Track 4: Business Transformation Driving OPEX Reduction Within the Premises – This session will focus on leveraging Compass software to identify and resolve potential issues within the premises. Common issues such as malware proliferation, the ever present “slow Internet” dilemma, and other common customer service pain points require modern diagnostic techniques such as those provided by the Compass suite of software applications. Fiber Economics Update – The confluence of new technologies and innovative deployment techniques with increasing consumer demand for high quality broadband services has fundamentally changed the deployment economics of fiber. Costs of deployment have dropped significantly, but more importantly the business case variables that have the most positive affect on the business case have changed for the better. This session will explore why the fiber business case has never been better. Regulatory Update: Rate of Return, Price Cap, and ConnectED – The rules of the Connect America Fund for Rate of Return and Price Cap companies continue to shift and change, and imminent line auctions may create significant new opportunities for many service providers to find subsidized entry into new markets. At the same time, new programs like ConnectED are presenting new opportunities for service providers. Our DC insider Tom Cohen of Kelley Drye will explore some of the most recent changes and how they may impact the planning horizon and, more profoundly, the business models of U.S. service providers.

Next Generation PON Update – Work continues in the global standards committees on next generation fiber access. Learn about the previously ratified 10G PON standards and the current work being done on the new NG-PON2 standard. BREAKOUT SESSIONS Track 1: Technical – Platforms All sessions in this track are repeated from Monday. See Monday Track 1 session descriptions. Track 2: Technical – Applications E-Series: Fiber – Bandwidth continues to grow at an exponential pace — doubling every two years. This rapid rate of growth is being driven by the proliferation of always-on, network connected consumer devices known as the Internet of "things" – and they are everywhere on your network, consuming bandwidth 24x7x365. This session will focus on the fiber solutions that not only allow you to compete – they allow your service offerings to dominate the competition and win. Here's the secret: It's not just about enabling more bandwidth. It's about changing the rules of the game to enable a better user experience. Join us to learn how recent E-Series fiber developments are enabling new applications through gigabit services and consumer premises solutions, while ensuring CAPEX and OPEX efficiency. Cable System Operators: Selected Topics and Discussions – Operators of RF video systems are increasingly viewing fiber access as their preferred broadband technology. Meanwhile, many telcos have bought cable properties to expand into new territory. This session will cover topics of interest to operators of RF video systems: Calix solutions for improved RF video performance over GPON, integrated RFOG/GPON solutions, and migration from HFC to GPON. Business Services – Businesses have always been a core customer segment for communications service providers, and with the explosive growth in cloud-based applications, it is increasingly important to look forward to how the communication needs of the business community will be met. This session will review the market for business services and take

Session Descriptions – Tuesday, October 29

a look at what makes a business service a premium service. The latest Compass tools for SLA monitoring and performance management will be explored. Track 3: Marketing Creating a Differentiated Broadband Experience – Calix will identify the components necessary to create a differentiated broadband experience. Service mix, subscriber visibility and control, customer service, and quality of service all play a role. It takes a careful balancing act to deliver on each of these components, but having a thoughtful strategy will help you win the minds and loyalty of consumers. The Connected Premises (Panel) – This panel discussion will go over the business and marketing issues related to two major areas in connected premises services: Physical security and monitoring and premises automation. Areas for discussion:

• The advantages CSPs have in offering these services • Building your own service versus using a partner with domain

expertise • Business models • Steps to launch the service • Impact on churn and bundling • Key impediments

IT Support Services (Panel) – This panel discussion will go over the business and marketing issues related to offering IT services to your residential and business customers. Areas covered:

• Setting the service demarc: How far should your support offering go to support your service, device connectivity to the router, and device and application issues

• The differences between residential and business offerings • Building your own service versus using a partner with domain

expertise • Business models

• Steps to launching the service • Impact on churn and bundling • Key impediments

Business Solutions Marketing (Panel) – From advanced IT services, cloud voice, and symmetrical broadband offerings, business solutions are an entirely different set of services from residential offerings. In this panel discussion, service provider companies and industry experts will showcase how they have differentiated their business services to capture market share in this emerging market. Track 4: Business Transformation Fiber Opportunities for Non-traditional Service Providers – The number of service providers building fiber access networks is growing, but they are coming from more diverse backgrounds. Municipalities, counties, electric cooperatives, WISPs, and new fiber based CLECs are all seeing the benefit of serving subscribers with fiber. Some of these entities go it alone, while others are partnering with existing operators to make sure their subscribers are served. This discussion-oriented session will focus on topics of interest to service providers new to fiber access. Privacy Issues for Service Providers – New software tools are allowing service providers unprecedented access into the home and business, providing an extraordinary ability to observe the actual online behavior of broadband subscribers. The opportunity in leveraging this information is enormous, but it also carries risks – both legal and with maintaining subscriber trust. Tom Cohen of Kelley Drye will explore the legal frameworks within which service providers will have to work in leveraging these new tools, and how other service providers have successfully managed their risk. Leveraging Compass for Business Transformation – The broadband subscriber is the prized asset of communications service providers. In order to maximize the value of this asset, they will look to minimize their operational expenses while identifying and driving new revenue

Session Descriptions – Tuesday, October 29

opportunities. To achieve these goals, service providers will need a level of visibility and control over the broadband service lifecycle that is normalized across all business functions – marketing, operations, support, and finance. Calix will highlight the Compass Command Center as a potential tool to help service providers maximize the value of the broadband subscriber. How to Leverage New Wide Area Wi-Fi Opportunities – The rapid growth of data in mobile networks has created significant opportunities for operators to create city wide, municipal Wi-Fi networks as well as event and stadium-based Wi-Fi solutions. This paradigm has prompted operators to ask how they can fully leverage these opportunities and increase ARPU across their broadband subscriber base. In partnership with Ericsson, this session will highlight ways for Calix customers to expand Carrier Class Wi-Fi in their geographies and use these networks to drive revenue opportunities and increased value for their subscribers. Track 5 Global Partners / Service Providers – This session for service providers outside of North America will focus on the Calix vision in global markets, highlighting common trends, challenges, key new market drivers, and the capabilities and structure of the Calix global support organization working in unison with our Calix Channel Partners. Training Deep Dive: Active Ethernet Troubleshooting Techniques – See description under P-Series in the Training and Certification section.
