-{/*rrt U- -&rht*AGATHA CHRISTIE was born in Torquay, England, in 1890.Her early schooling was highly informal; the young Agathawas tutored by her mother who encouraged her imaginativeoffspring to pursue her natural talents for piano and voice.Later, at the prodding of a neighbor, Eden Philpott, thesuccessful novelist, Miss Christie tried her hand at writingand found her natural and lasting niche in life.

Miss Christie married twice: first to Colonel ArchibaldChristie of the British Air Corps, and later to Max Mallowan,a noted archeologist. Miss Christie accompanied herhusband on his periodic expeditions and one such trip gaveher the inspiration and background for her mystery novelMURDER IN MESOPOTAMIA.Agatha Christie was unquestionably one of the most prolificas well as one of the most successful mystery writers of alltime. ln addition to numerous short stories, she is the authorof 84 novels that have sold an estimated 350 million copies.Hercule Poirot, the droll little mentalwizard who is the heroof most of Miss Christie's books is one of the most famousand most admired of all fictional detectives.Nearly all of Miss Christie's books have been unanimouslyapplauded by the critics and have been outstandinglysuccessful with the public, but some of her famous worksinclude: THE MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT STYLES, her firstbook; THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD, which createda sensation for its then unheard of gimmick ending; andTHE ABC MURDERS. THE MOUSETRAP, TEN LITTLEINDIANS and WTNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION becameequally successful as plays, enjoying long runs in Londonand New York.ln all, twelve of her novels were turned into motion pictures,TEN LITTLE INDIANS being filmed in three differentversions. The latest Christie work to be macie into a motionpicture, MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (taken fromthe mystery MURDER lN THE CALIS COACH) was anenormous box-office success with an all-star cast.

While never really regarding herself as a novelist of majorimportance, her works, at the time of her death had beentranslated into at least 130 languages, 16 more thanShakespeare's works. She was also well-known for herbooks of poetry, children's stories and a scientific discourseon archeology. For her literary out-pourings she was madea Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1971.

It was following the creation of Dame Commander that shewas guaranteed a certain type of immortality when she wasasked to "pose" for the making of a wax f igure of herself tobe installed in the famous museum of Mme. Tussaud inLondon.Untouched by any trace of fatigue, the final years of her lifewere a continued out-pouring of her works. Enthusiastic-ally received by reviewers and readers alikewere ENDLESSN]GHT (1968), POSTERN OF FATE (1974) and CURTAIN(1 975).Agatha Christie, the "grande dame" of mysteries diedDecember 1, 1975, at the age of 85. lt was destined that hertwo famous detectives would not outlive her. ln CURTAINHercule Poirot was killed at the same spot where his careerbeoan in 1920 and the executors of her estate announcedtha-t it was Miss Christie's wish that a novel containing thedemise of Miss Marple be published following her death.

A London critic had this to say about Miss Christie: "She islike a perfect hostess serving hemlock at at cocktail party,carrying on as if nothing had happened until the last guestclutches his throat in agony and slumps shrieking to thefloor. lt is the best and most civilized approach to murder."

Tim has been seen at Taylor inJACQUES BREL, OUR TOWN, THE SCHOOL FORSCANDAL (Sir Charles), FREE TO BE...YOU & ME,and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Mendel). He isequally talented musically having traveled onesemester with Taylor's Morningstar and being ingreat demand as a pianist. His leisure time is spent

A sophomore from Glen Ellyn, lllinois, JODYLUXFORD, is majoring in Accounting/Systems.After graduation she would like to work in publicaccounting. Jody has never been cast in a playbefore but considers her new experience a lot othard work, a time of growth and oodles of fun. Jodyalso enjoys music, reading and needlework.

LORI MILLER is a junior from Elkhart, lndiana. Loriplayed the role of Queen Gertrude in Taylor'sproduction of HAMLET and previous to that hadappeared in LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE, THELOTTERY, SOUTH PACIFIC and THE LILIES OFTHE FIELD. Lori plans to be a special educationteacher and is an Elementary Education/Special Edmajor. She spends hei leisure time singing andplaying the piano, starring in theatrical productions,riding horses, playing racquetball and trying tosleep in the dorm.

Kalamazoo, Michigan is the hometown of f reshmanDAVID BURNS. Dave is making his f irst appearancein a Taylor production but has had previous roles inA THURBER CARNIVAL, SEE HOW THEY RUN(Clive) and HELLO DOLLY (Cornelius). Dave is aBusiness Systems major and plans to enter thebusiness worlci, possibly in the computer area. Heenjoys all types of sports and a wide variety of musicwhich includes being a member of the Taylor Men'sChorus.

JIM ALLAN is a sophomore at Taylor who callsTrenton, Michigan home. Jim has done manyexciting things, including waterskiing, hunting,backpacking and cross country skiing, but hadnever tried acting before being cast for this show.Jim is a Computer Science/Systems major and willpursue a profession in a related field aftergraduation. He enjoys photographyand all types otoutdoor recreation.

The well-mannered gentleman from Charlotte,North Carolina, is DAVE SHIPLEY. Dave is a seniorCTA major whose vocational plans range from aposition in radio or television to working with theYoung Life or Youth for Christ organizations. Daveis currently involved in Young Life,.is co-chairmanfor the Taylor Youth Conference and works as a D.J. for WTUC. His theatre credits include OURTOWN (Editor Webb), HAMLET (Laertes), SEEHOW THEY RUN (Clive), and THE MIRACLEWORKER (Captain Keller). Spare time is spentgoing to movies or playing racquetball.
