D8.10 - Report on Dissemination and Communication Activities PU-Public

1. Executive Summary

The deliverable 8.10 Report on Dissemination and Communication Activities compiles the tools, actions, procedures and results achieved during the two years of development of REZBUILD project. All these actions and materials were foreseen in the Dissemination Plan of Results (D8.2) which combines dissemination and communication activities to reach the general audience of the project: (designers, architects, R&D Organisations, SMEs, Tech providers, Construction Companies, Public/Private promoters, private consumers). For each audience, partners will try to work during the whole life of the project on a distinct strategy using targeted messages, means and language. The dissemination and communication actions gathered in the Dissemination Plan are being implemented from the beginning of the project following an elaborated strategy. This is key for its success. The Plan is deployed in three different phases:

▪ Building the REZBUILD brand (completed).

▪ Putting in value milestones, progresses and achievements (in progress).

▪ Disseminating results (in advanced stages of the project and linked to the Exploitation Plan of Results).

Since the launch of the project, the main progresses of the Dissemination Strategy have been the following:

▪ Design and implementation of the REZBUILD brand: logo, visual guidelines, unified style, easily

recognizable and identified with the main goals of the project and the refurbishment sector.

▪ Communication materials package. Partners have at their disposal all the needed materials to offer

information and communicate the project during their participation and attendance to events, public

relations with the Media, etc. A presentation video, a general brochure, leaflets, posters, roll-ups,

general presentations to showcase the REZBUILD project, and audiovisual materials have been

designed, produced and distributed among the members of the consortium and others new are in

preparation.

▪ Website, Social Media channels and newsletter. A Digital Marketing strategy have been designed with

the aim to attract as much as possible visitors to the REZBUILD website. Contents and news are updated

every month with topics focused on the main advances of the project, relevant events of the

refurbishment sector and related European policies. The REZBUILD community around the Social

Media channels constantly grows up.

▪ Work with Media. Milestones of the project have been detected with the aim of reaching the general

and specialized Media. This way, knowledge and information about REZBUILD can be shared among

Copyright info -Contract No. 768623 4

D8.10 - Report on Dissemination and Communication Activities PU-Public

industry, end-users and the general public. Media outlets are important generators of public

opinion.

▪ Internal and external communication procedures. Some procedures concerning the detailed tasks

have been elaborated with the goal of facilitating the roles and contributions of partners.

• Consolidation of the REZBUILD Communication Team. It has been formed to constantly coordinate and

improve the Dissemination and Communication strategy and involves technicians and the Marketing /

Communication Departments of the consortium members.

ZABALA is the responsible of managing the Dissemination and Communication strategy with the support of OVERDI as project coordinator, while all other partners are involved in the REZBUILD project Communication Team. Three years after the launching of the REZBUILD project the main conclusions about the Dissemination Strategy coincide with the fact that the Consortium has the main resources, tools and materials necessary to achieve the project objectives. The project has started the last phase, in which the strategy will be more focused on the dissemination of the project results such as the advances on the different three demo sites where the initiative is testing its technologies. In addition, the dissemination of more specific content and results continues through participation in online events, and local communication strategies. Other activities also continue such as clustering and networking with other Horizon 2020 projects in the construction sector, the relation with policy makers, and the creation of scientific publications. The balance since the kick-off held in October 2017 in Rome up to this moment is positive. The consortium has the tools and is creating on-line and off-line a community of users interested in REZBUILD, whose first contacts with the main Media of the sector in different countries have been established. The partners are very active participating in the refurbishment and construction sector events and this activity will keep proceeding and will be increased. However, the project has been impacted by the Covid-19 crisis, as it has many other areas. Part of the partners' activity has been hit, something that has been taken into account in the dissemination. Another field that has been particularly affected is the organisation and attendance to events. It is now impossible to continue communicating as before the pandemic, but the project has managed to adapt to the new situation. Thus, for example, it has been decided to carry out the events virtually, a trend that is growing and brings together stakeholders from all over the world.

2. Introduction

The Dissemination Plan of Results includes the actions foreseen in the tasks 8.1 Implementation of Dissemination strategy and 8.2 Implementation of the Communication strategy. Task 8.1 consists of two sub-tasks focused on the dissemination of the results of the project: the participation to scientific conferences and international journals (1), and the participation to the EU Events, Trade Fairs, Workshops and Cooperation with other H2020 Projects during the life of REZBUILD (2).

After 36 months from the beginning of the project, the dissemination of the results is being implemented as planned and following the previous indications given by the project officer. The first subtask has been launched and the partners are participating in scientific conferences and international journals.

