Today as I sit to write the message for the brochure of year 2015, I don’t have anything else in mind but Dr. Abdul Kalam as he left his earthly abode last evening for his eternal journey. Therefore, I would like to dedicate this years message to the great man and incomparable teacher. He was a great teacher above everything else and dedicated a major part of his life in teaching people of all ages. We are fortunate as Dr. Kalam visited ITM Universe for a national conference when he was The President of India and has left an ever-lasting impression on the minds and hearts of entire ITM Family. He always said that the youth has great possibility and capability to reach to never before achieved heights in every field, and as teachers we only have to direct and motivate them. As students you all must realize the potential within you and keep on working hard to do better and better everyday. He proved that its not money, resources or facilities which are important in reaching to never achieved echelons in any field but more important is the positive attitude, discipline and hard work. A student must understand the importance of positive attitude, discipline and hard work as without these, any number of resources can not help them succeed. Students must know the code of conduct otherwise they lose direction and focus. Dr. Kalam always stressed on these points whenever he addressed students. We announced national level scholarship named after Dr. Kalam to foster innovation amongst students. It will be provided to students for the best project at school level and university level. It is a small contribution in taking forward the mission of the Missile man to help students to do innovative things. It is a tribute from ITM Gwalior family to the man who will never die in hearts of all Indians specially of the students and teachers. I hope that the students will follow the great teaching of the legend and make use of all the resources and facilities with a positive attitude, discipline and work hard to realize their dreams.

This year has been a very successful year as we have witnessed huge number of students getting on campus dream jobs. This year first batch of Engineering graduated and I am happy to share that almost all big MNC’s, which recruits fresh graduates, visited us for campus placement activity. All the companies were quite happy with the performance of our students and appreciated the training efforts of the university. We are hopeful of welcoming them for the future batches also.

We are expecting much bigger and more reputed brands in future and hence students have to work much harder to convert those opportunities into success. I would like to advice all dear students to do not wait for the final year to come to start the preparations but to start the preparations for the future endeavors from day one.

One more good activity started in university as Idea Pad. Idea Pad is the incubator of the university, which provides required guidance and facility to young budding entrepreneurs. Idea Pad received 24 ideas out of which 14 could be converted into prototypes and I am happy to inform that 4 prototypes became products. These 4 companies are today operating from campus incubator and have turnover of 30 to 60 lacs in last six months. One of the prototype which is on the verge of registered as company is of a student from first year. I am sure students of ITM University will start many more companies in future and will be job providers rather than job seekers. We are committed to all such students who dream big and work hard to realize the dreams.

Life at GwaliorGwalior is a historical city in the heart of India, situated in the State of Madhya Pradesh. The Ancient Indian Classical School of Music “Dhrupad” was fine tuned here under Tomar dynasty and spread to various parts of India to acquire local flavours. It is also known as “The City of Music”. The legendary musician Tansen also belonged to Gwalior and became one of the nine jewels of Emperor Akbar’s Court. Tansen innovated many complex and beautiful ‘Ragas’.

The city has perhaps the richest musical tradition among all the cities in this great country starting from Tansen, Baijubabra, Hassukhan, Haddukhan, Krishnarao Pandit, Bala Saheb Puchhwale, Chote Bahyya Puchhwale, Bande Ali Khan, Shankar Rao Pandit and home to living legends like Malini Rajurkar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, the list is endless.

ITM University carries forward the tradition and is applauded for its efforts to preserve and promote the Indian Classical Music. It holds a music festival annually, which has gained popularity in the entire country. Gwalior has beautiful large fort palace built during Tomar dynasty who were connoisseurs of Art & Music. Exquisite stone works can still be found here inspite of immoral plundering by vested interests. Agra, the city of Taj- masterpieces of world heritage, is 110 Kms from Gwalior. Khajuraho group of temples depicting all facets of life is 6 hours journey by road. Mitawali & Padavali has a group of 108 ruins of temples and is 20 Kms from Gwalior. Orchha is 100 Kms from Gwalior and is a treat for weekend trips as the village still carries old time feel with palaces, temples, cenotaphs and ruins along the banks of Betwa River.

