It is a matter of immense pleasure and Pride for me to be a part of the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University

family as I/c Vice Chancellor.In the first place, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very healthy and Happy

New Year. I welcome all the students from all parts of India aspiring for PG degrees at Veer Narmad South

Gujarat University, Surat. We are aware that many of them have left the comfort of their home for their quest for

knowledge. On behalf of the entire VNSGU family, I assure the students that the University is committed to their

overall development. The University will provide a conducive environment for learning and research. It is also

committed to providing all the necessary support fortheir academic journey leading them to become successful,

productive,and responsible citizens who can play a pivotal role in building a Self-reliant India as envisioned by

Hon. Prime Minister of India – Shri Narendra ModiJi.

We are passing through unprecedented times, COVID-19 has disrupted every existing system, and education is no

exception. Despite COVID-19 challenges, the University has functioned to its optimum. We have been conducting

online classes, and we are conducting practicals off-line following the SOPs laid down by Govt. of Gujarat to

ensure that teaching and learning is not compromised at any cost. In addition to this, we have conducted off-line

exams, maintaining social distance for the safety of everyone. It is noteworthy that the University has strengthened

its IT infrastructure to meet the emerging challenges during the pandemic.

Moreover, the University has organized numerous webinars on Start-up and Innovations, NAAC, New Education

Policy, among others. The University is working on the action plan for implementing NEW Education Policy as

per the guideline by the State Government and Government of India. In short, we are not crippled by the pandemic;

on the contrary, the University is functioning to its full capacity. I can say this with a lot of confidence that the

University is striving to provide quality education for the benefit of our great nation. However, we can't afford to

allow complacency to set in;we will need to lift our gaze and focus on developing our next strategies aimed at

sustenance and enhancement of quality in higher education, keeping inview New Education Policy.

I take this opportunity to heartily congratulate the entire VNSGU family for keeping their spirits high and

remaining productive at the optimum in these testing times. I wish to thank the members of the Senate and

MESSAGE FROM I/C REGISTRAR

The University has its existence for about five decades and catering the need of seven districts in South Gujarat

region. The University aims to provide the students with adequate facilities for the pursuance of higher education.

Appropriately renamed as ‘Veer Narmad South Gujarat University’ after the name of Veer Narmad, who was

essentially a teacher and a social reformer. Our University is rooted in the soil of South Gujarat where some of the

most glorious events like the historic Dandi March took place. Inspired by the visionary social reformer, Veer

Narmad, our University is committed to cater to the needs of the South Gujarat region, including the remote tribal

areas.

Our committed, experienced and dedicated teachers with an aptitude for research in different areas of learning,

provide opportunity mainly, to Post Graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. students, not only to receive the information of

phenomenon but also to explore and examine the same from different perspectives by exposing them towards real life

situations and laboratory experiments. Adopting such an approach for higher education, our University is committed

to provide innovative solutions to growing needs of human resource development. Not only the academic milieu, but

our administrative staff is also committed towards achieving the goal of excellence in governance and overall goal

of serving the students to their utmost satisfaction.

Our campus is equipped with all basic amenities required in the journey of knowledge building. Our University has

excellent infrastructure facilities-Buildings, Furniture, Equipment, Internet, Libraries, Laboratories, Hostels,

Sports Complex and other supporting services. The University has wi-fi campus.

About University

The vision of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, as envisaged in the University Act, is to

contribute to the field of higher education in the region and enable its inclusive development in all walks of

life by making available trained personnel in various branches of human knowledge, keeping in mind the

larger goals of nation-building. The University is committed to maintain high standards in both

undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, promoting research and undertaking the requisite extension

activities that would reach out to every section of society.

