Vocabulary is one of the most important language components that must be

learned by students because it is an essential means to conduct our communication

with one another. But students have difficulty in mastering vocabulary. It can be

looked from the passive students in class. Based on interview of the teacher English

the problem of the students is how to deal with vocabulary. Sometimes, the students

could master and always remember all the vocabularies learned at school well,

but after they have finished their study, they lose many of English words and only

limited numbers are remembered.

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is significant

difference of the vocabulary mastery of the fourth grade students of SDIT

Faidlurrahman Cendono Dawe Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after

being taught by using Fan-N-Pick technique.

This researcher hold an experimental research with pre-test and post-test to

an experimental group. The subject of this research is the fourth grade of SDIT

Faidlurrahman Cendono Dawe Kudus in academic year 2015/2016. The population

was limited into sample group by doing purposive sampling. Then the researcher

decided the fourth class as the sample of this research.

The result of this research shows there is significant difference between the

vocabulary mastery of the fourth grade students of SDIT Faidlurrahman Cendono

Dawe Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after taught by using Fan-N-

Pick technique. The mean of pre-test is 65.33 with standard deviation is 15.84. It can

be categorized as sufficient. Then the mean of post-test is 85.25 with standard

deviation 13.30. It can be categorized as good. There is improvement of both score.

To test the hypothesis, the researcher used the five steps model hypothesis testing.

The calculation used sampling distribution= t distribution, α = 0.05 two-tailed test,

degree of freedom = 11, and t (critical) = ± 2.201. The researcher got t (obtained) =

7.43. The null hypothesis has been rejected. It can be interpreted there is significant

difference between the vocabulary mastery of the fourth grade students of SDIT

Faidlurrahman Cendono Dawe Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after

taught by using Fan-N-Pick technique.

Therefore the researcher give suggestion Fan-N-Pick is effective technique

that can be applied by teachers for teach English especially vocabulary. by using this

technique it can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.

Kosa kata adalah salah satu komponen bahasa yang sangat penting yang

harus dipelajari oleh siswa. Karena dengan menguasai kosa kata mereka akan lebih

mudah untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang lain. Akan tetapi siswa mengalami

kesulitan dalam pemahaman kosa kata. Ini bisa terlihat ketika mereka pasif di dalam

kelas. Berdasarkan interview pada guru Bahasa Inggris, masalah yang dihadapi siswa

adalah bagaimana menyelesaikan masalah kosa kata. Kadang-kadang siswa bisa

menguasai kosa kata dan selalu mengingat semua kosa kata yang dipelajari di sekolah

dengan baik. Tapi setelah siswa selesai pembelajaran mereka kehilngan banyak kosa

kata yang telah dipelajari dan hanya mengingat beberapa kosa kata saja.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan apakah ada perbedaan

yang siknifikan penguasaan kosa kata siswa kelas IV SDIT Faidlurrahman Cendono

Dawe Kudus tahun pelajaran 2015/2016 sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan

tekhnik Fan-N-Pick.

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen dengan memberikan pre-test dan

pos-test pada satukelompok. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV SDIT

Faidlurrahman Cendono Dawe Kudus tahun pelajaran 2015/2016. Populasi dibatasi

menjadi kelompok sampel dengan melakukan pengambilan sampel dengan memilih

satu kelas berdasarkan tujuan peneliti. Kemudian peneliti mendapatkan kelas IV

sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini.

Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya perbedaan yang signifikan

antara penguasaan kosa kata siswa kelas IV SDIT Faidlurrahman Cendono Dawe

Kudus tahun pelajaran 2015/2016 sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan tekhnik

Fan-N-Pick. Nilai rata-rata dari pre-test adalah 65.33, nilai itu dikategorikan cukup.

Kemudian nilai rata-rata dari post-test adalah 85.25, nilai itu dikategorikan baik. Ada

peningkatan pada kedua nilai rata-rata tersebut. Untuk menguji hipotesa penguji

menggunakan lima uji langkah hipotesa. Perhitungan data menggunakan sampel

distribusi = t-distribusi, α = 0.05 tes satu ujung, derajat kebebasan = 11 dan t-kritis =

± 2.201. Peneliti mendapatkan t-obtained = 7.43. hipotesa nol berhasil ditolak. Hassil

tersebut dapat diartikan bahwa adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara penguasaan

kosa kata siswa kelas IV SDIT Faidlurrahman Cendono Dawe Kudus tahun pelajaran

2015/2016 sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan tekhnik Fan-N-Pick.

Oleh karena itu peneliti memberikan saran bahwa tekhnik Fan-N-Pick adalah

tekhnik yang efektif yang dapat digunakan oleh guru untuk mengajar Bahasa Inggris

khususnya kosa kata. Dengan menggunakan tekhnik ini, itu dapat meningkatkan

penguasaan kosa kata siswa.
