A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Welcome to the final show of our 2012-2013 FIU Theatre Main
Stage season. We have a wonderful evening's entertainment in
store for you with our production of David Ives's adaptation of Corneille's The Liar.
Just because this is the last Main Stage show of the season does
not mean that we close up shop until next fall, however. There is still a lot of theatre to see between now and next September. Our
next theatrical event is our annual New Plays Festival, which takes
place in DM 150 on March 22 and March 23 at 8:00 pm. Come
see staged readings of the work coming out of the playwriting
classes. This is the ground level where young playwrights cut their
teeth. Someday one of these students might become a successful
playwright, and you will be able to say "I saw that play at its very
beginning , when it was just getting developed." New plays are the life blood of theatre , so our playwriting students need all the
support we can give them . Admission is free.
We will be ending the semester with five nights of Senior Projects.
These events always play to a packed house , so if you decide
to come, you might want to come early to get a seat. More
information about the Senior Projects will be coming soon. Watch
for it on our FIU Theatre Facebook page and our CARTA News page.
Things are shaping up for a very exciting summer of theatre with FIU Theatre's Alternative Theatre Festival. The slots are being filled
up and an announcement of the slate of shows we are producing
will be coming soon. I can say that FIU Theatre alum s will be heavily involved this summer .
I will be announcing next year's Main Srage season at intermission
opening night of The Liar. I think we have a great line-up of plays for you to enjoy next year. I also wanted to let you know that FIU
Theatre has its own Facebook page, which is linked in to Twitter
and Tumb lr, as well as our CARTA News page, so you can always
find up-to-date news about what's going on in the department.
Our productions serve as our laboratory in which students put
into practice what they are learning in the classroom. Their talent ,
hard work, professionalism and dedication are amazing. We want
to thank you again for your support of FIU Theatre and hope you will enjoy seeing our productions as much as we enjoy
creating them.

The Liar
DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Theater is a collaborative art and this production of The Liar you see tonight
synthesizes the work of a great number of people. As in every production, the
dialog between director, designers, actors, and technicians formed what you see
on stage.
This production added another voice to the dialog. I want to acknowledge the
assistance of my Fall 2012 Directing class in developing this production. They
analyzed the script and staged scenes that showed me just how far this script
could go.
It made me happy to see our class work and production work go hand-in-hand and
everyone's varied contributions only made the work richer (and I hope more funny).
Enjoy the show.