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University has endeavored to be an institution of excellence in higher

education since its existence, keeping in view the regional needs and the emerging trends in the global

scenario. A semi-urban University located at Surat City, the University has a campus spread over 210

acres. The University has been re-accredited with A grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment

Council in 2017. The university was originally established under the South Gujarat University Act, 1965

passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. It became functional from the academic year of 1966

and was incorporated as a University on 23 May, 1967. Recognized by the University Grants Commission

in 1968, it was renamed as Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in 2004 after the great Gujarati poet

Narmad, Narmadshankar Lalshankar Dave. The mandate of the University is to meet the developmental

needs of the seven districts and two Union Territory in the region and attempts at realizing their potential

in every walk of life ranging from technology, business, industry and commerce to language, culture and

fine arts. The basic objectives of the University as envisaged by the University Act are:

Undergraduate and Post-graduate teaching, maintaining their high standards, and award of

degrees to the candidates successful in their respective examinations.

Promotion of research and extension activities relevant to the requirements of the region in

accordance with the interests of nation building.

Department and Colleges

The University‟s jurisdiction extends to the seven districts of Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Narmada,

Dangs, Bharuch and Tapi and the Union Territory of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. There are 24

Post Graduate Departments on the University campus that offers 95 programmes with multiple

specializations including 19 M.Phil.and 19 Ph.D. programmes. The University has 34 Government, 59

Grant-in-aid and 285 Self-financed Colleges and 39 Post-graduate Teaching Centres attached to

affiliated colleges. The University offers 36 Post Graduate, 4 Graduate, 3 integrated and 9 PG Diploma

and 5 Certificate programmes including self-financed programmes with semester credit based system at

university campus. In its Post Graduate Departments, more than 4000 students are studying on the campus.

The University has twelve faculties such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Education, Management Studies, Rural

Studies, Engineering and Technology, Medicine, Law,Computer Science & Information Technology,

Homoeopathic and Architecture & Design. In pursuance of its vision, the University offers an academic

environment conductive for the integral development of its students. All the departments emphasize

interdisciplinary areas of study that can open up possibilities in new fields of research. Several major and

minor research projects are underway in various departments. There are over two-lakh students currently

enrolled in various courses in the University including affiliated colleges.

Campus Profile: Infrastructural and Academic Avenues

The University campus spread over in 210 Acres of land. The campus houses more than 100

buildings. The infrastructure of the University is being continuously augmented to serve its students and

facility effectively. Following amenities and student centric centers are available on university campus.

University Central Library that houses over 203629 books, 1043 journals, 2333 thesis, 11271

dissertations, 7 project reports, 1796 e-books, 73 e-journals, 16555 back volumes, 5 databases and

5000 UGC Infonet online titles, has „Acharya Mahapragya Corner‟, „Pujya Mota Sahitya Corner‟, „OSHO

Corner', „Geeta Press Gorakhpur Corner‟ and 1799 rare books published before 1947. In the Library

which has good collection of volumes on non-violence and spiritual values. Library has journals in the areas



of Management & Administration, Humanities & Science, Science & Technology and Law. Valuable archive

of national importance.

INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS SEEKING POST GRADUATE ADMISSION

General Instructions

1. The application form must be filled in completely by the applicant. All columns must be filled in

with requisite correct information. If any information is not supplied or vague replies are

furnished or the application is found incomplete, in any respect, or any information furnished in

this application found to be false or incorrect or incomplete afterwards, it will be liable to be

rejected.

2. Only Certified copies of the mark sheets of First/Second and Third Year Degree Examination

passed with attempts (if any) should be attached with the application form and in absence of the

relevant marksheets, documents the application in liable to be rejected.

3. Applications must be completed in all respect and must be submitted to the University Post-

Graduate Department or P.G. Center/College concerned on or before the prescribed date as

may be announced by the University in newspapers.

4. The allocation of the students to more than one centre, if any will be made with due regard to

merit at the first degree. Candidates may suggest their preference for a centre.

5. Students selected for admission are required to enroll themselves at the respective Post-

Graduate Department / Centre to which they have been allocated and their names will be

registered on payment of the registration fee prescribed under the rules with the University

within a week of the date of the admission letter issued to him/her.

6. The allocation of the students to more than one centre, if any will be made with due regard to

merit at the first degree. Candidates may suggest their preference for a centre.

