People And blessed be his kingdom, now and forever. Amen.

Celebrant Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are

The Collect of the Day

Celebrant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you.

Celebrant Let us pray.

O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and

govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ

our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The First Lesson All are seated.

A Reading from the Book of the prophet Job [38:1-11].

The LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind:

"Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

Gird up your loins like a man,

I will question you, and you shall declare to me.

"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.

Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?

On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone

when the morning stars sang together

and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?

"Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb?—

when I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band,

and prescribed bounds for it,

and set bars and doors,

and said, 'Thus far shall you come, and no farther,

and here shall your proud waves be stopped'?"

Reader The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32 Confitemini Domino

Please join in singing the Psalm.

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, *

and his mercy endures for ever.

2 Let all those whom the LORD has redeemed proclaim *

that he redeemed them from the hand of the foe.

3 He gathered them out of the lands; *

from the east and from the west,

from the north and from the south.

23 Some went down to the sea in ships *

and plied their trade in deep waters;

24 They beheld the works of the LORD *

and his wonders in the deep.

25 Then he spoke, and a stormy wind arose, *

which tossed high the waves of the sea.

26 They mounted up to the heavens and fell back to the depths; *

their hearts melted because of their peril.

27 They reeled and staggered like drunkards *

and were at their wits' end.

28 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, *

and he delivered them from their distress.

29 He stilled the storm to a whisper *

and quieted the waves of the sea.

30 Then were they glad because of the calm, *

and he brought them to the harbor they were bound for.

31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his mercy *

and the wonders he does for his children.

†32 Let them exalt him in the congregation of the people *

and praise him in the council of the elders.

The Second Lesson

A Reading from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians [6:1-13].

As we work together with Christ, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says,

“At an acceptable time I have listened to you,

and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”

See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! We are putting no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended

ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness

of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see-- we are alive; as

punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

We have spoken frankly to you Corinthians; our heart is wide open to you. There is no restriction in our

affections, but only in yours. In return-- I speak as to children-- open wide your hearts also.

Reader The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

The Gospel

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark [4:35-41].

People Glory to you Lord Christ.

When evening had come, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. A great

windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not

care that we are perishing?” He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still

no faith?” And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Deacon The Gospel of the Lord.

People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Nicene Creed

All stand as you are able.

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven:

by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,

and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Let us commend ourselves to God in every way as we offer our prayers and thanksgivings, responding to each petition by saying, “Lord, hear our prayer.”

That we may be a community of service, joining with Jesus in reaching out to our neighbor, reflecting his

saving and transforming ministry; let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For Michael, our Presiding Bishop, and Gretchen, Bishop of our diocese, that we may honor their episcopal and apostolic ministry and join with them in shepherding humanity to fields that yield a

fruitful harvest for all people; let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

That peace may flow throughout the nations of the world, bringing freedom and opportunity to the

oppressed of all nations; let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

7

That a holiness of spirit may prevail amongst the members of our churches, so that humility may override ambition and power, and the good of the common life be honored over the desire for personal

gain; let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For young people during these summer months, that through play and study, work and travel, their

curiosity for life may be aroused, and a sense of wonderment spring forth from their hearts and minds; let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For those who have given their life on the battlefield of war, that they and all the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God, may rest in peace; let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Christ has overcome our fear, so that in confidence we may continue our prayers.

Special intentions of the congregation, the diocese, and the Anglican Communion may be added here or before the formal intercessions.

The Celebrant adds a concluding Collect.

Confession of Sin The Celebrant introduces the confession with a sentence from Holy Scripture.

The Deacon then says

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Silence is kept.

Minister and People

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Absolution

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen

you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Peace

All stand as you are able.

Celebrant The peace of the Lord be always with you.

The Celebrant proceeds

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere, to give thanks to you, Father Almighty...

The Celebrant continues, offering our thanks for our redemption from the power of sin and death through the first advent of Jesus Christ in

the fullness of time, even as we looking forward to Christ’s coming in glory . Then the Celebrant says:

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of

heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Together our gifts make the work of Jesus Christ in this community possible. Thank you for your generosity.

Songs of praise the angels sang,

heaven with alleluias rang,

when creation was begun,

when God spoke and it was done.

Songs of praise awoke the morn

when the Prince of Peace was born;

songs of praise arose when he

captive led captivity.

Heaven and earth must pass away;

songs of praise shall crown that day;

God will make new heavens and earth;

songs of praise shall hail their birth.

And shall Christians fail to sing

till on earth Christ come as King?

No; the Church delights to raise

psalms and hymns and songs of praise.

Saints below, with heart and voice,

still in songs of praise rejoice,

learning here, by faith and love,

songs of praise to sing above.

Borne upon their latest breath,

songs of praise shall conquer death;

then, amidst eternal joy,

songs of praise their powers employ.

The people remain standing. The Celebrant continues:

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself…

The Celebrant recounts before God how from the dawning of creation, God has been revealed in creation and history, and most of all in the

Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. The prayer continues, recounting and remembering the Lord’s institution of the sacrament of the Holy

Eucharist at the last supper to feed God’s faithful people throughout this life and in the ages to come.

