● An Academic audit committee is

constituted and the academic activities

are well planned, monitored and the

feedback is obtained from students. The

academic activities for each semester are

planned well in advance and an academic

calendar and activity planner is prepared

and shared among the students and the

faculty members. The class student

suggestions are obtained by the regular

conduct of class committee meetings,

mentor counseling, and feedback

Student feedback mechanism on

Institutional Governance/ faculty

Performance

:

● A Class committee is constituted with a

faculty member as a chairperson who is

not handling the particular class. The

Principal is also a part of the class

committee. The chairperson is given the

responsibility of coordinating the

meeting and ensuring that the students

provide free and fair feedback.

● A proforma consisting of important

parameters pertaining to the teaching

learning process has been designed for

the purpose of collecting students’

feedback.

● The responses after the Electronic Data

Processing are analyzed by the HoDs and

the Principal. The feedback is

communicated to the faculty members

concerned wherever necessary, for their

improvement.

● Students’ feedback on value-added

programme conducted (for example

guest lectures, seminars, employability

camp, etc.) is obtained at the end of the

programme by distributing

questionnaires on the event.

● The inputs are communicated to the

faculty members through HoD by the

Principal for suitable improvements. The

inference is discussed with the faculty

members during the annual faculty

appraisal.

OBJECTIVE

To be known as a guiding force, a successful and motivational teacher, researcher and an

achievement oriented administrator. To work as an academician cum researcher in world-class

technical Institution or research lab on challenging and interesting problems to propose

acquainted highly competent and visionary solutions. The work should be exciting and motivate

me to come up with new ideas that will influence the way technology are used, and make a

positive impact on people’s life.

GENERAL INFORMATION

I, K. Porkumaran am Professor and Principal, Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, affiliated to

Anna University, Chennai, India. I have an outstanding academic record and received Bachelor’s

Degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University, India,

Master’s and Doctoral Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering specialized in Control

Systems from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. For my PhD thesis, I worked on “New

Algebraic Criterion for Analysis and Design of Linear Systems” and developed a frame work

and control strategies for Control Systems Engineering (Advisor: Professor Emeritus Dr. S N

Sivanandam).

I have 25 years of experience in Teaching, 19 years of experience in Research and Development

and 16 years’ experience in Academic Administration. I am actively engaged with Professional

Societies as Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow Institution of Engineers (FIE), Senior Member

IEEE, Life member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Biomedical Engineering

Society of India (BMESI) and Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Convened and

organized many Workshops, Conferences and Symposia and chaired several technical sessions

and the moderator for many scientific sessions in international conferences. I am a Mentor and

branch counselor for professional chapters like IEEE, ISOI, ISTE and BMESI. Published more

than 150 research papers and 11 book/book chapters, extensively in international Journals and

forums with good number of citations, 7 patents published, 475 Citation; 10 h -Index and 12 i10-

Index Factors and has handled a number of industry/government funded projects and schemes. I

have served as an editor and reviewer for many International Conferences and Journals of high

repute. My research areas of interest include Bio medical Engineering, AI, Machine Learning,

Deep Learning, Convolutional Neural Network, Image and Video Processing, Control Systems,

Modeling and Instrumentation System Design; I rendered my service as Academic, Governing

Council Member, Convener, and Member of Board of Studies for various reputed Institutions

and Universities. I have visited foreign universities at Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and USA. I

have to my credit, 13 Ph. D scholars completed their doctoral degree under my supervision and

three in progress. Also, I have received a grant in aid of more than One Crore Eight Lakhs from

various Government funding agencies and leading corporate like AICTE, DST, CSIR, ISRO,

DRDO, ICMR, ISTE, National Instruments, IEEE, etc., I rendered my service as member of

academic, governing council, Board of Studies for various reputed Institutions and Universities.

● Over 25 years of professional Teaching, Research experience in Instrumentation, mathematical

modeling and simulation of complex dynamic systems, image and video processing.

● Experience in Control Systems design, analysis, prototyping and implementation; using

Cultural activities : The fine arts club is conducting

functions in the college.

Regular competitions for cultural

activities like dance, skit, mime, singing,

quiz, adzap, painting, photography and

others are conducted. Students are

encouraged to take part in intercollegiate

cultural festivals and TV programs. Sai

carnival is the regular cultural fiesta of

the institution.

Sports activities : The department of Physical Educations

encourages regular practice of sports

activities. Separate bus facilities are

provided for day scholars for after

college hours practice sessions. Our

college has been achieving accolades in

Anna University Zone IV sports

meeting, by holding the number one

position consecutively seven times

which is a record.

The regular sports features include

annual sports meet, Sairam Trophy apart

from enabling students to participate in

intercollegiate and invitation

tournaments. Our institution has hosted

TIES in the academic year 2014-2015.

Literary activities : Literary Club is functioning in the

college. Competitions like elocution,

debate, etc., are conducted regularly.

Students are motivated to participate in

literary activities held in other colleges

and media. The students are encouraged

to study different languages through the

foreign languages club.

Magazine/ Newsletter : Annual College magazine called

MAGSAI is released. Half yearly

newsletter “Campus News” is released

by the college. Apart from this, a few

departments release their departmental

newsletter to highlight their activities

and achievement.

Technical activities/ TechFest : Technical clubs exists in each

department. Intra departmental/ inter

departmental paper presentations, quiz,

project competitions are held.

Students are motivated to participate in

Conferences, Symposium, Workshops

and others held by other institutions and

organizations.

Industrial Visits/ Tours : A Minimum of 2 Industrial Visits/

Semester/ Class have been arranged for

industrial exposure to the students.

Alumni activities : The Alumni Association/Chapters (registered and functional)contributes

significantly to the development of the

institution through financial and non-

financial means during the last five years

The Alumni Association was formed in the

year 2007, with the title “Sri Sai Ram Engineering College Alumni Association”

(Reg. No: 220/2007). The Alumni forms the

major strength of the institution. The alumni

meet is conducted once in a year, where the alumni from different branches of the under

graduate and post graduate programs will

join and share their views and give suggestions for betterment. This will be

hosted by the management generously. The

Alumni will be provided with mementos. This meeting will be mutually beneficial for

the institution and as well as for the alumni

to get an opportunity to meet with their

friends and the faculty to share knowledge and insights.

The alumni visit the institution for providing Guest lectures and seminars for the students

in their areas of expertise and motivate the

young minds. The successful entrepreneurs from our alumni are invited to talk on their

success stories and motivate on students.

The alumni help the final year students of the various streams of engineering, business

administration and computer applications to

get their project placements and summer internship in their companies or to assist

them through their reference.

They also assist the students to get placement in the corporate. The alumni

association and the regular meetings pave

the way for the successful placements of the students.

The institution signs Memorandum of Understanding with organizations that are

owned by the alumni and have frequent

interactions with the corporate world. This

helps us in keeping in touch with the current affairs in the corporate scenario.

Counseling Mentoring

Career Counseling : Faculty member act as counselors /

mentors to small groups of students to

guide them in their curricular/co-

curricular activities and in their

personal advancement as well.

Students are motivated to opt for

higher studies and take up competitive

exams like GRE, GATE, IAS exams.

Special coaching classes for the above

exams are conducted in the campus for

the interested and eligible students by

the training and development cell of

the institution.

Special seminars and workshops are

conducted for career counseling.