7. Registration fees, once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.

8. Mentioned and given fees is for one semester in each PG degree courses. In PG diploma courses

the specification is mentioned annual or yearly.

9. Student shall have to pay token fees for the confirmation of admission.

10. Students have to pay the difference of fees which is mentioned in the prospectus at later on

stage if the change is necessary.

Fees and refund

1. Students who want to avail admission will be required to pay full Tuition fees.

2. Registration Fees, once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.

3. If a student chooses to withdraw from the programme of study in which he/she is enrolled, the

institution concerned shall follow the following five-tier system for the refund of fees* remitted

by the student ( 05/03/2020 Syndicate resolution No 21)

Note: *

(1) In case of (1) in the table above, the HEI concerned shall deduct an amount not more than 5% of

the fees paid by the student, subject to a maximum of Rs.5,000 as processing charges from the

refundable amount.

(2) Fees shall be refunded by all HEIs to an eligible student within fifteen days from the date of

receiving a written application from him/her in this regard.



Transfer certificate and eligibility certificate

1. A student who is a graduate of the University other than Veer Narmad South Gujarat University

shall be required to obtain a certificate of Eligibility from the office of Veer Narmad South

Gujarat University (Academic Section) before he/she can be registered as a Post Graduate

student. If necessary he/she may obtain a Provisional Eligibility certificate before applying for

registration as Post Graduate student. The Final Eligibility Certificate should, in any case, be

obtained by the students before the end of the first term/semester of the relevant course.

2. The student himself/herself shall be responsible for presenting all the requisite certificates and

documents. Failure in doing so, may result in cancellation of his/her admission. No application for

refund of fee on account of the cancellation of the admission due to the failure of the student in

completing the formalities of admission in presenting any certificate or document will be

entertained.

3. A student seeking admission from any College or department of Veer Narmad South Gujarat

University shall have to produce a Transfer Certificate from the college or University Department

last attended by him/her.

4. A student intending to take Post Graduate Degree in a different subject from the one for which

he/she has been registered himself /herself afresh by paying the prescribed registration fee. Such

registration will be permissible only if an application in this behalf is received by the University

through the Head of the University Department / Incharge of the approved/ recognized Institution

in the new subject concerned latest by 31st August of the relevant academic year.

If as a result of change in the subject it is necessary for the student to change the Post Graduate

Department / P.G. Centre / approved / recognized Institution concerned his/ her tuition fee paid

earlier shall be transferred to the new Post Graduate Department / P.G. Centre / Approved/

Recognized institution where his / her name as a Post Graduate student for the new subject is

enrolled.

Attendance

1. The applicant should have passed the qualifying Post - Graduate Degree/Diploma Examination of

this or any other University in the branch of study to which admission is sought for. He/she shall

also declare that he/she has fully understood the scheme of Post Graduate instruction and that

he/she is willing to devote full time to his/her Post graduate studies.

2. The minimum attendance required for granting a term or semester of a student shall be 75% of

the total number of days on which classes have run in a given term/semester in each every. For

Post-Graduate classes 75% of attendance shall be counted on the basis of lectures and practical,

work, drawing, project etc. to be attended by a student. However, in case of a late admission

either on account of revision of examination or being on the waiting list of admission the

attendance for the first term/semester shall be counted from the date on which the late admission

is given.

A student, whose attendance is falling short by 40% in the first term of the academic year, shall

be required to attend classes in the Second term so that total attendance of the Second term shall

be 90% of the total working days of the Second term. However, this will not apply to that the

faculty where semester system is in operation.

3. A student who falls short of minimum attendance for keeping the term on account of sickness may

be condoned if an application is received by the University within three days of the conclusion of

the term through the Head/Professor-In-Charge of the Department/Centre/ the Director-In-

Charge of the approved Institution with a specific recommendation in each case along with a

Medical Certificate of a registered medical practitioner indicating the specific days for which the

student was under his treatment.