The second subtask is on-going, according to a consistent Dissemination and Communication strategy that must support the achievement of the REZBUILD project goals and offer visibility on milestones and work done by the rest of the partners. The two tasks are focused on the interaction with stakeholders: scientific community, policy makers, and industrial stakeholders and members of the value chain of the construction sector. Task 8.2 includes four sub-tasks in order to launch the main communication tools and platforms for REZBUILD: the development of the project website, and presentation documents, newsletter campaigns, irruption in Social Media channels and the development of supporting communication means. In addition, the REZBUILD project has launched added value actions such as the work with Media, considering them one of the best vehicles to raise the interests on the project among the stakeholders and end-users.

The combination of all these actions and tools (complementary and reinforcing with each other) allows to deploy an integral Dissemination Strategy. In the next sections it will be described the progress made during the months 1 to 36 of the project for each of the sub-tasks. Copyright info -Contract No. 768623 6

3. Implementation of Dissemination Strategy 3.1. Subtask 8.1.1. Scientific Conferences and international journals

REZBUILD project is an Innovation Action, it is expected to develop a significant amount of research results which will be disseminated among different key scientific communities. Thus, Academia partners (CARTIF, ESTIA, SINTEF and UNOTT,) and partners with a special relevant RTD profile will dedicate strong efforts in publishing scientific papers under the framework of global recognized scientific conferences and journals. Some procedures were established:

▪ The identification of some journals and magazines as well as procedures for the fulfillment of Open Access

have been included in the Dissemination Plan.

▪ Periodically, a communication questionnaire has been sent to the partners with the aim of identifying

papers and articles foreseen.

▪ Follow up of Grant Agreement articles and procedure for the review of scientific articles and the approval

from the rest of the consortium. Until the publication of this report the following papers have presented or published by Comunidad de Madrid, SINTEF and ESTIA: Comunidad de Madrid

REZBUILD organised the webinar “Efficient buildings and houses: partnering for the SDGs and the EU Green Deal”, celebrated on 29th of June of 2020 in the framework of the 15th edition of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2020 (EUSEW2020). The event brought together the main actors of the construction sector (tenants, house owners, architects, construction material companies and public authorities) and gathered around 100 people registered. The speakers expressed their view on how their respective activities have been transformed in the last five year in order to be aligned with the SGDs. The participants also analysed which should be the next steps for the sector to fully contribute to the achievement of the European Green Deal targets.

Figure 1 EUSEW Webinar 2020

The webinar included the participation of Elena Ruiz, from the International Department of Forética, an organization focused on sustainability and corporate social responsibility and member of the CSR Europe; Fernando Sigchos, European Projects and Communication Manager from European Builders Confederation (EBC); Veronika Schröpfer, Head of EU Research Projects at Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE); Bonifacio Felix López-Rey Gómez, from the Orcasitas Neighbors Association (Madrid); and Alfonso Pescador, Senior R&D Project Manager from the REZBUILD partner Placo Saint-Gobain. It was moderated by Susana Garayoa, Communication Manager of the REZBUILD Project for ZABALA Innovation Consulting. The session was previously announced by a mailing to the media contacts and through the social media channels and websites of Rezbuild and Zabala Innovation Consulting. The video is now available online in the Zabala Youtube channel.

REZBUILD participated in the European Sustainable Energy Week, held from 17 to 21 June of 2019 in Brussels. Organised by the European Commission since 2006, the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is the most important European forum on renewable energies, and this year it focused its programming on 12 general themes on shaping Europe's energy future. REZBUILD was showcased in the round table "Scaling up Deep Energy Retrofit Markets Towards 2030 Targets" together with representatives of other H2020 projects such as RenoZEB, HEART, RECO2ST, BRESAER, BuildHEAT and P2ENDURE. They all shared the initiatives they are working with and how the results of the projects can be useful for stakeholders and end users in order to build a better energy paradigm in Europe. They also discussed how technology can be useful for building a renewable and efficient energy model, how a holistic European approach can facilitate energy transition and what are the main challenges for building renovation in Europe. 4. Implementation of Communication Strategy

4.1. Subtask 8.2.1. Creation of the logo, visual guidelines and presentation documents (templates)

▪ A REZBUILD visual guide was created before the launch of the project as well as templates for documents.

It includes a detailed illustration of the chosen logos, colours and fonts. It has been applied in project

tools, materials, internal documents of the consortium members, etc., to create a cohesive representation

of the REZBUILD project.

▪ The following templates were designed:

▪ A Word template for generic documents (deliverables, press releases) and another template for

publications to be printed in-house or digitally.

▪ Two Power Point templates.

