Company of the Immaculate

Sacred Art Open Studio

Older children and adults are invited to visit the St. Louis studio of sacred artist Gwyneth Thomp-son-Briggs as she completes a copy of Tiepolo's Immaculate Conception. This painting was com-missioned by members of the Oratory as a gift for Canon Coggeshall.

Brown Scapular Enrollment

If you have not yet been invested in the Brown Scapular, you will have an opportunity on Tues-day, February 2nd and Friday, February 5th after the 6:30pm evening Masses. Present your-self at the main communion rail after Mass to be enrolled in the Confraternity of the Carmelite Or-der by one of the priests at the Oratory. Please bring your own Brown Scapular!

De Sales Heritage Foundation

The DeSales Heritage Foundation is in existence since January 2018. This entity is a public chari-ty, tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3). All donations made to the Foundation are therefore tax deductible ac-cording to IRC Section 170. The governing in-strument of this Foundation provides that its pur-pose is to promote and support the restoration, preservation and improvement of our church building, an historically and architecturally signif-icant structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This narrow objective is meant to encourage companies, associations and other enti-ties that may not wish to support religion, as such, to contribute to the important cause of the restora-tion of our magnificent church.

Many corporations match donations made by employees to a recognized non-profit, such as DeSales Heritage Foundation. Please inquire about your company’s employee gift matching program and guidelines.

Farewell

The members of St. Francis de Sales Oratory already have the habit of welcoming and then quickly sending new Institute priests off to new apostolate assignments. A large part of the American priests have benefitted from your care and prayers at some point in their priesthood. And this care is not only limited to the priests, but is extended to our oblates as well. For the past two years, Abbé Lance Gerbig and Abbé Mark Halisky have been in formation in St. Louis. Dedicating their many talents to Christ the King by helping the priestly members in their daily apostolic duties in many different ways, they too must one day go on to help our devel-oping apostolates throughout the country. It is with this in mind that I announce that Abbé Lance Gerbig will soon be leaving us to help out Canon Da-vid Silvey at our apostolate in Columbus, Ohio. Abbé will leave February 15th. Please be sure to thank him for his important services to St. Francis de Sales Oratory during his short time here and wish him the best as he enters into new surroundings. Thank you Abbé and please know that you will be in our prayers! Additionally, we announce that Abbé Mark Halisky will continue to serve the St. Francis de Sales Oratory Community here in St. Louis. Oratory Cleaning

The Oratory Cleaning Crews put the church in or-der after the final Mass each Sunday. This involves light dust mopping and clearing the pews of handouts, etc. New volunteers will be most wel-come and can call the office at (314) 771-3100 to sign up.

Prayers for Oratory Members In your charity, please pray for members of the Oratory who may be in need of special prayers during these difficult times. There are members who are facing surgery in the coming weeks, who may be sick or recovering from an illness, who are experiencing loneliness, who may have lost a loved one recently or who just need prayers for added strength and perseverance in their lives.

Don’t forget to offer prayers of Thanksgiving for answered prayers and for all the gifts and graces that we have received. A grateful heart is a happy heart!

Prayer is always the right size and color and is the one gift that is often overlooked which we need the most and will have everlasting benefits.

Archdiocesan Guidelines

During the pandemic, the dispensation that was given by the Archdiocese of St. Louis concerning Mass attendance on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation is still in effect. For those who are old-er or who have well founded fear for their health, should in no way feel under any pressure to attend Mass at this time (provided, of course, that you do your best to sanctify the Lord’s Day religiously at home). Those who have flu symptoms or who have reason to believe they have been exposed to the virus should NOT come to church at this time, as an act of charity to others.

Our current occupancy limit is 50% which is set at 550 persons. To maintain social distancing we have roped off every other pew—please do not remove these dividers at any time. We have hand sanitizer and face coverings available for you in the 3 main vestibules.

Please pay special attention to wearing a mask while walking in and out of the church build-ing as well as when ambulating in the church itself. Online sign ups will be sent to Oratory members and posted online. All concerns should be directed to the Rector.

Missing Something?

Quite a few Rosaries have been left in the church or found on the church campus and turned in to the rectory office recently. One of these beautiful sacramentals may just belong to you! There are also several Sunday missals, mantillas, prayer cards and other religious items that have been left in the church. Please check the Lost and Found table in the church hall. All items not claimed by will be donated to charity.

Restroom Access

There is a small restroom located in the back of the church, Epistle side vestibule, and larger re-strooms in the church hall under the church which can be accessed either by the south elevator or by exiting the north entrance of the nave and contin-uing down the outside stairs that lead to the hall.

2020 Contribution Statements

On behalf of the entire community at St. Francis de Sales Oratory, I wish to thank you for your generosity and continued support during a most difficult year. May God reward your generosity.

To keep expenses at a minimum we will be print-ing contribution statements for all active regis-tered members of the Oratory which will be avail-able in the church hall (basement) on Sunday, January 31st. Please help us save on postage and pick up your family’s declaration at that time. If you prefer, we can email you your statement.

If you are not officially registered at the Oratory but would like to receive a printed statement then please contact the rectory office and we would be very happy to print you a tax letter. Please let us know if you have any questions.

kneeling and on the tongue. All visitors who are not of the Catholic faith are welcome to join us in prayer, but

are requested not to receive Holy Communion. Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine

and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the

Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion.