A Principal of a College/Head of University Department / Co-ordinator of Self Finance

Department or Self Finance Programme or the Director-In-Charge of an approved Institution is

empowered to condone the deficiency in the requisites attendance of Post-Graduate student who

is required to leave the department/centre/an approved Institution for the purpose of taking part

in university sports and other extra-curricular activities or in Inter-university sports on behalf of this



University, to the extent of the period for which he/she remains unavoidably absent from the

Department/Centre/an Approved Institution.

Note: For the P.G. Rule No. 13 and 14 the powers for condonation of debility in case of a self-

financed course shall be with the Dean of the respective Faculty who will examine this paper after

thewho will recommendation of the Co-ordinator of that programme is received.

Rules for PG Diploma courses

1. A student may pursue one Diploma /Certificate course simultaneously with any under graduate

degree course (Regular/External) of this University when their study timings are different and

subject to the conditions laid by the respective courses.

2. A student may pursue one P.G. Diploma / Diploma / Certificate course simultaneously with any

Post Graduate (degree) course (Regular/External) of this University when their timing are different

and subject to the condition laid by the respective courses.

3. A students may pursue any two (PG Diploma / Diploma/ Certificate) course simultaneously

provided such student is not pursuing any regular degree course of this University.

4. A student shall not be allowed to pursue LL.B. - B.Ed. course/ professional degree course

simultaneously with any other degree PG. Diploma / Diploma/ Certificate course or any other

professional course. However if the apex professional body permits, a students may simultaneously

pursue study of any of these courses, subject to the conditions laid down by the university.

5. A student may pursue any one under Graduate course/ P.G. course/ P.G. Diploma/Diploma /

Certificate course simultaneously with M.Phil. /Ph.D. degree course of this University and subject to

the condition laid by the University.

6. A student found committing malpractice in examination of any of these courses, shall be debarred

from the all courses he/she is pursuing.

7. A student can pursue two courses simultaneously, as stated above, only from this University and not

other University.

8. While taking admission a student shall have to give declaration as to which other course he has

taken admission in.

Merit Preparation

Admission to the Post - Graduate Degree/ Diploma course shall be given on the basis of priority

to be decided as under, except where there are specific rules for admission.

P. G. Rule No. 6 (3)

(A)

1. The merit list for a P.G. Programme shall be prepared by converting the C.G.P.A. into the

percentages.

2. For the students of other university the above conversion shall be made in accordance with

the conversion table of the respective University.

(B)

Admission to the Post Graduate Degree/Diploma courses shall be given on the basis of

priority to be decided as under. Excepting where there are specific rules for admissions

(i) Ordinarily first preference may be given to those candidates who have secured First class

or C.G.P.A. grades O, A, B, C with 60% or more marks at the Degree Examination of this

University. (without rounding off).

(ii) After filling in seats as (i) above, if any seats are available 20% or 5 seats whichever is

less shall be filled in from the candidates of other Universities having First class or as per

CGPA of the respective Universities with 60% or more marks. (Without rounding off).

(iii) After filling in seats as in (i) and (ii) above, second preference will be given to candidates

of this University who have secured atleast Second class or CGPA D Grade with 50% or

more marks (Without rounding off).

(iv) After filling in seats as in(i), (ii) and (iii) above, if any seats remain vacant, third

preference will be given to candidates of this University who have secured pass class

degree or CGPA E Grade with atleast 45% where passing head 40% or secured atleast

40% where passing head 36% (Relaxation will be given for reserve category candidates

as per existing government rules) or whatever the minimum eligibility decided for

respective course (Without rounding off).