▪ A video that showcases the main project goals: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYlk79pTqTM Figure 4 Visual guidelines and communication materials

The templates are being updated digitally to suit all. For future events, in the case they are physical, new

copies will be provided.

All these materials can be downloaded from the REZBUILD website: https://rezbuildproject.eu/resources/ 4.2. Subtask 8.2.1. Website

The website is the meeting place for all stakeholders interested in the project. ZABALA has created a website with general information about REZBUILD, demo buildings, results achieved, news and events. The website links to social media channels, newsletter and other interesting projects/initiatives.

Since the launch of the website, “News” section has been very important for the dynamization of the site ͘In this section news on the advances of the project, the sector and the events in which REZBUILD partners usually participate are published. Copyright info -Contract No. 768623 16

4.2.1 Evolution

Analyzing the data since the launch of the website (January 2018), a total of 8,836 visits have been reached. The web attracts new users, who have an interest in the contents of the site. This is demonstrated by looking at the pages per session they visit and the average time they are browsing the page. The most important access channel is the organic channel, which is the one with the highest quality in the sessions. In the coming months, this behavior is expected to continue. Observing the evolution of traffic received on the REZBUILD website between January 2018 and September 2020, there is a growth trend. Therefore, the evolution of the sessions does not have a clear behavior, but the amount of optimal sessions reached allows for an increase in traffic.

The website manages to attract new users every month, that is why the public that gets to know this project is increasing. The rebound rate remains stable between 42% and 72%. This information is good, since it indicates that users are interested in the content of the website and that they interact with it. A higher bounce rate would be worrisome, but the data collected is within the usual behavior.

Regarding the number of pages per session and the duration of the user's browsing, it remains stable and reasonable. By geographical distribution, 49.8% of the sessions come from Spain, meanwhile Italy is on the second position, representing 9.43 %.

4.2.2 Visitors

Regarding the origin of the users who access the REZBUILD website, most of them are from Spain. New advances in the technological platform and the

three demo sites of REZBUILD Project

• These progresses were reviewed in the annual consortium meeting of the European initiative, which was celebrated between the 10th and 12th of June.

The construction sector is the European largest consumer of energy (around 40%) and the leader in greenhouse gases emissions (around 36%). To revert this situation, the sector needs new methodologies for refurbishment to obtain Near Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB), in order to reduce the housing sector environmental impact. The REZBUILD Project, backed by the H2020 European programme, is aligned with the objective of creating a more sustainable construction sector. Since the initiative kicked off, the REZBUILD’s partners have been working on defining a collaborative refurbishment ecosystem focused on the existing residential building stock. To achieve that goal the consortium in charge of the project is developing a collaborative advanced platform based on the integration of cost-effective technologies, business models and life cycle interaction to different residential renovation typologies. The development of this technological tool and the three demo sites where the initiative is testing its smart and innovative technologies have made significant advances in the last year. The main progresses achieved were reviewed in the annual consortium meeting of REZBUILD Project, which was celebrated between the 10th and 12th of June.

In the meeting the partners addressed the status of the different tasks related to the work packages led by them. The definition of renovation strategies by the University of Nottingham has been completed. Also, the development and integration of open BIM files and tools within the collaborative refurbishment ecosystem was finished by RIMOND. ESTIA partner communicated the progresses achieved in the development of the refurbishment ecosystem based on an agile project management tool and definition of data management and the development of complementary front-ends according to the stakeholder profile. These milestones will be essential to the success of the project. In addition, REZBUILD Project’s meeting analysed the advances on the different three demo sites where the initiative is testing these technologies. These demo sites are residential buildings located in Madrid (Spain), Oslo (Norway) and Martellago (Italy) and have been chosen to cover 3 of the most usual residential building typologies in Europe and represent the most prevalent European climates (North-Continental, Central- Atlantic and South-Mediterranean).

the project

The partners of the European project REZBUILD have gathered recently at the facilities of PLACO Saint- Gobain in Madrid sharing the progresses made during the first 12 months

The consortium partners of REZBUILD met recently at the facilities of Saint-Gobain Placo Ibérica, one of the partners of the European project, on the first anniversary of the launch of the initiative. The day supposed a stage to share the progresses made during the first twelve months of the project and the discussions on the challenges that must be faced. The European REZBUILD project is based on strategies such as the fight against climate change, the energy

transition, the creation of quality and qualified employment in the construction and refurbishment sectors. Social aspects and challenges such as the energy poverty or the gentrification will be considered in this initiative funded by the Horizon2020 Programme of the European Commission. The main objective is to define an innovative and collaborative renovation ecosystem to achieve Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) in Europe. With the aim at achieving these goals, REZBUILD will develop rehabilitation processes, through a tool that optimizes the execution time of the works using BIM technologies, reducing the costs, and maximizing energy savings with different types of innovative solutions and developments. The developments and technologies of the REZBUILD project will be tested in 3 multiscale demo sites covering 3 out of 4 of the most usual residential building typologies in Europe and representing the most prevalent European climates (North-Continental, Central-Atlantic and South-Mediterranean). Residential buildings located in Madrid (Spain), Oslo (Norway) and Martellago (Italy) have been choosing by the project´s partners wit this aim.