Modern Gwalior is new educational hub and bustling city with a population of over 1.6 million. It is centrally located 317 Kms from Delhi and 400 Kms from Bhopal. It is well connected with Delhi, Bhopal, Indore, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad by trains, road and by air from New Delhi and Jabalpur.

ITM University itself has visitors from all over the regions to see its vast collection of sculptures and paintings as well its most applauded Amphitheater, which is a hub of cultural activities.

Industrial history of the Gwalior dates back to later part of 19th Century when Birlas established their Textile business. The well known Grasim & Gwalior suiting brands were born in this city. Gwalior has kept pace with time making it emerge as a vibrant city of Madhya Pradesh. The City has attracted major corporate houses like Cadbury, Kodak, SRF, J.K. Industries, Crompton Greaves, Flex Chemical and Atlas Cycle Company.

Happy & Happening CampusAlong with the regular high quality academic activities in the campus of ITM University, the city of Gwalior waits for the annual calendar of Cultural & Musical activities in ITM Universe Campus where plethora of world class events take place on regular intervals making students very happy and proud of being an ITMite. A very distinct emotion & spirit of an ITMite develops in every student. This spirit never dampens and converts every event into a not only high voltage, high energy congregation, but as a very disciplined group which should aptly be called audience or participants and never a crowd. ‘NAAD’, the amphi theater where mostly the program are organised, witnesses youth energy enjoying every moment.

Each day becomes unique. Something or other keeps happening whether it is a group of international artists sculpting huge stones or painters working on their canvases or serious academic activities, seminars etc. One never finds any art object being vandalized in ITM. The respect for Heritage & Arts develops naturally within the students.

Indian Classical Music concerts by world renowned musicians for continuous three days in the month of March every year see music lovers of the region thronging to ITM Campus. Rock shows by various groups are specially awaited by the students and the Rock groups are always happy and keen to perform here again.

Spic-macay chapter is active in ITM and brings top-notch classical dancers, vocalists & instrumentalists to perform and give lec-dems.

Teacher’s day and Friendship day are celebrated with great fervour and enthusiam. Though a tight academic schedule keeps the students on toes but also prepares them for the challenges of future & to handle pressures from the beginning. Every ITMite bursts into emotions while leaving the campus as they prepare to join their profession after completing their degree courses.

You will see happy youth around the campus, enjoying their learning process.

ITM has a very unique & distinctive character of its campus and perceived by all as hub of creative expressions in special areas of paintings, sculptures, various classical & folk dance forms, Indian classical & popular music, western classical & rock music, world cinema, photography & theater. Students get to expose themselves with the best

of Indian and International Artists, observe their processes of creation, interact and not only admire the final outcome but take special care for its upkeep & maintenance.

In last few years hundreds of painters and sculptors have visited ITM Campus and participated in various creative camps, symposiums and workshops. This is how ITM Campus has become the largest collector of art in India among all Universities and Institutes. Every year international symposiums/camp of eminent sculptors are held at the campus and monumental sculptures in different material are created.

Wherever you look in open, under the trees, in atriums, walk ways, in water bodies, you will see works of wonderful Art. There has been constant request from various quarters to open the campus for tourists & visitors so that they can also admire the Art exhibited in the campus.

Coinciding with painters camp, performing artists give expression to their musical and dancing abilities and

interact with artistes of different disciplines which adds another dimension to the concept of Art Meet.

‘Ibaarat’ is also one of the prestigious programmes of ITMU where Urdu poets from all parts of the world come and enthrall the jampacked auditorium within the campus.

The city of Gwalior and ITM University – A Symbiosis“...the city boasts of a large number of educational institutions and ITM University is perhaps the largest among them. The sprawling campus invariably impresses any visitor. But to me more impressive is the fact that while this institution endeavors to impart world class education, it has also spent equal amount of effort, attention and care to preserve, propagate and advance further the rich musical traditions of Gwalior heritage.

I happened to attend three of the musical feasts that the institution organizes every year and briefest I can say the whole experience was ‘sheer bliss’. The NAAD amphitheater surrounded by small hillocks, designed and set among the natural surroundings and fitted with high quality light and sound equipments, perhaps is the right place for any competent musician to perform and exhibit his talent.