(v) Lastly, if there are any vacancies left, the same may be filled in by admitting the

candidates from other Universities provided that they have secured atleast 45% marks at

the Degree examination or CGPA grade equivalent to more than 45%. (without rounding

off)

(vi) Merit list will be prepared on the following basis :

a) Full credit for the total marks obtained by the applicant will be given to him/her if

he/she has passed the degree examination concerned at the first attempt.

b) As per Resolution no. 93 of Syndicate, dt. 02/08-5-2018. If students clears the

semester 5 / 6 examination with more than one trial, will be reduced 1% for each

examination, maximum reduction will be 6%.

c) When an eligible student seeks admission in a subject which he/she has not offered as

a Principal subject at the graduate level, the Department/Centre or an Approved

Institution may give a selection test to such applicants. The selection test shall be as far

as possible an objective test.In the selection test personal interview shall not have

more than 10% weightage. The constitution of the committee for conducting the

selection test shall be the same as in P. G. Rule 6(1)(iii).

d) In the case of the candidates having obtained equal CGPA/ Percentage / Class at

the Qualifying / Final YearExam, placeof each such candidate, on the Merit List, will

be decided purely on the basis of higher External marks of 5th and 6th Semester. In

case, if this happens to be still equal, than the higher marks of 5th and 6th semester

(Aggregate). In case, if this happens to be still equal, than the higher External marks

of only 6th semester.

(vii)

a) For any programme of the University, If there is any centralized admission committee

of universities at state or national level than the rules of such centralized admission

committee should be followed.

b) University shall have the power to admit the foreign students directly. (Not NRI)

(vii) Students holding „B‟ or „C‟ N.C.C. certificate shall be given an additional weightage of 2%

in the aggregate marks/grades for the purpose of admission. Similarly, students who have

merit certificate under National Service Scheme for his/her performance at University

level will be given additional weightage of 2% in aggregate marks/grades for the

purpose of admission. Weightage of 2% in the aggregate marks/grades will be given to

the first/second/third winner having a certificate of Sapt-Dhara competition conducted by

state Government.

(ix) Reservation Policy announced by State Government of Gujarat shall be implemented for

P.G. Admission.

(x) If all the seats reserved for SC/ST students are not filled in by students from such classes

for want of applicants having marks required for admission to any Post-Graduate course,

such vacancies may be filled in by the applications belonging to the respective classes

provided they have passed the qualifying examination and the deficiency of prescribed

percentage of marks required for admission to any of the Post Graduate courses does not

exceed 5%.

(xi) The reservation of seats in each University Department / Post Graduate centres /

approved/ recognized Institutions shall follow the same formula as in (ix) above.

(xii) The reservation of seats and the relaxation of the minimum percentage of marks for choice

of branch /optional paper within a subject shall follow the same formula as in (ix) above.

(xiii)Intimation will not be sent to those applicants who are not selected for admission.

(xiv)After completion of the reserve category (S.C.-S.T.) admission process, If seat/s is/are

remain vacant of S.C./S.T. Category said vacant seat/s be transferred to S.T. /S.C.

category interchanging after transferring the S.T. /S.C. seat, if seat/s is/are vacant to the

said seat/s is/are be transferred to Open Category.

HOSTEL FACILITIES



Fresh applications must be made every year for admission to any part/session of the

respective Post - Graduate Degree / Diploma course and also for accommodation in hostel.

Five Hostels for Boys and Six Hostels for Girls are commissioned by the University and Hostel

accommodation is at present provided to a limited number of students. However, Principals of the

colleges, where the Post Graduate centres are located will be requested to provide Hostel

accommodation to out-of-town students as far as possible, for which the students shall have to

apply directly to the Principal of the concerned college. A separate application is required to be

submitted after getting admission in the respective course.

The Semester Fees and other Fees payable per term for Indian Students are as under.

REGULATIONS ON CURBING THE MENACE OF RAGGING

IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, 2009

If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the university authority, the authority would

expel him/her from the university.

Punishable ingredients of Ragging

• Abetment to ragging,

• Criminal conspiracy to rag,

• Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging;

• Public nuisance created during ragging,

• Violation of decency and morals through ragging;

• Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt;

• Wrongful restraint;

• Wrongful confinement; Use of criminal force;

• Assault as well as sexual offences or even unnatural offences;

• Extortion;

• Criminal trespass,

• Offences against property,

• Criminal intimidation;

• Attempts to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim (s);

• All other offences following from the definition of “Ragging”.