The event in Madrid brought together the 13 partners of the consortium led by Officinae Verdi Group (Italy) and in which Vias y Construcciones, CARTIF, Comunidad de Madrid, Saint-Gobain Placo Ibérica, ONYX Solar, Exploded View and ZABALA Innovation Consulting also participate (all from Spain), in addition to ESTIA (France), SINTEF (Norway), OBOS (Norway), University of Notthingham (United Kingdom) and Rimond (Italy).

The first day of the meeting the technical session was dedicated to the evolution of the different work packages (from WP1 to WP8) that includes the project. To achieve the European objectives, REZBUILD considers a number of challenges to renew and obtain NZEB buildings considering the technical, economic, social, environmental and legal dimensions. To do this, it will develop advanced technologies for the renovation of buildings in a platform of common knowledge for decision making. This platform will bring together all interested parties involved in the process of housing renovation, from designers, construction companies, researchers and industrialists, consumers, as well as public/private owners. The project includes measures of participation, information and commitment for all the value chain of the construction sector and citizens. The initiative will promote innovation in the construction sector with the integration of technologies to achieve the objective of an annual renewal rate of 2.5%, above the current one, lower than the 1%. In this sense, REZBUILD will base its renewal ecosystem on the integration of profitable technologies, business models and life cycle interaction in various types of residential renovation and interconnecting both the renovation stages of buildings and the agents involved in the whole process. The expected impacts of REZBUILD are the following:

• Reduction of at least 60% of energy consumption to achieve the goal of renovating buildings and ensuring that they are almost nil in terms of energy consumption. • Reduction of the execution time by at least 30% compared to a traditional restoration. • A period of amortization of the investment of less than 12 years and exceeding the requirement of the call (15 years). • Achieve a high potential for replication and high absorption capacity by the market. • Promotion of new business and employment opportunities based on the technologies developed in the project.

In this way, the demonstration experience in Madrid, together with those planned in Norway and Italy, will serve to validate if these objectives are met and housing buildings are replicated. Copyright info -Contract No. 768623 57

Copyright info -Contract No. 768623 60

D8.10 - Report on Dissemination and Communication Activities PU-Public

▪ This new initiative will develop a refurbishment methodology managed by a common decision making

platform that will interconnect key steps and stakeholders of the retrofitting plan REZBUILD project (Refurbishment decision making platform through advanced technologies for near Zero Energy Building Renovation) is a new European initiative funded by the Horizon2020 Programme of the European Commission that grows with the main aim of defining an innovative and collaborative refurbishment ecosystem for transforming RE assets into Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB). The construction market has entered a phase of recovery after the global financial crisis and it is time to face new challenges: encouraging a high-technologized sector which turns Energy Efficiency into a sustainable business. This is one of the strategies that the European Union follows to improve their energy efficiency, boosting their competitiveness and facing social challenges. The construction sector is the highest energy consumer (about 40 %) and main contributor to GHG emissions (about 36 %) in Europe. At this stage, tackling refurbishment of existing residential buildings (historic buildings included) is a top priority and decarbonisation is the main goal aligned with the European energy and climate change policies. In this context a number of challenges have been set for NZEB renovation taking into account all stakeholders involved through five pillars: technical, economical, social, environmental and legal. Nowadays, NZEB renovation methodologies are required as one of the key enablers supported by Horizon 2020 Framework Programme in order to promote business research and innovation through energy-efficient buildings.

REZBUILD will address these challenges by opening the construction sector with the integration of innovation technologies to pave the way towards an annual renovation rate of 2,5% instead of current rates lower than 1%. The project have the goal of reducing at least 60% of primary energy as well as the reduction of the installation time at least a 30% in comparison with traditional refurbishment works.

In order to achieve these goals REZBUILD will base its refurbishment ecosystem on the integration of cost- effective technologies, business models and life cycle interaction to diverse residential renovation typologies and interconnecting both building renovation stages and stakeholders.

D8.10 - Report on Dissemination and Communication Activities PU-Public