During the festivals that I attended from 2007 till 2010. I got, each time in three days the best of the Indian music that I could dream of. What it did not contain? The best of the singers Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Khan Dagar, Pandit Ajay Pohankar, Pandit Chhannu Lal Mishra, Girija Devi, Ustaad Rashid Khan, Pt. Rajan & Sajan Mishra to name few. The best of the instrumentalists Ronu Mujumdar, Pandit D K Datar, Ustad Sultan Khan, Ustad Shujat Hussain Khan, Niladri Kumar, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma & Kala Ramnath where could I get all of them at one place, against no expenses and with all the facilities. The scene when it is dark all around open sky above, green around and the illuminated dias sends you back on the time machine 100 years or more. It really feels that you are back to the ancient times when music and life were synonymous.

This made me have a glimpse into the wisdom, foresight and concern of the people behind this institution. It is not sufficient to train in science, engineering, management and the like, to make a complete human being that very essential input of art, culture, heritage is so much necessary. I wish other educational institutions could copy it...” (writes Dr. Arvind Dubey a music lover of Gwalior).

Art at ITMUFor more than ten years. ITMU has been regularly organising painter’s camps, month long international sculptor’s symposiums, classical concerts. music fests, dance and poetry events, literary meets, and the list remains never ending. This has created a huge aesthetic and literary asset, which is unique in the whole country, and perhaps in the continent. We have also become the largest collector of fine arts among any university/Institute of individuals in India. Every ITM student takes pride in this unique and evolving heritage of the University. Barring a few, all modern and contemporary indian artists have contributed to our endeavoursr through their creative expressions. The campus sees the best of paintings, sculptures, and motifs, apart from the musings of the best poets and musicians.

Consequently, a sense of ownership and a fine sensibility has developed in students, who have not only learnt to admire these gifts of art, but to inculcate a protective fervour, making sure no one vandalises it. The names of the creative artists who have visited the university would form a never ending list. The campus is as good as an art exhibition, as the best of art is permanently exhibited here.

Community Engagement By volunteering you are not just helping others. You’ll gain exposure to experiences and learn skills that will stand you and help you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs or participating in interviews. There are a huge number of different projects to get involved with that help make a meaningful and beneficial contribution to people in the local community either through the University or through student-organised projects. Such initiatives enable you to gain a greater understanding of what it means to be a responsible global citizen, through hands-on programmes and community activities. In the process you will discover the challenges facing society in the 21st century, and approaches needed to address them.

Here you can also undertake volunteer work, giving back to society and developing the kinds of skills and experiences that employers seek.

53

Cairney (2000) argues that Universities which understand this ‘community engagement’ role will see judgement of their success not simply in terms of the internationally accepted quality of their teaching and research, but also in terms of their role in a region’s social, economic, and cultural development.Cairney, Trevor H. (2000). The role of universities in developing regional knowledge workers. Unpublished paper.

CareersIn order to create students with necessary skils, knowledge and attitude needed by the stake holders companies of international repute from relevant fields were identified based on quality benchmarks and were assigned the important task of Training and Augmentation.

The University has introduced a rare model of involving the students in execution of trainning and placement programme. This adds immensely to the managerial and professional skills development of students and transparency in the complete process. It is worth mentioning here that all the augmentation programmes result in certificatation by the respective companies carrying grades earned by students on the basis of performance exhibited by a student. This is the first of its kind to tie-up with some of the world’s leading players like Rockwell Automation which has only one tie-up with any educational (Private as well as Govt.) entity i.e. ITM University Gwalior.

TAP Cell has been established with clear objective of providing assistance to students in following activities:• Placement assistance• Training: TAP Cell is responsible for arranging training

programmes with the help of industries on the skill sets required to succeed in the placement interviews. After detailed discussion with project coordinators of different

departments, professionals from industries and senior academicians, following areas are short listed for the training:

• Communication Skills• Analytical Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Basic

Mathematics• Personality Development• Workshops on topics relevant to branch as per

requirement of Industry• Practice Sessions

As a follow up action, the following activities are also conducted:• Mock Test (online as well as manual) to test the

analytical aptitude and logical reasoning etc• Mock group discussion• Mock Personal interview• Guidance for last minute preparation for the expected

companies, so as to meet the requirement of the industry/ company/ organization

TAP Cell regularly invites feedback from industry, academics & research organizations to improve upon the programme. The outcome of all these efforts is not just the employability of the student but a holistic growth & development which converts them into positive, productive professional who can be a part of Nation building.