“Ragging means any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has

the effect of teasing, treating or handing with rudeness to any other student, indulging in rowdy or

undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or

to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any

act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of

causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or

psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

Punishment:

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging committee

of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall

be any one or any combination of the following:

• Cancellation of admission

• Suspension from attending classes

• Withholding/withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits.

• Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.

• Withholding results

• Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet,

tournament, youth festival, etc.

• Suspension /expulsion from the hostel

• Rustication from the institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters.

• Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution

• Fine of Rupees 25,000

• Collective Punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not

identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure

community pressure on the potential raggers.

(i) Tuition Fees and Laboratory Fees for Research guidance for M.Phil.and Ph.D. Degree shall be

the same as mentioned in (B) above. This Fees shall be paid to the University through the

College /Institution / University Department as may be applicable.

(ii) The University office / Department / Centres concerned (as may be applicable) shall collect

the Tuition and other Fees from the Post Graduate students (except Research students for

M.Phil. and Ph.D) Degree) as provided here under

For Time Limit

First Term/Semester

Within stipulated time prescribed in the admission Letter issued by the University for the Post-Graduate Degree/ Diploma course in the particular subject.

Second Term/Semester Within 15 days of the commencement of the Second Term/Semester.

The amount of Fees collected shall be remitted to the University office within one week after its collection except by the University Departments authorized to retain the Fees for the courses partly financed from the Fees by the University.

(iii) The names of the students who fall to pay the Tuition and Other Fees within the time prescribed in (a) shall be struck off from the roll of the P.G. Centre/ Department.

(iv) The Professor in charge of the P.G. Centre/ Head of the P.G. Department of the University may extend the Last Date for accepting Fees upto maximum of Ten Days giving reasons in special circumstances.

The Late fees will be accepted with payment of Late Fee of Rs. 20 per day. The admission of the student who fails to pay tuition and other fees before the prescribed date shall be treated as cancelled, unless exception is made in any individual case for genuine reasons by the Hon. Vice-chancellor.

Free-Studentships, Merit - cum - means Scholarships, M.Phil. and Ph.D., Research Scholarship,Protsahan Scholarships are awarded by the University to encourage the Post Graduate students in different subjects for which “MERIT” shall be the primary criteria.

SC/ ST / SEBC students have to submit the prescribed Scholarship form after getting admission within 7 days at concerned Department / College as per prevailing rules of Government of Gujarat.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

This is the only university department in Gujarat and second in India providing thorough education in biological aspects of a quatic environment to

students and researchers specializing in basic studies in aquatic resources. The department is vigorously involved in the research especially in the

thrust areas like Aquaculture, Pollution & Toxicology, Fish Cytogenetics, Aquatic Ecology, Hydrobiology and Fish biology. The department has so far

Department of Biosciences (UGC-SAP DRS-II & DST-FIST-I) is a premier academic and research institute of the South Gujarat region in the field of life

The department is one of the premier institutes of the South Gujarat offering the PG and research degree in Economics. The PG curriculum remains

Two flagship programs of the department - Master of Labour Welfare and Master of Human Resource Development were started in 1987 and 1995

respectively. Later on, the department has started various Post-Graduate Diploma courses and Certificate courses based on the need of the society and

industries. Five Years Integrated Programme in MA (HRD) was launched in the year 2015. The department introduces new courses and revises existing

courses as per the changing needs of the industry.A Centre for Human Development Studies has also been set up in the department to study the issues

pertaining to various aspects of human development. The department undertakes research-based projects from the government as well as from the

corporates. The students of the department actively participate in various curricular and co-curricular activities. The department constantly assists the

students to be prepared for the professional world. The department has an excellent infrastructure necessary to cater to the changing demands of the

professional world in which students are getting prepared to engage. It has a rich alumni association that regularly provides the inputs for improving the

curriculum development and teaching. The department actively organizes the seminars/conferences, workshops and training in the HRD and its related

The Department of English began functioning from June, 1970. It offers various academic programmes in English: Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of

Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The Department offers the core courses like history of English Literature, Women‟s Writing in

English, Indian Writing in English, Literary Criticism and Theory, World Literature in Translation, and Multidisciplinary Courses like novel and psychology,

and novel and history. Further, it also offers optional courses in Women‟s Writing in English, English Language Teaching (ELT), Indian Literature in English

Translation, New Literatures in English, and American Literature. The coursework of M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes includes core content courses in

Research Methodology, Modern Literature and Literary Theory, and optional content courses Like Translation Studies and English Language Teaching.

