

- Doctoral Program Applicant: Must hold a master's degree or a level of education equivalent

to or higher than a master's degree.

- Research Program Applicant: Must have received an invitation from one of the parher

universities and must meet the criteria below;

. Postdoctoral Research Program: Must hold a Doctoral degree (by February 28,2022)

. Professor Exchange Program: Must hold a Master's degree AND must be currentlyteaching at a university as a professor

. Program for Education.Science.Culture'International Cooperation Professionals:Must hold a Master's degree AND must be a professional in a field of Education,

Science, Culture, or International Cooperation (E.S.C.L)

X Applicants who are expected to graduate by August 3fi,2022 can also apply for the

program with a certificate of expected graduation. (not applicable for applicants currently

in a doctoral program) Such applicants must submit their official graduation certificate (or

All applicants must have maintained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) equivalent toor higher than any ONE of the following from their previous dqgree program'.

* i.e.) If an applicant who already has a doctoral degree applies for another doctoral degreeprogram in GKS, his/her previous degree program will be a master's degree program

. CGPA must be above 2.6414.0,2.8014.3,2.9114.5 or3.2315.0

. Score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked within the top 20Yowithin one's class

If an applicant holds a transcript that does not include information on CGPA or is unable toconvert his or her grades into any one of the acknowledged GPA scales (4.0,4.3,4.5,5.0, or100 point scale), then the applicant must submit additional documents officially issued by theirrespective university describing the university's grading system.

Applicants who are expected to graduate should calculate the most recent CGPA at the time ofapplication.

All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for thefull duration of the program.

If an applicant is found to be in one of the following conditions, the applicant will bedisqualified in the final round of selection:

. An applicant is tested positive on drug tests

. An applicant who has a serious illness that prevents him or her to study abroad for longperiod of time including the full duration of Korean language taining or degreeprogram in Korea

X All applicants must submit 'Form 8. Personal Medical Assessment' at the time of application.All applicants who pass the 2nd round of selection must receive comprehensivi medicalcheckup and submit an Offrcial Medical Examination issued by a medical doctor or alicensed hospital. After arriving in Korea, all GKS scholars will be subject to a medicalexamination administered by NIIED. If a GKS scholar is found to have a serious illness fromthe medical examination after arriving in Korea, he or she will be disqualified from theirGKS scholarship

o Others

- All applicants must have no grounds for disqualification (e.g., criminal history) for overseashavel.
