The Clayton Hotel

There is a new Clayton hotel bringing inner city food and entertainment culture to the ‘burbs.

After 20 months, The Clayton Hotel is finally opened for business to hungry diners and those wanting to kick back in the sports bar after a hard day’s work.

Owner operator Frank Golotta said the transformation from the L’Unico Hotel had been a labour of love to realise a dream he and his late father Antonio Golotta had shared.

Mr Golotta originally bought the Clayton Rd restau-rant in the early 1990s, applied for a gaming licence in 1997 and said “organically it grew into a hotel”.

But the duo sold it in 2000 and in 2008 when it came back on the market, Mr Golotta snapped it up to make their vision of turning it into a vibrant hotel a reality — and now includes a bistro, sports bar, and a function room.

“He would be very proud. it would have exceeded his expectations and a lot of this was for him,” Mr Golotta said.

“We exceeded the budget spend, we didn’t want to cut corners and do the job properly.”

Mr Golotta said he hoped Clayton residents would be happy to call it their new local.

MamakThree good friends, Alan, Clement and Julian wanted to open a restaurant.

Living in Sydney, they missed eating freshly made Roti Canai, sipping on frothy Teh Tarik and snacking on smoky Satay skewers. It was the food they loved from their youthful days in Kuala Lumpur.

They decided to put their corporate careers on hold, pack their bags, and travel to Malaysia.

Marae IzakayaMarae means ‘unique’ or ‘rare’ and lzakaya is a Japanese gastro-pub. Together, Marae lzakaya is a fine dining restaurant with a unique menu full of beautiful and mouth-watering surprises.

From the signature dish- a selection of nine flavours presented in a hand-crafted timber tray- to a grilled salmon smoked in natural wood paper, to hojicha gelato served in a timber sake cup and homemade soy sauce presented in individual syringes, each dish ignites the senses.

The interior design by Melbourne-based Kestie Lane Studio recalls home, with zones for casual seating, a sushi train, more formal dining and a bar with a sake master, as well as larger tables for special occasions.

Meanwhile, the kitchen is open, with chefs performing food theatre. A wall of hand-made fish-scale tiles references the food, with other beautiful finishes including brass, natural wood, marble and porcelain tile, while green cracked tiles reference the qualities of a traditional Japanese teapot

A unique experience, Marae lzakaya is a place to connect with food, fun and friends.
