intelligence briefings as one of thekey benefits of membership.
“The [AIB] market briefings areworth the modest annualmembership fee alone,” commentsone CEO of an AIB membercompany. “They fill in the gap that Isimply don’t have the resources tofill in these difficult economic times.”
With analysis of disparate globalmarkets, AIB intelligence briefingsprovide the latest information onwhich companies can start to makeinformed decisions. In addition, when AIB profiles a market, itprovides its members with a rangeof warmed-up contacts to help themdo business.
NETWORKING IS KEYNetworking at the most senior levelin the international media industryis another key benefit. AIB arrangesregular private, invitation-onlynetworking dinners, for example, inkey cities around the world, enabling AIB members to meetlocal media executives, regulatorsand parliamentarians, with a frankand off-the-record exchange ofinformation and ideas.
“Our networking events are greatsuccesses,” comments AIB CEOSimon Spanswick. “The discussionsoften go on into the early hours ofthe following day and we regularlyhear that business has been doneas a result of introductions AIBhas made.”
AIB recognises that not all its
members have the same budgetsnor do they all have large strategydepartments. AIB can help fill thosegaps through its carefully tailoredwork programme throughout the year.
AIB is building relationships inthe mobile content world to ensurethat as the mobile handset becomesa converged entertainment andinformation device, AIB members’content is delivered to subscribersin the world’s most importantmobile markets.
A number of members arealready benefitting from contactsmade and opportunities identifiedby the AIB at Mobile WorldCongress in recent years.
LOBBYING AND MOREIt’s important that AIB members’interests are represented at thehighest level of regulation andgovernment and AIB helps out inthis regard, too.
The AIB’s senior officials meetwith government ministers andhead of regulatory bodies, plusparliamentarians, to ensure thatany issues affecting AIB membersare communicated by anindependent organisation thatspeaks for a large section of theglobal media industry.
Regular close contact betweenthe AIB and its members identifiesthe main issues that are affectingthe broadcasting industry now andthe key challenges that it will face inthe coming years. The AIB works to
promote a sharing of knowledge totackle the rapidly changing world ofmedia and to promote andchampion high quality broadcasting, both in quality and in content - forexample, by highlighting howbroadcasters can utilise newsources such as user content andcitizen journalism while still addingreal value by providing context andincisive analysis.
