Pastor’s Corner Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe, November 25, 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Solemnity of Christ the King!

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday (34th Sunday) of her liturgical year. It was Pope Pius XI who, in 1925, instituted this feast in the liturgy. He proclaimed“Pax Christi in regno Christi” - the peace of Christ in the reign of Christ. To live in the peace of Christ is to surrender our lives to him every day, accept him as our God, Savior and King, and allow him to rule our lives. Although Emperors and Kings now exist mostly in history books, we still honor Christ as the King of the Universe by enthroning him in our hearts and allowing him to take control of our lives. The Church presents Jesus as our King and Lord who was and who is the visible presence of God in our midst. The message for us today as we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King is that we are called to discover our hidden King and God in the sufferings. He is hidden in the lost, strayed, injured, and sick. To find him, we embrace a suffering humanity just as St. Francis of Assisi did and just as St. Mother Teresa did. The perquisite for doing so is to possess the love of Christ in-side of us. We cannot embrace hurting people unless the love of God prompts us from within. That embrace begins at home, in unselfconscious acts of generosity toward one’s husband, wife, family and relatives. Then this love of God, dwelling inside of us, can begin to reach out to all people precisely due to our awareness that the same God who lives in us is living in them. Let us give thanks to our Lord and King who shepherds us and who freely gives us everlasting love.

Please see the Annual Financial Report of the last fiscal year on page 5. I am grateful to you for your fer-vent prayer, love, generosity and support for our St. Cecilia community. May God reward and bless you and your family abundantly. God loves you, and so do I! Happy Solemn Feast!

With gratitude in and peace of Christ the King of the Universe, Fr. Bao

Donors: 929 Organizations: 19 Deferred gifts: $ 400,000 Pledged: $ 3,009,233 Payments: $ 1,041,987 We still need more families to make a pledge of any generous amount that one can participate. Please consider praying to God about the amount that you wish to make to our campaign. Realize that the more we have, the sooner we will be able to build. We hope to have a groundbreaking ceremony of the new Meet-ing Room building on the occasion of our parish 62nd Anniversary of the Dedication of St. Cecilia Church on June 19, 2019. May God bless us more.

Charitable Donations for 2018

There’s still time to make an IRA charitable rollover gift in 2018 to support all the various programs and

ministries you love here at St. Cecilia. Benefits:

. You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your tax de-ductions. . If you have not taken your required minimum distri-bution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of it. . You can support St. Cecilia from what might other-wise be the most highly taxed asset in your estate.

How It Works: . You must be 70 ½ years old or more at the time of your gift. . You may transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to St. Cecilia each year. . Contact your IRA administrator to transfer your IRA directly to St. Cecilia.

May God constantly bless you and your family, and may God reward your generously sacrificial gifts. For more information, please contact Deacon Bill at the parish office 714-544-3250, Ext. 12. Thank you!

Nuestra Fe, Construyendo Nuestro Fu-turo.

Campaña Capital “Vivir nuestra fe: construir nuestro futuro”

Mission News Mission News — during the month o November families usual-ly take time to celebrate the traditional holiday with family, friends and even some invitations are extended to complete strangers such as military personnel away from home. This is to acknowledge how thankful we are for what we have and we wish to share our thankfulness to God with loved one and oth-ers. This is a great time especially to remember retire Missionary priests, some of whom we have written about in MISSION NEWS this last year. Have you forgotten to pray for them? There is an old saying , “Out of sight, out of mind”.

To refresh your memories Father Richard Affirm of the Ho Diocese sent us information of retired priests he has gathered in one place, so he may take better care of them. These priests were in much need of housing and proper care when Father took over the task of gathering them under one roof.

This is about one of those priests — Rev. Monsignor Rudolph Amexo. He was born in Fofome in the Ho Diocese. He has been a priest for 48 years. He did live for awhile with his fami-ly, he is very sick with high blood pressure and a kind of amne-sia etc. He needs around clock care. He has been a pastor in many parishes over the Ho Diocese. He is very dedicated and very pastoral in his ministry.

Fr. Richard also adds that Monsignor Rudolph was like a father to him in he seminary and took good care of him with good guidance.

Please remember these retired Missionary priests in your No-vember prayers: Father Jacob Hevi, Father Theodore Ntsri, Father John Adumfo and Father Frances Homatekepor. Also remember to include our own retired Diocese of Orange priests in your prayers.

Remember to use the Blue Mission envelope for donations so the St. Cecilia Mission Ministry can continue to help Fr. Richard .

Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center Join fellow parishioners for a weekend of spiritual enrichment and growth at Mater Dolorosa will be held on, February 1 thru 3. The Passionist Retreat

Team offer inspirational talks on a theme, as well as time for quiet prayer, Mass, Reconciliation and Sta-

tions of the Cross. The theme for this year “Be Not Anxious! Living in the Peace of Christ”.

The retreat begins on Friday and concludes on Sun-day after Mass. Requested donation: $250. For in-

formation and/or to make your reservation.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

This prayer was composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1884. Saint Pope John Paul II even recommended its use to help in the battle against the forces of darkness as the Letter to the Ephesians speaks of “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” You find the prayer in English, Spanish and Vietnam-ese on the right column. For the protection of the Universal Church and our own Parish, our priests Fr. Bao, Fr. Ismael and Fr. Ni-colaus have decided that we continue to pray the pray-er until the day of the breaking ground of our new building and we pray this prayer at the conclusion of all Masses, between after the final blessing and dis-missal, and before the recessional hymn.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and

snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,

by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits,

who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen. ———————————————————

Oración a San Miguel Arcángel

Amen.
