Telling the Story of The First World War using infographics

The ‘D’ Word...

For many, history can be a bit, well...

...dull

The ‘D’ Word...

www.thegreatwar100.com

The general perception of history books are that they are old fashioned...

www.thegreatwar100.com

...That they are not necessarily written for the ordinary man in the street...

www.thegreatwar100.com

That they are just a way for the author to prove how clever and academically superior they are.

Whatever the reason, many people still do not know much about WW1

www.thegreatwar100.com

These days, history needs to adapt to modern tastes.

www.thegreatwar100.com

Attention spans are tiny.

www.thegreatwar100.com

People are after the history of the world in 140 characters, not 140 pages.

www.thegreatwar100.com

The general public are becoming less and less inclined to read those 900 page epics

www.thegreatwar100.com

They do not always require intimate details of every single tiny aspect.

www.thegreatwar100.com

They want a general overview that gets straight to the point.

www.thegreatwar100.com

in an easy to digest format.

www.thegreatwar100.com

that doesn’t take up hours and hours of their lives

www.thegreatwar100.com

but gives them a decent level of background knowledge

www.thegreatwar100.com

so they can hold their own in a conversation down the pub

www.thegreatwar100.com

Or perhaps be inspired to learn more about it in their own time

www.thegreatwar100.com

So, this got us thinking... What if you could tell the story of WW1 by using graphics instead of

words.

www.thegreatwar100.com

This could help bring history telling into the modern era

www.thegreatwar100.com

It would overcome the issues of short attention spans

www.thegreatwar100.com

and the need for 900 page epics that no one reads

www.thegreatwar100.com

it would give people just enough information but not drown them in detail

www.thegreatwar100.com

and would help people learn about the First World War as we approach the Centenary