Corporate CommentsThe University acknowledges the central role and responsibility of higher education and research as drivers of innovation, talent, entrepreneurship and, ultimately, economic development; providing private and public sector leaders across disciplines with a platform for dialogue and initiatives. Through regular contact and collaboration with a growing network of leaders from different sectors we explore long-term collaboration and institutional partnerships on issues and projects of mutual interest. The University offers an unparalleled exposure to people, topics and platforms throughout the year from business, government, society and academia.

We are constantly in search of the world’s best experts on diverse topics and invite them to present and participate in conference, seminars, panel discussions and others to become members of Advisory Council of the University, and advise and steer projects and initiatives of the University where they have a unique expertise. Most of the opportunities provide students, as far as possible, with an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, discuss issues and listen to some fascinating speakers and leaders from all sectors in a highly interactive setting and with significant feedback.

AgricultureAgriculture is the main source of livelihood for over 80% of the rural people in India. Although it employs about 52% of the labour force, it contributes to only 14.5% of GDP and 10.23% of all exports. Rural women, who constitute 30% of the agricultural work force, are amongst the least paid workers. Any effort of poverty reduction and economic development must address the problem being faced by the agricultural sector and turn the challenges into economic opportunities for the poor.

Agriculture has important role in driving national economy as 55% population is still dependent on Agriculture as it provides raw materials to many industries. With the opening of world economy, our farmers have to be globally competitive in terms of quality and cost of agricultural produce.

achievement unparallel in the history of world agriculture. Similar enhancement in production of milk, fish, oilseeds and fruit & vegetables has also been observed. White, Blue, Yellow and Golden Revolution respectively have been responsible for bringing prosperity in the farming community. The cradle of this success beside government policies and high receptivity of the farming community has been the establishment of institutions of higher agriculture education. These institutions developed new breed of skilled human resources who were instrumental in not only generating new technologies but also in their assessment, refinement and dissemination to the farming community.

The School of Agriculture of ITM University Gwalior was started during the year 2013, looking to the ample scope of agricultural development in Madhya Pradesh. Initially undergraduate (B.Sc. lane connecting the North to the South of India. Main tracks of Indian Railways to Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Indore, Pune etc. run along this part of highway. Sithouli Railway Station is just opposite the campus where few trains do stop benefiting the students, staff & commuters. The concept behind ITM GOI building is eco and environment friendly using low energy consuming materials. The entire blocks of buildings are so strategically placed that there is never a need of artificial light during day time and still remain cool during summers.Greenery is everywhere, even the corridors in second floor have planters with falling foliages of cheerful bright green colours. All class rooms are air cooled. Atriums in each block give a sense of space, openness & healthy plants add to the beauty of space within the buildings.

Rain water harvesting scheme has been implemented with check dams and soak ponds with lilies & ducks floating around. After over a decade the campus has become green, plants have grown higher and pleasantness of foliages all around gives the right ambience for innovative & creative ideas. Water bodies & fountains add to the beauty of the campus.

With academic / administrative / residential / recreational areas having been developed, Sport grounds & courts are being developed further. A state of art composite sports complex is going to be our latest addition in ITM GOI campus in the year 2009-10.

An amphi-theater with seating capacity of more than 3000 persons is being used for cultural and co-curricular activities of the Institutes. 200 bedded Boys’ hostel has been commissioned with a block of mess & dining of approx. 26,000 sq. feet with semi-mechanised system of hygienic cooking, having enough space for dining & mess facility for 600 persons at a time. Such a vast and modernised space is rarely available in any part of the State.

A good number of family members of ITM GOI staff are residing in exclusive residential flats situated between hostel buildings and a newly renovated guest house is operational for the institute’s guest.