Then the Celebrant says:

Therefore, according to his command, O Father,:

Celebrant and People

We remember his death.

We proclaim his resurrection.

We await his coming in glory.

The Celebrant continues

And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all…

The Celebrant voices our prayer that the Holy Spirit will descend upon our offerings of bread and wine so that they may be for us Christ’s

Body and Blood. We also pray that the Holy Spirit will also descend upon us, filling our hearts with God’s presence as we prepare to receive

them.

The Celebrant concludes:

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the

Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

The Lord’s Prayer

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.

The Holy Communion

The Celebrant says the following invitation: The Gifts of God for the People of God.

The ministers receive the sacrament in both kinds, and then deliver it to the people.

All are invited to come to God’s table.

All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination, are invited and encouraged to receive Holy Communion.

Those who are not baptized, or those who do not wish to receive Holy Communion, may cross their arms over their chests to receive a blessing.

Following the invitation the congregation may be seated and then come forward at the direction of the ushers.

Communion is also administered in the side chapel where there are no stairs.

Gluten free hosts are available—simply hold your hands out with palms down to receive one.

If you would like to learn more about Holy Baptism, please speak to one of the clergy after the liturgy;

it would be our joy to walk with you as you enter into life in the body of Christ.

Prayer of Spiritual Communion If you are unable to be with us in person today, you are invited to offer this prayer of spiritual communion, knowing that Jesus Christ is

truly present to us, and the grace of the sacrament is imparted to us, even when we are unable to receive the sacrament physically.

In union, O Lord, with your faithful people at every altar of your Church,

where the Holy Eucharist is now being celebrated,

I desire to offer to you praise and thanksgiving.

I remember your death, Lord Christ; I proclaim your resurrection; I await your coming in glory.

And since I cannot receive you today in the Sacrament of your Body and Blood,

I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart.

Cleanse and strengthen me with your grace, Lord Jesus,

and let me never be separated from you.

May I live in you, and you in me,

in this life and in the life to come. Amen.

Communion Music Ave Maria Bach-Gounod

Post Communion Prayer

All stand as you are able.

After Communion, the Celebrant says

Let us pray.

Celebrant and People

Eternal God, heavenly Father,

you have graciously accepted us as living members

of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ,

and you have fed us with spiritual food

in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood.

Send us now into the world in peace,

and grant us strength and courage

to love and serve you

with gladness and singleness of heart;

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Blessing

The presider adds a blessing. The people respond: Amen.

Streaming Volunteers Needed

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Paul's has live-streamed all of our worship services for those who wish to participate from home. We are looking to form a small group of volunteers to assist with running the livestream each week. It's simpler than you might expect - the camera is controlled via iPad, and the livestream is started and ended by clicking a single button. Your help will ensure we can continue to stream, especially when Fr. David, who's been running the system until now, is out on paternity leave. If you're able, please reach out to Fr. David at [email protected], and we'll arrange for you to be trained!

Men’s Propers Breakfast

After a COVID-19 pause, Men's Propers Breakfasts have resumed each Wednesday at 8:00 am in the Guild Room! While faithfully attended by a long-time group of "regulars," these opportunities to study the week's scriptures together is open to all the men of the parish. A big thanks to Steve Stevens and the many others who have worked to regather this group for study and fellowship.

Holy Eucharist at Wheatland

St. Paul's has resumed offering a Holy Eucharist Service at Wheatland on the third Thursday of the month at 11:00 am.

It’s Scholarship Time!

Would you like to help our students with their college expenses? If so, here’s how. St. Paul’s students are now completing their academic year in either high school or college, so our committee is beginning to work on sending checks to higher education institutions our students plan to attend. Due to the past chaotic year and a half, we were not able to hold any type of scholarship fundraiser for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year.

So why do we need you to donate? Since 2007-2008, when we first provided scholarships to four students to 2021-2022, we will have awarded 107 scholarships to 37 different students. And this year we’re pilot-testing giving one scholarship to a deserving student in our local community. That means by starting with $500 scholarships to last year when we increased them to $1,000, we’ve awarded about $66,000 through the years. Not bad, right?

So after all we’ve been through, let’s all take a deep breath and relax. We’re still avoiding any indoor event for now—no donating and purchasing items, no planning, working and attending the event, no setting up and taking down! Instead of all that, the only thing we’re asking is for you to consider making a donation straight to St. Paul’s Scholarship Fund in the next few months. It’s your opportunity to invest in our amazing students!

So please consider donating to St. Paul’s Scholarship Fund now. It’s easy! Just write your check with Scholarship Fund on the memo line. Then put your check in the collection plate in the back of the church on Sunday, or deliver a check to the church office in person or by mail. Tanya can also assist you with credit card donations. A list of our scholarship students and the colleges and universities they’ve attended is on the atrium bulletin board. You can be proud of this impressive group of young people who thank you so much for your support!
