A virtual machine (VM) is an operating system (OS) orapplication environment that is installed on software, whichimitates dedicated hardware.The end user has the same experience on a virtual machine asthey would have on dedicated hardware.

What is?

∎ a free and open-source hypervisor for x86 or x64 computerscurrently being developed by Oracle Corporation.

∎ VirtualBox may be installed on a number of host operatingsystems, including: Linux, macOS, Windows, Solaris, andOpenSolaris. There are also ports to FreeBSD and Genode.