International Painter’s and Sculptor’s symposiums are organised by ITM GOI on regular basis and have resulted in world class monumental sculptures and paintings which are now integral part of the campus making it uniquely different institution not only in India but anywhere else in the world.

ITM Global School, Gwalior

Global Learning The schools learning philosophy is based on global learning which is achieved through a globally acceptable curricula that relates to people’s place within the wider world, their relationships with others, their histories, their present and future. Global learning connects the local to the global and prepares people to become globally successful citizens.

The Curriculum and learning activities revolves around key concepts of the global dimension i.e. knowledge, skills, values, culture, diversity, sustainable development & human rights.

We believe that the outcome of the global curriculum and activities will enable students to challenge stereotypes, think objectively and to apply the knowledge in practical world.

The teaching-learning delivery process is a fusion & integration of traditional and modern approaches (like activity based & PYP). The curriculum & overall approach of delivery is prepared by a team of very experienced & well qualified academicians.

The education is child centric and learning offered is both interactive and experimental. The pedagogy is diverse mix of most recent innovations in education and is based on the latest findings in tutoring research.

The teacher acts as a facilitator and guide. We believe that learning outside the classroom is as important as inside the classroom. We have made it an integral element of long term curriculum planning and closely linked with classroom activities. The school conducts trips as a part of regular curriculum to enable students to enhance their learning with real life experiences. School make every effort possible to ensure that the students explore the world around them to see the things they have learnt in the classroom come live.

Teacher’s role – mentor & friendTo inspire - to generate excitement and curiosity for learning. In the world of Information Highway where knowledge is a click away, the teacher’s role has changed from a purveyor to a mentor, a friend, & a facilitator who guides the students

126

in coping with the information & knowledge coming their way.

The teacher’s role is to design learning experiences & newer methods that help students understanding concepts and own the knowledge they construct.

The teachers of ITM Global School Gwalior are trained to share a relationship of love and trust with the children in their care. Rewards are woven into the fabric of this relationship so that when either praise or censure is exercised, the student is conscious that it is fully deserved. Over a period of time, the pupil becomes his/her own monitor and explicit discipline becomes less and less necessary and self appraisal by student becomes objective.

Teachers are aware that each child learn in different way and they plan the learning accordingly taking into account those differences and using a range of teaching strategies.

Every month all our teachers, both curricular and non-curricular will sit together to review progress of each child’s targets. These findings, along with the students’ own self-assessment is shared with the parents. Thus, while introducing hi-tech into the learning process, our teachers are able to retain their personal rapport with every child.

Teachers are supposed to constantly reinventing themselves keeping abreast with the winds of changes blowing across the world which includes traveling overseas on exchange programmes. To add to their efforts, we undertake rigorous and regular Teacher Training Programmes, under some of the best educational brains of the country.

Artsmusic, drama, dance, crafts etc.ITM Global School Gwalior will see top-notch artists, musicians, dancers, ambassadors, industrialists etc. to mingle and interact with students & inspire them.

Fine Arts give students countless opportunities to discover and define themselves through: rehearsing for a play, choreographing a dance, preparing stage sets, creating a painting, sculpture or even a video of a memorable event. Our Arts Centre provides opportunities for these skills and integrates them into mainstream learning.

The Arts with their propensity to develop creativity envisages linkages with disciplines like History, Geography, Languages, Sciences and help enhancing our understanding of them.

Music is compulsory in the first seven years of the pupil’s life, after which, it is offered as an optional subject. The school will be having its own orchestra and its own junior and senior choir. All children will take part in group singing which includes regional songs, inter-faith prayers and chanting of spiritual hymns. Both Indian and Western classical music lessons would be offered as part of the co-curriculam.

Indian and Western classical music is played in the foyer every morning to encourage students to develop an ear for music. The morning assembly begins with prayers followed by an invocation song. Our music teachers make it a point to teach songs from different parts of the country and also some international favourites, which are sung during festivals and anniversaries. A special room has been created for Western Music and children play a variety of stringed and percussion instruments.

Each time a poet, artist, dancer or a musician will come in ITM University for their performances, he/she will make a point to visit ITM Global School to conduct a special workshop for the best exposure of fine sensibilities.