The Department has, at present, seven faculties in all, consisting of three Professors, three Associate Professor, and one Assistant Professor, out of which

six are recognized as Research supervisors for M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in English. The publications by the faculties of the Department address a

wide range of research in Humanities. The Department has had a large number of M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars to its credit, with research conducted in the

areas like British literature, American literature, Afro-American literature, Indian Writing in English, Indian literature, Comparative literature, English

Language Teaching (ELT), Translation Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Gender Studies, Children‟s literature and other emerging areas of interdisciplinary

research in Humanities.

In the recent past, in addition to the talks by eminent Professors from other universities, the Department has organized many national seminars in the

areas of Translation Studies, contemporary Indian drama, Children‟s literature, partition literature and English Language Teaching. A national workshop

on Gandhi‟s, Martin Luther King‟s and Alfred Korzybski‟s thoughts was organized in collaboration with Balvant Parekh Centre for General semantics and

Other Human Sciences, Baroda. Further, two international conferences have been organized in the areas of transla tion Studies and Alfred Korzybski‟s

General Semantics in academic collaboration with Balvant Parekh Centre for general Semantics and other Human Sciences, Baroda.

and other faculties.

Further, Department of English has the equipments for advanced pedagogy like Desktops 26, LCD Projectors 04, Digital Visual

The Department of Gujarati (UGC-SAP-DRS-I) is well-furnished and well-equipped newly established department and sanctioned by the Government of

Gujarat having donation from Mr. Hitesh Patel. Research work done at M.Phil. & Ph.D. levels include Inter-disciplinary Studies, Modern and Post-Modern

Literature, Feminism, Partition Literature, Literary Journalism, Comparative Literature, Post-Colonial Literature, Tribal Literature, Minority and Dalit

Department of Mathematics laid down its foundation jointly with the department of statistics and later on established as a separate PG department in

the university campus. Department has taken the leadership to implement PG courses in the field of Computer Science. The Department is well

The Department of Public Administration is one of the earliest PG departments of this university and the oldest University Department in the State of

Gujarat to offer PG courses in the discipline of Public Administration. The PG curriculum is relevant for students desirous of appearing in UPSC, GPSC

ABOUT DEPARTMENT

Mahatma Gandhi Department of rural Studies inculcates diagnostic abilities in the students so as to make them competent to identify the root causes of

the problems faced by rural people. It is one of its own kind of interdisciplinary department having strong roots in learning , research and extension.

The PG curriculum of the course is mainly classified in social science and agricultural science related subjects. From the ac ademic year 2013-14 the

department is offering specialization in Rural Development and Natural Resource Management at MRS. Department has organized a number of National

and Regional level seminars and workshops. Department is vigorously involves in census survey and social audit of an industr ies and village/ town.

The department has so far completed nearly 50 research projects and published more than 400 research papers and more than 20 books. Faculty

members have brought the honor to this department by working as experts in various state and central government agencies, com mission,

department and bodies. Student of the department is actively involved in the extension and co-curricular activities. The students of our department

prepare "Integrated Village Development Plan" using local resources. These plans can be used by the district administration f or development of

villages identified under Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The Department was established in 1970 as a joint Department of Mathematics and Statistics and mathematics section later got separated as a

separate department. The department aims to train students in the development and applications of Statistical techniques for analyzing data arising in

the scientific investigation of problems in various disciplines. It also provides first hand practical experience in handling modern statistical software
