We’lltidy up the gardens, assess the health of our plants andevaluate tasks for the year ahead. We’ll be removing wintertree cages, planting new bulbs, shrubs and flowers, andlearning about each of the different species assembled atthe trail. This is a great opportunity to gather insight foryour own projects, to remain involved at the trail and get ajump start on your gardens at home. Participants will gethands-on practice preparing gardens and tending toperennial plants to jump-start your own projects and helpin all of your yards and gardens to come.

We’ll continue to make a home for butterflies, bees andbirds at the trail, growing plants that feed the land and thepeople as one. This is a chance to get your first taste ofspring gardening, together in community! Join us as wecelebrate fruits, flowers, trees and the joy of good work.Last year, the trail surprised us with many berries thatbrightened the length of the trail. This year, we can expectanother new spectrum of color as our perennial plantsgrown into maturity. We can look forward to more berriesthis summer, and we may get to begin counting the numberof bird, bee and butterfly species that are making a home atthe Trail. This is for the good of all! Come one hour, one day,or join us for the entire weekend; whether you are a gardenexpert of an inspired beginner; there is a role for everyoneat the trail.Bring masks, gloves and any garden tools you may want to useand share.

DAY CAMP INFORMATIONOur main goal for Summer Day Camp is that our campers have the Best Summer Ever! Daily activities are designed toenhance each camper’s competence, connections, character, confidence and in the long term, their individualcontribution to our community. One of the ways in which we achieve these goals is by providing challengingactivities in both small and large group settings. In addition to swimming, sports and other traditional outdoorcamp activities, we provide experiences that connect campers to the natural environment of our town parks.

Camp staff is chosen carefully and trained to provide campers with a fun and supportive atmosphere. Our staffmembers facilitate an environment where campers can learn new skills, make friends, and most importantly developself-confidence. Newtown Parks and Recreation’s Summer Day Camps provide the opportunity for your child to feelsafe, run, sing, laugh and grow.

THE FACILITIESCamp is held at Treadwell Park, 47 Philo Curtis Road, Sandy Hook, CT and at Dickinson Park, 50 Elm Drive, Newtown,CT. The facilities offer a variety of amenities, which include playground areas, a picnic pavilion, tennis & basketballcourts, ball fields, skate park (Dickinson Park only), Pool (Treadwell Park only), and restrooms.

THE STAFFCamp directors and counselors are teachers and college students who have been camp participants themselves. Weinvest in advanced skill training for all of our staff, making them even more child-centered and skilled so as topositively impact the campers. We have returning staff each year, which is a wonderful indication of how much ourteam loves working at camp and with your children.
