Foreword

Buyer's Guide for SAP LBN - Freight Collaboration 3

With the proliferation of e-commerce rapidlychanging consumer behavior and the recentpandemic and its aftereffects, managinglogistics remains a complex affair. Supply chaindiversification helps businesses combatdisruptions better, reap multiple cost benefits, increase flexibility, and realize economies ofscale. However, the extended global networksalso make logistics processes complex.Shippers, logistics service providers, and freightforwarders need to collaborate efficiently toensure that raw materials and finished goodsarrive when needed at production plants orretail and customers.

Even for businesses that choose to focus ononly their core competencies, outsourcinglogistics to multiple players has resulted incomplex challenges for the network.Complicated communication, poor visibility andcontrol across the supply chain, reducedcollaboration, and lack of data-backed insightsare some of the pressing challenges thatlogistics networks encounter daily. Thesechallenges eventually degrade service levels, customer experience, and transparency acrossthe supply chain.

Buyer's Guide for SAP LBN - Freight Collaboration 12

Freight Quotation: In this process, an RFQ for ashipment can be sent to the carrier on SAP LBN, towhich the carrier can respond by either accepting thereceived RFQ as-is on SAP LBN, by proposing changes,or by rejecting.

Direct Tendering: In this process, the shipment isdirectly tendered to an SAP LBN carrier, to which thecarrier can respond by either accepting the receivedFreight Order (Shipment in TM) as-is on SAP LBN, byproposing changes or by rejecting.

SAP LBN enables shippers to define Docking Locationsettings where numerous Loading/Unloading points, business hours, and any other relevant information aremaintained.

Carriers can create Appointment Bookings for a givenShipment by selecting the Loading/Unloading pointsand the respective timeslots from available options.

Integrate with SAP Yard Logistics for Gate and Yardmanagement

Self-Billing: Shippers can enable the carriers to createdispute cases against the shipments (FO) for additionalunplanned freight costs, e.g., demurrage fees, accessorial charges, and other unexpected charges

Invoice Submission: Shippers can enable the carriers touse SAP LBN to enter and submit invoices for thefreight orders. Carriers can enter additional unplannedfreight costs, propose changes to existing charges inthe FO data when they submit an invoice. The systemautomatically creates a dispute case in SAP TM whenthe carrier submits an invoice containing disputeditems.

Predominantly, EDI integrations arepreferred. Although TM in S/4 has arobust foundation for theintegration, the connectivity needsto be established with each peerindependently which may requireextensive effort to implement aswell as the infrastructure tomaintain the communication.

As per SAP’s roadmap, CCP willretire by TM 9.6. Although being astable and straight forward solution,CCP requires each carrier toconnect a separate portal for eachshipper which may turn to becumbersome especially for high-volume parties.

SAP’s cloud-based solution takes anetwork-centric approach toLogistics connectivity which makesit easier to establish and expand. The recommended option for long-term in line with the SAP roadmapand the future industry trends.

Through an Uber Freight API integration, we can tap into real-time pricing data and anational network of freight capacity, transforming freight tendering into an intelligentprocess. Uber's technology is attuned to market conditions and adapts accordingly tobalance supply and demand in any scenario. By providing these real-time insights andusing marketplace technology to distribute capacity, Uber Freight can help companiesfast-track their digital operations. With the standard connection of SAP S/4HANA TMwith the Uber system via LBN, all SAP LBN customers can significantly benefit from thisintegration.

Shipments in S/4HANA TM are automatically replicated in LBN

Depending on tendering and visibility settings, Uber instantly responds with aquote amount and this information is passed to S/4HANA TM.

Example Process Flow

Orders are created and planned in S/4HANA embedded to create truckloadshipments.

Using the tendering profile and visibility settings, shipments are tendered tomultiple carriers via a standard XML interface.

InstaFreight instantly responds with a quote via LBN, and these quotes are passed toS/4HANA TM. Simultaneously carriers with maintained rates accept the load withoutediting their contracted rate.

The responses are received from all carriers for both spot and contracted rates.

We sent the award information message to LBN and updated the charges in the TMfreight order. Once the carrier or InstaFreight confirms the order, the confirmationmessage is also received in TM.

We compared the information and selected the best cost carrier.

With B2B Collaboration, project44 extends SAP Logistics Business Network with B2Bconnectivity to carriers via the project44 carrier network. project44 supports tenderingcollaboration, such as the request for quotation process and the subsequentsubcontracting of the freight order and confirmation process.

In the less than truckload scenario, you have pre-contracted rates with the carrier.Hence the carrier starts the dispatch directly without any RFQs. Once you send thefreight order from your SAP TM system, the system creates a shipment in project44,and the carrier begins the dispatch. Note that if you cancel the freight order in yourSAP TM system using the shipment ID, the system cancels the dispatched shipmentin project44.

LTL Subcontracting Scenario

As an ordering party, you create a request for freight quotation (RFQ) in your SAP TMsystem. The system sends the RFQ to SAP Logistics Business Network. SAP LBN usesthe data in the RFQ and creates a tender in project44 with the details of the origin, destination, truck type, and so on.Once the carrier responds to the tender from the project44 system, SAP LBN createsa quotation based on this response and sends it to your SAP TM system. Once youaccept the response, the SAP TM system sends a freight order for confirmation tothe carrier in SAP LBN for subcontracting, which triggers a dispatch in the project44system. When you send a cancellation, the system cancels the dispatch in theproject44 system. In your SAP TM system, you can control the requirement of a response from yourcarrier before the carrier starts the dispatch. If you do not require a response fromthe carrier, the carrier begins the dispatch directly after the system creates an RFQ. If you require a response, the carrier only triggers the dispatch after receiving thefreight order for confirmation.
