“I have many years of experience of managing services to people in their own homes. My role is to develop our service provision through strategic development of the company training programme, listening and hearing to what our customers want.

I believe that everyone has a right to remain living within their own home, receiving care and support that empowers people to choose the service they receive and maintain their independence.”

A qualied trainer will deliver the training programme to all new staff to ensure they are all aware of company

policies and procedures and that the care they deliver meets our standards and is safe.

We have always offered career development through training and additional qualications. This has now been

formalised into two clear development pathways, which includes apprenticeships for all staff allowing them to

grow and to develop a career in Health and Social Care through the following levels within our business:

Care & Compassion | Trust | Service

6

You Talk,We Listen

Here’s what they had to say about the rst few days

on training:

“Really good, very thorough, formative, it was very relaxed, you didn’t feel on edge or tense and you could always go back and ask questions or do activities again such as using the equipment’. ‘Before you started work, the staff were there to help you’. ‘It was just enough, it wasn’t rushed and I had plenty of time to do everything”

Once all new starters have completed their

training, they are invited to carry out further

education via online platforms that improves their

knowledge and understanding of the role, but also

gives them opportunity to reect on the

experiences they have gained in the rst few

weeks. This ‘reection study’ not only allows the

learner to understand the types of care that can

be delivered, but provides them with comparative

situations that the learner can take notice of and

improve their working ability or understanding of a

clients needs.

“There is no rush if you are late sending work in or too much pressure, they give you good feedback and a lot of the work is reecting on a client you have (with Dementia etc). You base your answers on your own experience so you understand the client better”

One of our recent learners had this to say about

their initial four day classroom event:

“The induction was great, it gives you such a condence boost, as a group you talk and learn about different situations, if there is someone who is shy, you urge them to get involved, it’s really good to build people's condence”

Want to know what it’s like on a usual shift? One of

our new inductees mentioned their usual morning

routine with the regular clients:

“I see the same person every morning, I enter using the key safe and keys (as not to disturb) and wake them gently before helping them get up, make the bed, wash and dress and then make sure they have received their medication before or after food”

What will the first few months in the role look like?

Below is part of a conversation we had with a new starter to nd out how things went when they started with Starcare.

“If you haven’t worked in care, it’s denitely very rewarding’ ‘I’ve not

worked in care before and I looked at how I would feel in their

situation, it makes it a lot easier and easier to understand”

The support we provide

Starcare invests substantially in making sure your physical welfare is being protected as much as possible by providing Personal Protective

Equipment that goes above and beyond the minimum standards.

Infection prevention is a fundamental part our induction training and forms the basis of providing the best care out there.

Alongside PPE, as a care company we promote access to Covid-19 Vaccine, we can support you with this and as a front line worker you can

protect yourself and your loved ones in the rst instance.

Care & Compassion | Trust | Service

The support we provide – Welfare visits/EAP etc

Starcare aims to provide a positive experience, from our rst phone call inviting you to interview, to your last

working day with us at the end of a colourful career. Therefore, in the rst few days after training you are invited to

‘shadow’ a friendly member of staff who will help guide you through your rst few hours working for the company.

In your rst few weeks,

Starcare Seniors are out on the road visiting you on the majority of your days to make sure that you feel

comfortable and condent in your ability to provide exceptional care.

There’s no exams involved, just truly experienced advice from an established member of staff. They will help the

transition from what you have learnt on induction, into putting your new life skills into practice. Seniors will also

support staff to develop care plans, understanding the expectations from each call and how to advocate for the

best interests of the service user.

Alongside your rota coordinators and our established ‘on call’ systems, they are there to provide support via the

phone. Once you have become a fully graduated member of the care team, HR are there to step in and provide

guidance and support for any work related matters such as supporting staff throughout the employment

lifecycle.

Our HR heroes have also implemented an interactive platform for access to things like mental health wellbeing,

counselling and resource materials to support your home life and general mental welfare. Amongst the 24

hour/365 day a year phone line if you need to chat, our employee assistance programme delivers further

discounts to help towards nances.
