We commend the leadership of Morehead city gov-ernment and Morehead State University for schedul-ing Tuesday night’s meeting with neighbors on theeast end of the campus.

Hearing firsthand from those who live near thecampus is a good start toward solving future prob-lems.

It also provides an opportunity to demonstrate howfolks can disagree without being disagreeable.

Dale W. Estep, 46, of Morehead,was arrested and jailed Mondayfollowing an incident at McBrayerElementary School.

Police said Estep allegedly as-saulted his wife, a teacher's aide,about 3 p.m. in a hallway of theschool following an apparent ar-gument.

He was charged with assault inthe fourth degree-domestic vio-lence and later released from jailon bond.

The arrest citation said Estephit his wife and she fell against adoor but was not seriously in-jured.

MPD officers were near theschool directing traffic when theschool resource officer called forassistance.

Police said Estep had a gun inhis truck but is licensed to carry aconcealed weapon. Officers do notsuspect him of carrying theweapon into the school.

Estep is scheduled to appearSept. 21 in Rowan District Court.

A family affair best de-scribes an upcomingfundraiser for the Na-tional Kidney Foundationby the patients and staffat Fresenius MedicalServices.

A bluegrass music con-cert is the main eventhosted by the dialysisclinic staff members whocall themselves the ThrillSeekers.

The concert is Sunday,Sept. 13, from 1 p.m. to 8p.m. at Debbie's MusicShowhouse, 8209 East US60, in Salt Lick.

Money raised from theconcert and several otherfundraisers will benefitthe National KidneyFoundation. There's alsowalks scheduled inLouisville on Sept. 27 andLexington Oct. 11,to raiseawareness of kidney dis-ease.

That was U. S. District JudgeDavid Bunning's final word re-garding contempt charges filedagainst Rowan County Clerk KimDavis, who continually defied in-struction to issue marriage li-censes in spite of her religiousbeliefs.

Davis said, “thank you, Judge,”as she was escorted by marshalsout of the federal courtroom inAshland.

She later was booked at theCarter County Detention Centerat Grayson.

The contempt charge comes afterDavis denied April Miller andKaren Roberts, plaintiffs in a classaction civil suit by the ACLU ofKentucky.

The couple went to the office toobtain a marriage license afterBunning's stay expired on an in-junction which ordered Davis tobegin issuing licenses.
